Sorry, Our Captain Is a True All-Rounder

Chapter 76: What is Forbidden Medicine?

Chapter 76: Chapter 76: What is Forbidden Medicine?

Hearing him cry out in pain made Feng He’s heart ache even more.

Looking at all the wounds covering his body, her heart ached. "Why do you always have to push yourself so hard? You’re completely covered in injuries."

As she spoke, she reached for the Space Ring on Lin Jingjing’s hand to take out a Recovery Potion for him, all while muttering, "It ought to hurt. Serves you right."

A smile spread across Mo Xuan’s face at her words. He started to act spoiled, his voice sickeningly sweet. "Comfort me, Feng He."

The three single friends standing nearby heard this, and their expressions soured. Shi Feng and Lin Jingjing folded their arms, their faces masks of pure disgust.

Gu Kaiwen, who was supporting him with one arm, broke out in goosebumps and slapped him on the back.

He then leaned in and muttered in Mo Xuan’s ear, "PDA kills, you know."

Mo Xuan let out a stifled grunt. Hearing it, Feng He, now holding the Recovery Potion, glared at Gu Kaiwen. "Why did you hit him?"

On the receiving end of her glare, Gu Kaiwen just grinned and explained, "He said his back was itchy. I was just giving it a scratch for him and accidentally hit a wound."

’Mo Xuan couldn’t care less about PDA. All he wanted was to get more of his fiancée’s attention.’

On the field, Corey was carried away on a stretcher. A team of professional medics examined him, only feeding him some medicine after assessing the extent of his injuries.

Cyril walked onto the competition field amidst a buzz of discussion and cheers from the crowd.

His sharp gaze landed on Lin Jingjing. "Are you going to get up here or not?"

Lin Jingjing was standing off to the side, watching Mo Xuan whimpering in Feng He’s arms. ’He looks so pathetic and smug at the same time,’ she thought. ’He’s just asking for a beating.’

When she suddenly heard his question, she looked up and turned toward Cyril. It finally dawned on her.

’It’s my turn to fight.’

"Alright guys, I’m off," Lin Jingjing said, stretching lazily as she started to walk forward.

At her words, the other four looked at her, their eyes filled with concern. Mo Xuan dropped his act, his expression turning serious.

The four of them urged her, "Sister Lin, be careful."

Lin Jingjing waved a hand dismissively, her voice light. "I know, I know. Just watch me wipe the floor with him."

When their supporters nearby heard this, they grew even more fired up, as if her words embodied all their hopes.

They pumped their fists in the air and roared, "Knock ’em down!"

The chant started, one voice after another, until the entire field echoed with the words.

Lin Jingjing stood before Cyril, watching the new recruits cheer her on and shout fighting words. She scratched her head and grinned at him. "They have such high expectations of me. I guess I’ll just have to knock you on your ass."

Cyril snorted, his eyes filled with contempt and arrogance.

"You think *you* have what it takes to beat me?"

"If you think I’m anything like that idiot, you’re sorely mistaken."

As he spoke, Cyril condensed his spiritual power into a long saber. He immediately unleashed a Spirit Attack, pressing down on Lin Jingjing, before settling into an offensive stance.

He sneered, "He and I are not in the same league."

Lin Jingjing felt his Spirit Attack wash over her. It was like being tickled; it had no suppressive force whatsoever.

Seeing his look of utter confidence, Lin Jingjing let out a small laugh. She extended her hand, and a pistol materialized in her grip.

"I can make weapons with my spiritual power too," Lin Jingjing said with a grin, cocking the faintly glowing golden pistol in her hand. "And mine is more advanced than yours." She raised the pistol and gave it a little shake.

"Your Spiritual Attack Power is like a kitten’s scratch. I don’t feel a thing," Lin Jingjing said with a laugh.

Hearing Lin Jingjing’s words and seeing the smile plastered on her face, Cyril understood that he was being mocked.

’This woman was mocking him!’

The arrogant Cyril couldn’t stand being mocked by some low-level nobody. "Go to hell!" he roared, charging forward.

Cyril rushed forward, swinging the great saber in a direct arc toward Lin Jingjing.

Yet Lin Jingjing remained where she stood, an easy smile on her face, not moving a single inch.

Just as the saber was about to strike Lin Jingjing, a faintly golden wall materialized in front of her, blocking Cyril’s attack.

Cyril stared in disbelief as his attack was stopped cold.

With a flick of his wrist, his body accelerated, and he began a flurry of strikes, each one aimed at Lin Jingjing’s vital points.

It was clear he wanted to kill Lin Jingjing, but unfortunately for him, every single one of his strikes was deflected by her Spiritual Protection.

They stood face to face. Lin Jingjing raised her pistol and fired at his shoulder. Though Cyril reacted quickly, the bullet still managed to graze him as he dodged.

Blood trickled from the wound. Cyril glanced at his shoulder, his expression growing darker.

He whipped his head back to face Lin Jingjing and demanded furiously, "How is your spiritual power so strong?"

"Did you take a banned substance?"

’Hearing this, Lin Jingjing, who was so broke her pockets were cleaner than her face, was rendered speechless. The five of them were still scrounging for free Nutrient Liquid from time to time; where would they get the money for banned substances?’

’Besides, what even were these banned substances they kept talking about? Where would someone even buy them?’

’They had no idea. How could these people just accuse them of using banned substances at every turn? Couldn’t their spiritual power have grown through their own hard work?’

’Although, her own grade did seem to be dropping, come to think of it.’

Before Lin Jingjing could even retort, some of her comrades in the crowd shouted back.

"Banned substances, my ass! That crap was outlawed by the Empire’s elite hundreds of years ago! A normal person like us would never even get close to it in our entire lives!"

"You talk about banned substances non-stop. We’re starting to suspect *your* high grades are from juicing! Otherwise, how could you not even beat someone with Grade D spiritual power?"

"Go screw yourselves! You rich folks can pop as many banned substances as you want, since you’ve got plenty of Star Coins to buy Spirit Recovery Agents! Don’t you realize for normal people like us, taking that stuff is a one-way ticket to the grave?"

"I’ve only got one life to live! You think I’d throw it away on that crap?"

The barrage of retorts made Cyril’s expression turn even more savage. He glared viciously at Lin Jingjing, his voice turning brutal. "If a piece of trash like you isn’t on drugs, how in the hell could you block so many of my attacks!"

Lin Jingjing scratched her head, then took a step forward. Her perpetually smiling face finally turned serious.

"Have you ever considered the possibility that this is simply the result of our hard work?" Lin Jingjing asked, staring him down. "You people are born with the best resources and the highest spiritual power. You spend your days surrounded by sycophants, listening to their flattery until you start to believe you’re the strongest."

"Your noses are so high in the air you can’t see straight. You look at everyone else and just see a bunch of scrubs."

Lin Jingjing looked at him and said calmly, "Have you ever heard the saying? No matter how good you are, there’s always someone better."
