Sorry, Our Captain Is a True All-Rounder

Chapter 94: No Human Survivors

Chapter 94: Chapter 94: No Human Survivors

Beisang watched her adjutant leave before retracting her gaze. She then activated her Star Ring to start on the day’s work.

The adjutant was quick. In just two hours, she had meticulously investigated everything they had done over the past few days.

Beisang took the report from her adjutant and read through it carefully, her brow furrowing slightly.

These people had been behaving themselves. Nothing was out of the ordinary.

’They’re diligent in their work, and the questions they asked today were probably just a result of the medical skills An Ni has been teaching them.’

Beisang closed the file and rubbed the bridge of her nose. "That will be all. You’re dismissed."

’Perhaps I was overthinking things. Were they really just asking out of concern?’

The adjutant nodded and then left the office.

The group, busy in the back of the kitchen, had no idea that Beisang had just had them thoroughly investigated.

"Sister Lin..." Feng He shuffled to her side, her voice soft. "I’m sorry. Please don’t be angry anymore."

Hearing Feng He’s words, the temper Lin Jingjing had just managed to suppress began to rise again. Seeing Feng He’s cautious expression, however, Lin Jingjing did her best to calm herself down.

Once she had, she said, "I’m not angry."

Feng He didn’t believe her for a second. ’She was scowling, a look that struck fear into all of them, yet she claimed she wasn’t angry? Her usual cheerful smile was nowhere to be seen.’

"Don’t do something so stupid again," Lin Jingjing warned. She then lifted a lid and, gripping the spatula with both hands, began to stir-fry vigorously, ensuring every piece of meat was seared on all sides.

"Or I really *will* get angry," Lin Jingjing added, her hands never ceasing their motion.

Hearing this, Feng He let out a sigh of relief. ’Sister Lin isn’t mad anymore. Thank goodness.’

The other three, who had been anxiously watching the exchange from the side, also breathed a sigh of relief. They had finally managed to placate her.

After they finished their work, the five of them carried their dinners to a table in the cafeteria.

Captain Li was already there waiting for them. As soon as the five of them sat down, he propped his head on his hand and stared at them.

Perhaps it was because Captain Li’s gaze was so intense and solemn, but all five of them reverted to their old habit of wolfing down their food.

It was as if they would be punished for eating too slowly.

Captain Li glanced at the time. From the moment they sat down to the moment they finished everything on their plates, less than ten minutes had passed.

They all chewed the food in their mouths, their eyes fixed on Captain Li.

"Are you done?" Captain Li asked. "If you are, let’s get down to business."

The group swallowed what was in their mouths and nodded.

Captain Li used his spiritual power to create a spherical barrier around them, isolating them from eavesdroppers and preventing surveillance systems from recording their conversation.

Captain Li looked at them, his face grim, and then spoke. "I know you wouldn’t have asked a question like that for no reason."

"So, what did you discover?"

Fearing they were worried about being overheard, he added an explanation, "We’re safe here. No one can hear our conversation."

No one spoke, but all eyes turned to Lin Jingjing.

Lin Jingjing looked back at Captain Li, her usual cheerful smile gone and replaced by a grave expression. "If I tell you, can you do anything about it?"

"Maybe I can," Captain Li retorted, raising an eyebrow. "Don’t underestimate me."

’Here in the First Corps, I might just be the head of the logistics department, but on the Capital Star, things are different.’

Lin Jingjing looked at the stubble-faced, muscular Captain Li, considered his words carefully, and finally said, "I’m still not entirely convinced."

"I’m afraid we’ll all meet a grisly end."

Captain Li understood their hesitation. After all, the more you know, the quicker you die.

They were keeping silent to protect themselves.

"You won’t," Captain Li assured her. "As long as I’m here, you won’t die."

Lin Jingjing nodded, then looked toward Feng He. "Feng He, you tell him."

Feng He froze when her name was called. But after having been on the receiving end of Lin Jingjing’s anger, she shook her head and refused, even though it was Lin Jingjing herself asking.

"I’m not saying it. Mo Xuan, you do it." She nudged Mo Xuan, who was sitting beside her.

After they passed the buck back and forth, Mo Xuan accepted the heavy burden.

He cleared his throat and began to recount their discoveries.

As he listened, Captain Li’s brow furrowed deeply. His index finger tapped rhythmically on the table, and his expression transformed from impassive to one of uncontainable fury.

"Truly audacious," Captain Li snarled. "To abduct so many people!"

"No wonder the missing persons data the interstellar police release online only ever goes up. So it’s these bastards, grabbing people for their experiments." The thought of so many young men and women, in the flower of their youth, dying horribly at the hands of those butchers made Captain Li want to tear them limb from limb.

"There’s someone behind this inhuman experiment," Lin Jingjing added. "Those people call him ’Young Master.’ The one conducting the experiments is called ’Dr. S,’ and everything they’re doing is for the sake of this Young Master’s so-called grand dream."

"What that dream is, specifically, we couldn’t find out."

"Right... and it’s very likely their people have already infiltrated the various corps..." Feng He added quietly, voicing her suspicion.

’That made things even more dangerous. I never would have imagined that the First Corps, which I’d always considered an iron fortress, had been infiltrated by an outside power.’

"I understand." Captain Li rubbed the bridge of his nose. ’I really shouldn’t have asked. Now I’m mixed up in this mess too.’

Shi Feng silently raised a hand. "I heard a team was sent in the same direction we were headed... Did... did they see the humans in the cages?"

In truth, Shi Feng had been wanting to ask this for a while, but he never knew who he could ask.

After all, their ranks were low. Asking someone like He Shian would be like trying to pry into Advanced-level secrets.

But without a clear answer, Shi Feng couldn’t feel at ease. And it wasn’t just him—the other four felt the same way.

"If they saw them, they must have rescued them, right?"

’Surviving humans?’

Listening to Shi Feng’s question, Captain Li looked confused. ’What survivors? Everything brought back from that place was limited to data, specimens, and things of that nature.’ He hadn’t heard a single word about any survivors.

"Could you have been mistaken?" Captain Li said in a low, heavy voice. "There were no survivors with the team that returned that day."

They all fell silent. ’It seems whoever infiltrated has a very high position in the First Corps. All those people in the cages... he just says they don’t exist, and poof, they’re gone. They must have been silenced.’

"We were the first ones on site. The entire path was lined with various mutant beast laboratories, and at the very end, there was a human one. There were living people inside."

"A lot of them," Lin Jingjing added, her tone absolutely certain.

"It seems the infiltrator holds a very high position within the First Corps."
