Chapter 1098: Route
Chapter 1098: Route
The people slightly adjusted their balance due to the drag caused by the acceleration. They could finally see the bouncing motion due to the wave. Fortunately, Kun was reducing the shakiness with his massive body.
Once the acceleration stopped and Kun maintained their velocity, the ship calmed down. Evelyn checked the front part and confirmed everything worked perfectly.
“Hahahaha. So, we’re finally departing. Since we’re being dragged, the steering wheel is not useful yet. But please do tell me when you’re tired, Great Whale! We’ll open the sail and let you rest.”
Nathan just gave a thumbs up to relay his message to Neyeid since he was already climbing up to hold the steering wheel.
Once everything had been set up nicely, Nathan regrouped with the rest. Mae followed him because she only needed to make sure they didn’t leave their path.
“Let me brief you regarding our route again.” Nathan glanced at Mae.
It was for Melissa, but the others also came to them.
Mae then formed an illusion of a globe. She added four huge islands and two poles with white colors.
“This is everything I’ve got from our informant.” Mae pointed at one land. “This is our location right now, the land they call Gratzel.
“Meanwhile, our destination is this one.” Mae continued to the land that wasn’t exactly on the opposite side of the globe, but it had a similar latitude. “Normally, we will go through this route. And I’m pretty sure they came to this continent through this route.”
Mae guided her finger horizontally, following the latitude line. “The biggest reason is because of the North Pole. You might not know this, but our world revolves around the sun. Due to the angle of the spin, there’s not enough solar energy coming to the North Pole.
“As a result, a large formation of ice forms on the North Pole, creating a land that might be as massive as our continent or even bigger.
“Either way, that’s not the point. Our current destination is not Erendtall. Instead, we will be traveling to the North Pole instead.”
“North Pole? Can I ask why?” Melissa raised her hand politely. Since she had abruptly come here, she didn’t dare to demand a lot of things from others.
Evelyn chose to answer this question. “This is what we have been planning to do. You can say it’s another objective of this sea expedition. Bella will tell you the rest of the story, but at the North Pole, we suspect there’s a hidden alien whose strength goes beyond the current classification system.”
“Do you mean the two hidden classifications are true?” Melissa gasped. “I thought it was just a legend.”
Evelyn nodded. “Yes. More importantly, this alien is intelligent. In other words, we could have a conversation with this alien. And that’s what we’re planning to do first. Ask Bella for the rest of the story.
“We’re planning on asking this alien a lot of things. You should have felt the increasing number of aliens meant a bad thing for humans. This alien might be the key to learning the current situation and allowing humanity to figure out what they should do next.”
“I understand.” Melissa nodded. She was curious about the alien, but she could learn about it later instead of disturbing the briefing.
Mae continued, “Whether we find the alien or not, we will continue from this place all the way to Erendtall. There’s another reason why going to the North Pole is actually much more favorable for us.
“Although I have no doubt about my skill, there’s always a margin of error. I have created Gratzel and Erendtall according to the world map recognized in their respective continents.
“Gratzel is a long continent, going all the way to the south. Since the south has been taken over by the aliens, there’s no contact there. However, if we travel from Gratzel by following the latitude line, we will have a lot of surface area to find Gratzel.
“On the other hand, Erendtall is a wide one. If we follow the normal way, we have a huge margin of error. However, if we come from the North Pole, there will be a bigger surface area that we can find, eliminating that margin of error.
“Hence, I advised us to go to the North Pole first before Erendtall. Considering the alien’s strength, there’s also a chance it will be hostile to us, which might result in the expedition’s failure.
“Even so, this is the route with the highest chance of success.”
Mae finished her explanation. The plan was reasonable after seeing the map. Since their planet was round, it was no wonder the North Pole was their first destination.
Still, this was the first time Melissa had heard the world is round.
“We don’t know the exact details, but we’re expected to reach the North Pole within 7-10 days with our current speed. Then, we will need another week to reach Erendtall from the North Pole.
“During that time, the weather can be rough, and we also have to conserve our stamina. After all, more and more aliens will definitely come for us,” explained Nathan before pointing at Melissa. “Since you are here as well, we are expecting you to be on guard duty as well.
“According to Kun’s report, it looks like there are a lot of weak aliens coming at us right now. But Kun is able to repel them for the time being. So, the guard duty will start once this briefing is over. I want Kun to conserve his stamina by focusing only on pulling the ship.”
“Of course. I will do my best.”
Evelyn finally stepped forward and assigned everyone’s roles. “For guard duty, we will go in pairs. Revon, you will take Christopher with you. Meanwhile, Neyeid will go with Sonia. Since you are new here, Bella will go with you, Melissa.
“Nathan has to maintain his familiars for the ship. He’s also the brain of this ship. On the other hand, Vivian’s role is to ensure the ship is working in perfect condition. Since both of them have a heavy task, I will be on guard duty with them to lessen their burden.
“Each of us will take six hours respectively. The rest who aren’t on guard duty will be helping with other things.”
“Understood.” They acknowledged their partners. They weren’t too familiar with underwater battle, so this journey might prove to be more difficult than they originally expected.
