Chapter 1095: Can You Please Not Go?
Chapter 1095: Can You Please Not Go?
“Noelle…” Nathan felt something was off with Noelle. Normally, Noelle’s eyes were unwavering, but what he could see was confusion. This confusion didn’t originate on her path, but it was questioning her own self.
Noelle paused for a moment before saying with a shaking voice. “Can I… borrow your time… for a moment?”
Nathan nodded. “Sure. Where do you want to go? Right now, Selena and the others are in my house.”
“Somewhere alone…”
“In that case, why don’t we talk at your house? Flora is sleeping in my house, so there should be no one there.”
Noelle could only nod her head.
Although he didn’t know what was going on, he was sure something had happened during the time Noelle was gone. At first, he didn’t think much about it, thinking Noelle was probably trying to train or something, but it looked like something much more important had happened.
Once they reached her house, Noelle sat down awkwardly, looking down as if she couldn’t look Nathan in the eye.
Nathan observed her reaction before choosing to press her. “Do you have something to say to me?”
Noelle’s body tensed up. She was looking at her hands that gradually turned into fists. “I… I’m sorry.”
“Sorry?” Why would Noelle apologize all of a sudden? She hadn’t done anything wrong from his perspective. “Why apologize when you haven’t done anything wrong?”
“No.” Noelle shook her head. Although a bit hesitant, she stood up and walked to Nathan.
Nathan tilted his body to face Noelle, wondering what she was going to do.
To his surprise, Noelle actually sat on top of him and just wrapped her arms around his neck.
“!!!” Nathan widened his eyes in shock. “Noelle?”
Nathan couldn’t help but wonder if Noelle had just apologized for this.
“Can you please… not go?”
“!!!” Nathan was surprised. He expected someone would ask him to stay, but he thought it would be Sera or Flora. Noelle was actually the last person who would ask him such a thing.
Noelle closed her eyes for a moment.
…
A few days ago.
“Grandfather. May I ask you something?”
Even Duke Sullivan was confused by Noelle’s request. Normally, Noelle was independent enough to find the answer herself. Or he would be the one pushing a certain matter to her.
This was the first time she had come for a consultation. Hence, he straightened his back and nodded with a solemn face. “Sure. Ask me anything.”
“I don’t know what I’ve been doing. For the last two weeks, I have been uneasy. At first, I thought that everything would be fine. Nathan will be away for some time, but he will come back eventually.
“It’s just… I don’t have a good feeling about this. I feel like once he’s gone, he will be gone forever.
“That’s why I’ve felt like my heart keeps tightening for the past two weeks. Even when talking right now…
“I have asked Flora and the others, but they don’t have such a feeling.”
Sullivan crossed his arms, pondering her matter carefully. After one minute, he asked a question. “Noelle. Are you having fun with him?”
“I feel at peace.”
Sullivan smiled. “I once had the same experience.”
“You had?”
“Yeah. Unlike you, I can’t reverse it.” Duke Sullivan stood up while walking toward the window, opening it to get some air. “That was after I lost your grandmother. I was someone who had been fixated with swords my entire life, but your grandmother was the only person who managed to add one more fixation in my life.
“I, too, felt at peace whenever I was with your grandmother. All the hardship I faced, all the aliens I killed, all the blood smearing on my body… it felt worth it when I returned. Do you know why?”
He looked outside with a sad smile. His eyes were glazing as though he were about to cry. “Because she was there.”
Noelle could feel that they were talking about the same feeling.
“However!” Sullivan raised his voice, startling Noelle. His voice was full of regret and anger. “I took her existence for granted, thinking that she would be by my side.”
But that wasn’t what had happened. Noelle had heard that her grandmother had passed away from illness due to her weak constitution two years after she was born.
“The moment I lost her, my world crumbled. It felt like time had stopped, the world had lost its color, and even all the strength in my body had seeped away.
“I cherished the time I had with her, but I never treasured it. And I regret it the whole time. Once you lose something, you will find how important it is.
“Right now, you are about to lose it. What kind of person is he? I think you know it well.”
Noelle looked down, recounting all her experiences with Nathan. Even a bystander could see how blessed Nathan was with women. Selena and the others had officially become his women. At the same time, there were also other women outside their group.
Even so, Nathan also had his own limits. Eventually, he would reach that limit. If she returned, Nathan would be there. If she got confused, Nathan would lend her a helping hand.
What if Nathan wasn’t there anymore? It was so obvious that she never questioned it herself.
Even Selena had set up a limit. What if Nathan reached that limit before she was able to make a choice? What if she was hesitant because she took his existence for granted?
“I don’t think I need to tell you the answer. After all, your heart already gives you the answer, right?”
“!!!” Noelle widened her eyes in shock.
“You have been dedicating your entire life to the sword, so this kind of thing might feel unfamiliar to you. At the same time, I’m not such a romantic person that I can tell you about it. Instead, how about I tell you a story? A story of me and your grandmother…” Sullivan smiled.
…
Noelle blinked her eyes as though she were recounting everything. Tears unknowingly streamed down her cheeks. Her words turned into a plea. “Can you not go? Please… don’t leave me.”
