Sorry, Our Captain Is a True All-Rounder

Chapter 70: General Zhang

Chapter 70: Chapter 70: General Zhang

After finishing their tasks, the six of them sat down to eat the snacks they had gotten from the restaurant the other day.

As Aidan ate, he couldn’t help but ask, "Where did you guys get these snacks?"

The snacks looked and tasted familiar to him.

"The young lady at the restaurant’s front desk gave them to us. She gave us a whole big bag," Shi Feng, who was sitting beside him, replied. ’That girl was so nice.’

Aidan looked down at the snack in his hand, a surprised expression on his face.

’I can’t believe they’re just eating snacks someone else gave them.’

"That young lady at the front desk is such a good person," Shi Feng remarked again. "She saved us from having to spend money on snacks."

"Want some mushrooms?" Feng He asked, holding out two skewers of grilled mushrooms. Enticed by the aroma wafting from them, Aidan didn’t hesitate. "Yes," he said, reaching out to take them.

They didn’t just grill the mushrooms; they also washed the enoki mushrooms they’d bought at the supermarket and put them on the grill.

And so, their outdoor barbecue began. After wandering around the area for a bit, Gu Kaiwen unexpectedly discovered a river not far away.

The river was clear, with algae at the bottom and fish swimming within its currents.

Gu Kaiwen observed more closely and discovered some animal tracks on the bank. It looked like this was the local watering hole for nearby animals.

After his observation, Gu Kaiwen took off his shoes, grabbed a rock, and waded into the river.

Standing in the middle of the river, Gu Kaiwen waited for fish to swim by, then immediately used the rock to stun them.

After stunning a few fish, he picked them up one by one and headed back, overjoyed.

"Everyone, I’m back with fish!" he shouted happily, lifting the fish in his hand so high it blocked his view. He completely failed to notice that a large group of people had appeared at their campsite.

Captain Li, He Shian, and Beisang watched him return, pant legs rolled up and a few fish in hand. His face was beaming, and he clearly had no idea what was going on.

A wave of despair washed over them. ’Can’t he see General Zhang, the commander of all legions, is standing right here?’

General Zhang watched him, his brow furrowing slightly.

The few people standing nearby watched the carefree Gu Kaiwen swagger over, looks of exasperation on their faces.

’Are his eyes glued to the sky? Can’t he be bothered to glance at his surroundings?’

"Gu Kaiwen..." Lin Jingjing called out to him in a low voice. But with the abnormally high Spirit Levels of everyone present, they all heard her crystal clear, no matter how quiet she was.

Gu Kaiwen, however, didn’t hear a thing. When no one praised him, he lowered the fish in confusion, only to see a large group of people standing opposite him.

His friends were standing in a neat row off to the side. A wave of awkwardness instantly washed over him.

An awkward smile plastered on his face, Gu Kaiwen slowly shuffled toward Lin Jingjing, muttering, "Hello, sirs."

With a single stride, he was next to Lin Jingjing, that same awkward smile fixed on his face.

General Zhang glanced at the equipment they had laid out, cleared his throat, and asked, "What are you doing here?"

Not one of the six answered. They all bowed their heads so low it looked as if they were trying to bury their faces in the ground.

Seeing that no one was answering, General Zhang’s gaze fell upon Beisang.

Beisang sensed the gaze, immediately stepped forward, and turned his eyes to Lin Jingjing. "Lin Jingjing," he said, "step forward and explain."

’Nooooo!’ Lin Jingjing screamed internally. Still, she obediently stepped forward, stood ramrod straight, and saluted them.

"Sir, we are having a barbecue!"

"Isn’t this supposed to be training time?" Zhang Jianjun pressed, his sharp eyes scanning her as his oppressive aura bore down on her.

"The five of us are on leave..."

Lin Jingjing felt an immense pressure, but her body remained straight as she screamed internally.

’I should have checked my horoscope before leaving today.’ Her luck was so bad she was starting to question her very existence.

She’d been cornered the moment she left the dorms, dragged to the cafeteria to cause a scene, and even got fifty lashes for it. Now that her wounds had finally healed, all she wanted was to eat the roast chicken she’d been dreaming of.

But who could have predicted that before the chicken was even on the grill, Chief Bei and his entourage would show up?

And the person they brought with them was none other than General Zhang, commander of all the legions.

’My secret chicken barbecue has been exposed.’

Lin Jingjing just wanted to curse and rant.

"What department are you from?" General Zhang continued to ask, looking at her.

Lin Jingjing answered honestly, "Besides Aidan, the five of us are all from the Logistics Department."

’Logistics, huh. No wonder they’re out here having a barbecue.’

Just then, a delicious aroma filled the air—the scent of the enoki and other mushrooms they were grilling.

The aroma immediately drew their attention. Seeing them all staring at the grill rack, Lin Jingjing hurriedly explained, "Those are enoki and other mushrooms."

"Sir, would you like to try some?" Lin Jingjing asked with a smile.

General Zhang’s nose twitched. He then nodded. "Alright."

The men standing behind him heard his agreement and stared at him in surprise.

’Isn’t General Zhang here to inspect the grounds for the legion competition? Why is he just sitting down to eat?’

’It was just a polite offer! I can’t believe he actually took me up on it!’ Lin Jingjing cursed herself internally.

He was the boss, and he wanted to eat. Lin Jingjing handed him a skewer of cooked mushrooms. "Here you are, sir."

General Zhang sat down on a small stool, took the skewer of mushrooms, sniffed it, and then carefully took a bite.

Finding it fragrant and delicious, he couldn’t resist taking a second bite after finishing the first.

There were only three mushrooms on the skewer. After finishing them, General Zhang was left wanting more.

"Are there any more?" he asked, setting the wooden skewer aside and fixing his sharp eyes on Lin Jingjing.

Lin Jingjing pointed to the ones on the grill, which were on the verge of burning. "These... aren’t ready yet."

General Zhang nodded. "Well, since the barbecue has already started, you all should carry on."

"Let’s see the skills of you folks from the Logistics Department."

’Does that mean he’s planning to sit down and eat with us?’

Lin Jingjing looked at the dozen or so people crowded behind him. ’We don’t have enough food for everyone.’

"Sir, we don’t have enough food..." Lin Jingjing reminded him tactfully.

"That’s simple," General Zhang said, looking at Captain Li behind him. "Li Wang, go and prepare some more food to bring over."

Captain Li found the whole situation surreal. ’Didn’t General Zhang come here to survey the terrain?’

’How did he end up sitting down and eating with this bunch?’

’And now he’s making me go get more food. This is just too bizarre.’

"Yes, sir," Captain Li acknowledged. He then glanced at Lin Jingjing, realizing that there was always some unexpected surprise when she was around.

The other five, who had been frozen in the background, could finally move again. Feng He and Mo Xuan immediately took over the mushroom grilling duties.

Shi Feng dragged Gu Kaiwen off to clean the fish, leaving only Aidan standing there, at a complete loss.

’I don’t know how to do anything!’

’With so many high-ranking officers here, it’s not right for me to just stand around.’

Aidan watched the other two leave with the fish and immediately hurried after them.
