Chapter 80: Let’s Be Friends
Chapter 80: Chapter 80: Let’s Be Friends
The faces of these chosen ones, coddled and praised their entire lives, darkened in that instant.
Bei He was considered a genius among them, so to think she had actually lost to a good-for-nothing...
How could they possibly show their faces now?
"Where are the medics?" Lin Jingjing glanced at the unconscious Bei He on the ground and then yelled to the crowd.
"If no one comes to help her soon, she’s going to bleed to death!"
The crowd stopped cheering at her words. Just then, a robot hurried onto the field.
After scanning Bei He from head to toe with its mechanical eyes, it announced, "External injuries and excessive blood loss. One vial of a Grade B Recovery Agent is recommended."
Hearing the robot’s diagnosis, an instructor came forward, took out a Recovery Potion, and poured it down Bei He’s throat.
After the potion was administered, the robot scanned her again and confirmed that her body was beginning to heal.
"Please move the patient to a level surface to rest," the robot added.
The instructor immediately lifted Bei He onto his back and carried her toward a shady spot.
After finding a place to set Bei He down, the instructor left without a second glance.
Lin Jingjing was also covered in wounds, but compared to Bei He, her injuries were minor.
After finishing with Bei He, however, the robot approached Lin Jingjing and gave her a similar head-to-toe scan.
"Minor internal and external injuries. One vial of a Grade D Recovery Agent is required." The robot’s mechanical voice announced. Hearing this, several people nearby pulled out recovery potions and offered them to Lin Jingjing.
Seeing the recovery potions offered to her, Lin Jingjing smiled and waved her hands dismissively. "No, thank you. I have my own. You should save those for yourselves."
Many recovery potions were extended toward Lin Jingjing, and among them, she spotted a red one.
This stunned her. ’An Advanced Recovery Agent? And they’re just handing it to me like this?’
Lin Jingjing looked up at the person offering it. He had golden hair and a warm smile. Noticing her gaze, his smile widened.
"It’s for you," the man said, smiling.
"No, I couldn’t. It’s too valuable." Lin Jingjing waved her hands dismissively. She remembered Feng He telling her about them.
’A single Advanced Recovery Agent costs two hundred thousand Star Coins. It’s ridiculously expensive.’
Yet this person was offering it to her without a second thought. She took another look at him—he was tall and strikingly handsome.
Though he wore the same standard-issue training uniform as everyone else, the way he stood there made him stand out like a crane among chickens.
He was clearly in a different league from the rest of them.
Hearing her refusal, Billy just smiled. "It’s only a recovery potion. I have plenty more."
"Besides, this is the cheapest one I have on me."
Lin Jingjing was speechless. The other new recruits who had offered her their potions also fell silent.
Everyone discreetly put away their own low-grade recovery potions. In the presence of a true tycoon, their offerings felt pathetic.
’He’s already said so much. It would be rude to refuse now.’
’Besides, who turns down a freebie this valuable?’
Lin Jingjing reached out and accepted it. "Thank you," she said with a smile.
"Of course. I’m Billy, by the way. I’d like to be friends with you." As he spoke, Billy raised his Star Ring. "Mind if I add you?"
’Adding a friend for two hundred thousand Star Coins? Absolutely.’
After stowing the Advanced Recovery Agent, Lin Jingjing activated her own Star Ring and added Billy.
Once they were connected, Billy looked at her seriously. "You’re very strong. I’d like to spar with you sometime, if I get the chance."
"I’m very busy, no time for sparring," Lin Jingjing said, waving her hand with a light chuckle. "If you’re looking for a match, you can fight them." She gestured toward her four friends nearby.
Billy looked over and saw the four of them huddled together, talking amongst themselves.
Then they started shoving each other for some reason. Billy watched them, pursing his lips slightly. ’They don’t look very reliable,’ he thought.
Looking away from them, Billy asked, "Are you really that busy?
"Yep." Lin Jingjing nodded. Seeing the handsome guy’s visible disappointment, she felt a little bad. After a moment’s thought, she said, "Tell you what. Once you’ve beaten all of them, I’ll fight you."
At her words, Billy’s gentle and refined demeanor immediately returned. His eyes crinkled into a smile. "Deal."
When Lin Jingjing rejoined her four friends, they looked her over from top to bottom before showering her with praise.
"That’s our Sister Lin for you! Fucking awesome!"
"You even beat a 2S-rank! Doesn’t that mean you have no equal among the new recruits?"
"Sister Lin, I’m counting on you to keep me safe from now on!" Shi Feng exclaimed, grabbing onto Lin Jingjing’s arm.
He had a baby face and a slender build. Clinging to Lin Jingjing’s arm, he looked for all the world like a pretty but useless vase.
"Pay up," Lin Jingjing said bluntly, holding her hand out in front of him.
Shi Feng immediately let go. "What money?" he asked, acting as if nothing had happened.
"I don’t work as a bodyguard for free," Lin Jingjing said as she reached out and ruffled his hair. ’So soft,’ she thought.
Just then, Jiang Lusheng stood up, raised a megaphone, and yelled, "Is there anyone else who’s not convinced?"
"Does anyone still think they were cheating?!"
After Jiang Lusheng’s two questions, the crowd was silent. Lin Jingjing’s strength was undeniable. Who would dare question it now?
But after watching the fight, everyone was left with one question. ’Isn’t Lin Jingjing supposed to be a Grade D piece of trash?’
’How could her spiritual power materialize?’
’Could she be some kind of rare prodigy?’
Despite their questions, everyone had the unspoken agreement not to ask.
’Who cares, anyway?’ As long as they were winning and putting those arrogant "chosen ones" in their place, that was all that mattered.
Cyril stood a short distance away, his eyes locked on Lin Jingjing.
Cyril clenched his fists, his face a mask of bitter unwillingness.
Corey, on the other hand, just scoffed, though the arrogant look had vanished from his face.
It seemed he had finally realized he wasn’t as strong as he thought.
"Since no one has any objections, get back to running!" Jiang Lusheng yelled. "You’re dismissed when you finish your laps, and not a moment sooner!"
The crowd immediately erupted in groans. Wearing weighted rings, how were they ever going to finish?
But despite their groans, everyone silently took out their weighted rings, put them on, and resumed their run.
Having just fought two matches, Lin Jingjing had already used up more than half her energy. She hadn’t been running for long before her stamina was almost completely depleted.
"I’m tired..." Lin Jingjing said.
The moment she said she was tired, the four of them whipped their heads around to look at her,
"Sister Lin, I’ll carry you!" Feng He immediately shouted.
"Let me, I’m stronger!" Gu Kaiwen added, right on his heels.
"I’d better not," Shi Feng explained. "I’m afraid I’d drop you."
In the end, Gu Kaiwen swooped in, hoisted Lin Jingjing onto his back, and charged forward with a huge grin on his face. "Sister Lin," he yelled, "Let’s go!"
Lying on his back, Lin Jingjing smiled at his words. "Yeah. Let’s go."
