Chapter 1137 - 1137: Empire and Dynasty
“Your Imperial Majesty!” An old man entered the room and bent one knee while raising a scroll with both hands. “Please take a look at this. It’s everything we know about the fear coming from the northwest.”
“Hmm…” The minister relayed it to the emperor.
The report couldn’t help but cause the emperor to furrow his eyebrows.
“You’re saying there’s an entity stronger than any aliens we have fought so far?”
“Yes, Your Majesty. We can only assume there’s a chance that an alien stronger than an ordinary alpha class alien is hiding there. However, we haven’t ventured to that place yet, so there might be land… there might not be anything. After all, we only know the island west of our continent.”
If Nathan were here, he would have been shocked by how casually the old man mentioned an ‘alpha class’ alien. It wasn’t because the alpha class alien was extremely powerful, but because it had the same classification.
In fact, it wouldn’t be weird if Nathan started to wonder whether the aliens were actually the ones spreading their own classes to the entire world.
The emperor paused for a moment before asking, “What do you think, Ministers?”
A man came forth and replied politely, “I believe we have to guard our coast, Your Majesty. Dynasty in the east, Empire in the west. Because the source is located northwest, there’s a high chance the alien will come to this place.
“An alien of that magnitude can decimate us if we don’t prepare carefully.”
“Are you trying to say we’re doomed?”
“Of course not. I just believe that preparing against the aliens will allow us to win the war without suffering a massive loss.”
“That’s the problem. What if we prepare and the alien doesn’t come? Our empire is already in a bad state due to the ash above our heads. A third of our entire population has died. If we prepare against this alien and it ends up as a waste, it will definitely cause a massive problem.”
“It can’t be helped. If we don’t prepare for the alien attacks, I’m expecting half of the empire to be destroyed. I believe I don’t have to explain what the dynasty will do during that time.”
“Like I said, it’s impossible. Mobilizing that amount of manpower is already impossible. A lot of our cities have been destroyed due to the famine. At this rate, there won’t be anything to eat.”
The ministers were arguing back and forth. Due to the volcanic eruption, their situation had been a mess.
Without enough food, there was nothing they could do. They had tried destroying the ash cloud, but the ash cloud continued to regenerate to no end.
They barely managed to solve their food supply by cooperating with powerful individuals to open up the spot to grow food. There was also an increasing number of aliens, causing their territory to shrink significantly.
Yet, these ministers could only argue with each other without providing any long-lasting solution.
The emperor let out a long sigh before raising his voice. “Enough! We don’t have enough people or resources to protect our coast.
“However, we can’t let such a threat remain unchecked. I will authorize Marquis Lectival to expand his territory on the sea and protect the empire.”
“What?!”
“Your Imperial Majesty. I hope you can reconsider that decision.”
“That’s right. If Marquis Lectival seizes more water, we won’t be able to get any fish to eat.”
“Your Imperial Majesty. Please reconsider.”
“Shut up!” The emperor stood up. “If you want the same thing, volunteer to guard the sea.”
The ministers were stunned. Surprisingly, some people suddenly raised their hands.
“Your Imperial Majesty. Allow me to assume this responsibility.”
“I have protected the empire, and I shall protect the empire.”
More and more nobles were raising their hands. All of them were nobles whose territory was next to the sea. If other nobles were allowed to get their fish, they would definitely suffer a huge blow.
Those nobles were greedy, so they wanted to take what others had. But because they were greedy, the emperor utilized their own greed to make all of them volunteer.
This way, the emperor could make preparations against the threat from the sea without any risk.
All those people had no choice but to do it. Each noble had to bear the cost.
The emperor was smiling inwardly, but the situation didn’t change. If more people died because of the sea, their empire would definitely grow weaker.
…
In the east, the dynasty had an emperor, but unlike the west, this dynasty had one peculiar emperor.
Next to the emperor stood a woman wearing a blindfold. Despite having perfect vision, the woman covered her eyes as if she couldn’t open her perfect eyes the whole time.
“Your Majesty. I can see our opportunities coming from the northwest. If we can get this opportunity, we might be able to save the dynasty.”
“Really?” The emperor of the east raised his eyebrows. “Even with the ability to see the future, how are we supposed to seize the opportunity from the empire? We both have been weakened by the ash cloud.”
“While it’s true that we are in a dire situation, we can’t let this opportunity go. From this opportunity, I can briefly see our people eating full again even when the sky is still dark.”
“!!!” The emperor and the ministers were shocked by that statement.
“Are you sure?”
“Yes.”
“Who is the most qualified to seize that opportunity?”
“I’m not entirely sure. All I can see are two faint figures. The first one is a male with a big build and appears dignified, as if he has upheld our dynasty’s dignity since his birth. He has brown hair and sharp black eyes. The second one is a female. She has a graceful appearance and seems to like Lily. She has long black hair and green emerald eyes. Both appear to be the same age, 18-22 years old.”
Because she had never seen the world due to the blindfold, she could only describe the person in her vision but not recognize them.
“The first person… It might be the fourth prince, Rucavel Oltis-Oldo Erwih. Who is the second one?” The emperor squinted his eyes, recalling any princesses who had that kind of character.
Surprisingly, one person raised his hand. “Your Imperial Majesty. That might be… my second daughter, Amelia Lindwurm.”
“What? That useless daughter of yours?!”
“Impossible.”
“That’s enough. I don’t care whether she is useless or not. As long as she can seize the opportunity, I will use her.” The emperor stood up, declaring his decision. “My love. Do you know what kind of opportunity we’re going to seize?”
“That is… I can’t see… I see nothing… This is…ugh!”
“My love…”
“Empress!”
The people panicked, including the emperor. Blood started to leak out from her eyes and blindfold as the empress screamed in pain.
“Aaahhhh!”
“What happened?”
“Help!”
“Call the Grand Physician!”
The empress continued to scream for a minute before she passed out.
