Sorry, Our Captain Is a True All-Rounder

Chapter 38: Apology

Chapter 38: Chapter 38: Apology

"I wonder if it’s a result of her spiritual power," Lin Jingjing said in a low voice.

Hearing this, Feng He rubbed his chin and thought it over.

’It’s certainly possible,’ he thought. ’After all, Chief Bei can walk on air.’

’So it’s not that surprising for Sister Lin to recover a little faster.’

"Well, that’s a good thing, then," Feng He chimed in.

After saying their goodbyes to Beisang, the group left the hospital room. The main headquarters was bustling with people, a lively scene of constant traffic.

The major battle had just ended, so there was still much to do.

On the way back, they ran into Captain Li.

Captain Li was leaning against a tree, the ground at his feet littered with crushed-out cigarette butts.

Captain Li’s face was dark. He stood with his arms crossed, hidden in the shadows, a cigarette dangling from his lips.

They wouldn’t have even noticed him if he hadn’t suddenly called out.

"Captain Li, what are you doing here?" Lin Jingjing, who was walking at the front, asked when she saw his dark expression and the butts on the ground.

Captain Li sneered at her words. He strode over and smacked each of the five on the head.

His voice was tight with anger. "You lot have some real nerve. I tell you to deliver food, and you go and pull a stunt like that."

"If Chief Bei hadn’t intervened, you brat, you would’ve been killed by that mutant beast long ago!"

Still not satisfied, Captain Li raised his hand and smacked her again.

Lin Jingjing rubbed her head and looked at Captain Li with a wronged expression. "Well, I didn’t know it would turn out like that."

"You didn’t know? You didn’t know, yet you dared to run around with a damn sniper rifle!" Captain Li shot back without holding back.

"Chief Bei is in the hospital because she had to save you!"

Lin Jingjing paused for a moment before saying, "A slight correction, Captain Li."

"Chief Bei’s actions didn’t just save me. She saved everyone on B6 Star."

"If Chief Bei hadn’t cut off that white mutant beast’s head, all of us might be dead right now, devoured by mutant beasts. The entirety of B6 Star would have become a useless wasteland."

Lin Jingjing looked Captain Li in the eye, a smile playing on her lips. "We should all be thanking Chief Bei for leading us to victory and repelling the mutant beasts, regardless of the danger to herself."

With just a few sentences, she had completely reframed the situation to praise Chief Bei’s deeds.

Captain Li was stunned. ’This kid completely absolved herself of all responsibility.’

"Slick talker," Captain Li commented.

The others chuckled but said nothing.

Then Lin Jingjing acted again. She took the ring from her finger and offered it to Captain Li. Pursing her lips, she said, "I’m sorry, Captain Li. I failed to complete my mission."

The meals stored in the ring never made it to the soldiers.

She hadn’t properly completed the task Captain Li had assigned.

Looking at the proffered Space Ring, Captain Li took it and said, "All of you, go get some rest. It’s been a long day. You must be exhausted."

As he finished speaking, he gave Shi Feng a heavy pat on the shoulder.

Shi Feng felt helpless. ’They’re all going to rest, so why is Captain Li patting my shoulder?’

’And with that dark face, he’s terrifying.’

Back in their dorm, the group quickly sorted their things, washed up in the communal bathhouse, and immediately fell asleep the moment they lay down.

Captain Li hadn’t given them any work today, so they could finally get a proper rest.

They slept straight through to the evening. Lin Jingjing sat up in bed, still a bit groggy after waking up naturally.

’I haven’t had such a good sleep in a long time.’

The exhaustion had completely vanished from her body.

After contacting each other via their Star Rings, the group got ready and left the dormitory.

The five of them entered the cafeteria and went to the station for free Nutrient Liquid, each grabbing a tube.

After grabbing their drinks, they noticed a window serving free food right next to it.

They were all stunned.

’There’s a window for free food!’

One look at the dishes told them it was the food they had cooked earlier.

Without caring whether it had spoiled, each of them grabbed a tray and started piling on rice and other dishes.

With their trays filled to the brim, the group found a corner and began to eat.

It hadn’t spoiled, but the flavor wasn’t quite as good as when it was fresh.

"Delicious!" Gu Kaiwen exclaimed after shoveling in a huge mouthful of rice.

’Damn it, how long has it been since we’ve had meat!’

’And today, I finally get to eat some.’

’Sob... It’s so good!’

As Shi Feng ate his meat, he made a silent vow. ’I have to work hard and make money so everyone can eat delicious meals like this.’

After finishing their first portions, they ran back for seconds.

He Shian entered the cafeteria and scanned the room, his eyes landing on the small group in a dim corner.

If it weren’t for his excellent eyesight, he might not have spotted them at all.

Looking at all the empty tables nearby, He Shian wondered why they had chosen to sit in the corner.

He didn’t get it, but remembering the purpose of his visit, He Shian pursed his lips and walked over.

The table was large. They were sitting across from each other, leaving an empty seat next to Lin Jingjing.

He Shian walked up and took the seat. The moment they saw him, they all froze, their meals forgotten.

A second later, they all shot up from their seats and saluted.

"Admiral He..." they called out, their expressions shifting.

A timidness crept into their eyes. The memory of Admiral He losing his temper and yelling at them in the hospital room was still vivid.

They were all keenly aware of the gap between them.

They were Grade D rejects. He was the Admiral of the First Corps.

The difference was like heaven and earth. It was best not to get on his bad side.

They still wanted to live, after all.

Noticing how tense they’d become, He Shian knew he had been out of line that day.

’I shouldn’t have taken my anger out on them,’ he thought. ’But when I saw Beisang, thinking she might never recover her spiritual power after all her years of hard work...’

’To have it all destroyed in an instant... it just made me so angry.’

He never expected that Beisang would make a move like that on the battlefield—unleashing all her spiritual power to crush those mutant beasts.

"Please, sit," He Shian said, gesturing with his hand for them to sit.

His eyes fell on the trays in front of them, the ones from the free food window.

He Shian asked casually, "Why aren’t you eating something better?"

"This is great," Lin Jingjing answered.

’It’s nutritionally balanced, with both meat and vegetables.’

"But this food has been sitting out for over a day," He Shian pointed out. He felt eating leftovers wasn’t healthy.

"Hahaha, if it’s edible, it’s good enough for us," Feng He joked.

His presence made them all tense up. Even the way they ate suddenly became more refined.

Lin Jingjing finished her last bite of rice, put down her chopsticks, and asked, "Is there something you needed, Admiral He?"

"Last night, in the hospital room... I shouldn’t have spoken to you all that way," He Shian began, looking at them.

"I let my anger get the best of me. I’m here to apologize." After speaking, He Shian stood up and gave them a slight bow.

"I’m sorry."

This left all five of them completely flustered. ’He’s an admiral! How can he be apologizing to us?’
