Chapter 688 Annoying Emotions
‘Sure enough, smart people are smart,’ Kyle thought after he returned to his home gym. ‘A smart guy would ask an even smarter guy for their opinion, and I did just that.’
‘The guy is in the Wisdom Fire Realm, and he’s also not talented with the Laws of Center and Mind. He basically went through the same thing as I did. From what he said, he joined the Array of Stars as a 12/13 Primal. Although he said 12/12, but who cares?’
Kyle finally had a plan.
The next moment, he took out the weird helmet.
Luckily, there was a small chip in the helmet that contained the entire manual.
Kyle just needed to use any kind of Communicator or computer to show the contents of the manual.
After reading through the manual, Kyle’s brows furrowed.
‘That sounds easy,’ he thought.
Then, he put the helmet on and put a bunch of different wires on different parts of his body.
Finally, he used his Energy on the helmet.
The helmet activated, and Kyle felt something weird.
He got the weirdest mix of nonsensical emotions.
Happiness, sadness, envy, rage, annoyance, boredom, hope, despair.
It was just absolutely chaotic, and they all kind of just canceled each other out.
It was a bit like suffering from tinnitus.
Most of the time, one didn’t hear it, but as soon as one was reminded of it, it was hard to ignore.
The emotions were all just there, but it was easy to lose track of them. Yet, as soon as one focused on one of them, it almost felt overwhelming.
Based on what the manual had said, the helmet was translating the scattered Energy in one’s Center into emotions.
In order to comprehend the Law of Center, one needed to “fix” their Center.
A Center gathered Energy quite chaotically and then just stored it.
However, the process was very much filled with inefficiencies and unnecessary steps.
It was like a regular human body from Earth. Blood vessels went through the whole body, but they sometimes went through weird places.
If plumbers laid pipes like that, they would lose their jobs in a snap.
The different bits of Energy in the Center often interfered with each other, which would weaken them.
However, the interactions were spread all across the Center, which was why everything was still stable.
People talented with the mind often noticed that their Energy output didn’t quite fit the numbers. Slowly, over time, they would try to keep the Center as “clean” as possible, and eventually, they would get their Center to work with almost perfect efficiency.
That was when they would unlock the Law of Center.
Quite often, this came as a surprise to them.
This was just something they did on the side during their daily business. It just felt like regular maintenance.
Even more, these people often believed that everyone did that. After all, they were annoyed by all these little inefficiencies, and they assumed that others would also be annoyed by that.
Kyle had never noticed.
He had been busy looking at the world around him.
Why should he look inside himself? Everything worked fine! Nothing was broken.
After feeling the different emotions for a while, Kyle noticed something.
He got quite annoyed by how the emotions interfered with each other.
It was like he was feeling stuff he wasn’t supposed to feel.
Subconsciously, he started to resist the distortion.
Because of that, the “direction” from where the feelings came changed.
‘According to the manual, I have to sort everything out,’ he thought. ‘If all the emotions are neatly arranged, my Center should be fixed. At least, the Energy that’s currently in it.’
Kyle focused on fixing the emotions, and after a couple of hours, he got all of them neatly arranged.
There was no more interference from other emotions.
Then, he shoved almost all the Energy in his Center into the helmet, and a stream of Neutral Energy left the helmet.
The emotions vanished for just a moment before they quickly returned from all directions.
Kyle took special note of where they came from while his Center refilled.
When it was full again, he cleaned everything again.
And again.
And again.
After a couple of weeks, everything almost became automatic.
However, at the same time, Kyle’s focus changed.
He was no longer focusing on his helmet or the emotions, but on his Center.
Naturally, Kyle had been curious about the effect the helmet had on his Center and how the Energy inside of it moved when he moved the emotions.
After some more weeks, Kyle became annoyed, and he didn’t need the helmet to feel that emotion.
‘This is distracting!’ he thought as he pulled the helmet off his head.
By now, he was focused on his Center.
As he saw his Energy move around, he saw all the inefficiencies clearly.
In fact, they couldn’t be ignored anymore.
It was like Kyle had been listening to his favorite song for a long time until a guy came up to him and commented on the lyrics. “Why is he saying ‘tame fat’?”
“What? No! He’s saying ‘Take that’!”
By then, it was already too late.
He would always hear “tame fat” from now on.
The inefficiencies in his Center were unmissable, and he got annoyed whenever he saw them.
As Kyle looked at his Center, he did a bunch of calculations about how his Energy moved and how it entered his Center.
It was so messy!
His body had been crafted to beautiful perfection, but his Center was chaotic and horrible!
Kyle only focused on fixing the inefficiencies in his Center, and he was quickly making progress.
One had to remember that Kyle had managed to comprehend a Complex Level 3.5 Law as a Transcendent.
Comprehending something like that needed a lot of brain and dedication.
It was true that Kyle had a natural talent for his body and Soul, but he also only had a natural Affinity for Wind and Fire.
His Metal Affinity had been created artificially, and in the same way, Kyle’s talent for his mind had been created artificially.
Mostly thanks to Theodor.
Theodor was definitely a head-guy, not a gut-guy, and he had forced Kyle to think like him with his constant nagging and threats.
Kyle had also comprehended the Elemental Level One Laws by calculating them instead of just feeling what felt right.
On top of that, his job in the Stark Brotherhood had demanded a lot of planning, learning, and organization.
All of these early experiences had instilled a cerebral way of planning things in him.
It was just what he had learned to do.
As Kyle focused on fixing his Center, time passed.
20 years.
40 years.
67 years
80 years.
120 years.
He was getting close!
He was almost there!
There were just some tiny things here and there that still annoyed him.
130 years.
Almost!
BOOOOOM!
About 140 years.
That was how long it took.
But finally, he had done it!
Kyle had comprehended the Level Two Law of Center!
