Chapter 20: Grade D is Grade D
Chapter 20: Chapter 20: Grade D is Grade D
In another greenhouse, the two women were huddled together, chatting.
They were just chatting about random things, with Feng He asking questions and Lin Jingjing answering.
"Sister Lin!" Shi Feng shouted as he entered. "I have something important to announce!"
Lin Jingjing and Feng He both turned to look at him and asked, "What’s the important announcement?"
"Something very important." Shi Feng dragged it out, his expression unusually solemn.
Feng He slung an arm around his shoulder and poked his round little face. "Xiao Shi, why are you being so mysterious? Spit it out."
Lin Jingjing also looked at him and said, "What’s the important news?"
Shi Feng turned to the side, then shouted to the two people outside the greenhouse, "You can come in!"
Getting the signal, Gu Wenkai and Mo Xuan walked in side-by-side. The two of them had been starving for so long they were almost unrecognizable.
Standing together, one was pale and the other dark. Perhaps because they had gotten so thin, they both looked tall and lanky, their cheeks sunken.
Lin Jingjing looked at the two men, unable to recognize them at first glance.
After looking them over, her gaze fell on Shi Feng, her eyes seeming to ask, ’Who are they?’
Feng He’s gaze, however, was fixed dazedly on Mo Xuan. She blurted out, "Are you Mo Xuan?"
Mo Xuan nodded. Beside them, Lin Jingjing’s eyes widened when she heard this. ’They’ve gotten this thin?’
The moment he nodded, Feng He started to cry.
She walked up to Mo Xuan and raised her hands to cup his cheeks, her eyes turning red.
"How did you get so thin?" Feng He asked, her voice choked with sobs. The Mo Xuan from her past life was the type who was lean when clothed but muscular underneath. The current Mo Xuan was just thin.
Seeing her cry made Mo Xuan’s heart ache.
He raised a hand to touch hers and quickly comforted her, "It’s okay. This is only temporary. I’ll fill out again later."
Then, to coax her, he joked, "You’re not going to see me like this and decide you don’t want me anymore, are you?" He even pretended to look heartbroken and miserable.
If the pale man was Mo Xuan, then the one next to him had to be Gu Wenkai.
Lin Jingjing leaned close to Shi Feng’s ear and whispered, "Did you check the countersign?"
"Checked it. He knew everything."
Lin Jingjing nodded. "Alright then."
After Shi Feng nodded, Lin Jingjing immediately rushed forward and threw her arms around Gu Kaiwen. "Finally! We’ve been waiting so long for you guys!"
"You’re the same as always, so dark," Lin Jingjing commented. After her assessment, she looked over at Mo Xuan. "You too. You look like a boiled chicken."
The couple was together now, and Mo Xuan completely ignored Lin Jingjing.
"Looks to me like those two are going to be all lovey-dovey for a while," Shi Feng commented from the side.
But Gu Wenkai’s attention was elsewhere. Seeing the three of them so clean and well-fed, he couldn’t help but ask, "How long have you been here?"
"Every one of you looks so well-fed."
Lin Jingjing and Shi Feng both looked down at themselves. They weren’t fat; they were still skinny.
It was just that compared to the two newcomers, the three of them did indeed look a bit chubbier.
"It’s because you two are too thin." Lin Jingjing looked at his arm, which was practically skin and bones.
The little couple next to them was still being sappy. Lin Jingjing couldn’t help but interrupt, "Alright, stop being so lovey-dovey. It’s time to work."
After the reminder, she added a little threat: "If you don’t finish, you don’t get dinner tonight!"
After the brief reunion, the group threw themselves into their work.
They worked late into the night. After the last valve was closed, everyone collapsed to the ground, but Lin Jingjing stood to the side as if nothing was wrong.
Gu Wenkai couldn’t take it anymore. He sat up and asked, "Is this what you do every day?"
"Not just this." Lin Jingjing shook her head. "Anything related to logistics, we do it."
"You’re not tired?" Mo Xuan asked with a frown, watching her stand there, speaking so effortlessly.
"Logically, we’re all Grade D Spiritual Ability Users. We’ve been working for so long that we’re all exhausted, but you seem perfectly fine," Mo Xuan said.
"That’s right! This morning, the two of us were hit by Chief Bei’s spiritual pressure from just a single glance. We coughed up blood and had to spend half the day in the hospital, but you were completely fine. That’s not normal." Shi Feng also scrambled up from the ground, his eyes wide with confusion as he stared at Lin Jingjing.
Now that they mentioned it, Lin Jingjing realized it too.
’Someone with Grade D spiritual power should be exhausted like them.’
’But I’ve been working for so long and I’m not tired at all. In fact, I feel perfectly fine.’
Lin Jingjing clenched and unclenched her fist, thinking of the time Captain Li sent someone flying with a single punch.
’If your level is high, your strength and everything else should increase too.’
"How about we run an experiment?" Lin Jingjing suggested.
"What kind of experiment?"
An experiment needs a test subject. Lin Jingjing thought for a moment, then said, "Let’s go to the back of the mountain."
"We can use the rock pile on the back mountain," Feng He chimed in. "There are a lot of rocks there, and it’s far away. No matter how much noise we make, we won’t bother anyone here."
"Alright, let’s go then." Mo Xuan stood up, dusting himself off.
The five of them headed toward the rock pile on the back mountain. When they arrived, they saw many boulders that were not spaced very far apart.
Lin Jingjing stood in front of a boulder, with the other four standing a short distance away.
A ball of light floated in the air—the same one they used when delivering meals last time. The four of them watched her.
"You can start whenever you’re ready!" Shi Feng shouted after aiming the blue screen’s recording function at Lin Jingjing.
After he shouted, they all focused their full attention on Lin Jingjing. She, in turn, clenched her fist and stared intently at the boulder in front of her.
Under everyone’s watchful eyes, she punched the boulder. It didn’t crack; instead, Lin Jingjing’s hand was injured.
"AAAAAAH—" Lin Jingjing hopped up and down, frantically shaking her hand. The pain was so intense that tears streamed down her face.
Blood slowly trickled from the scraped skin. As she shook her hand wildly, she splattered blood everywhere.
Feng He rushed forward and grabbed her hand, discovering that the back of her hand was scraped up over the knuckles, and blood was still flowing freely.
They had to stop the bleeding quickly. Feng He looked around under the illumination of the light ball.
Not far away, she spotted a large patch of Xue Jianchou. ’This is good,’ she thought. ’This herb can stop bleeding.’
Feng He ran over, picked the Xue Jianchou, and after preparing it briefly, applied it to Lin Jingjing’s wound.
They were all focused on Lin Jingjing’s injury. No one noticed the boulder slowly cracking in half.
Not a single person noticed this small change.
"Damn it, it was fake!" Lin Jingjing’s face was pale with pain as she swore loudly.
She was such an idiot, punching that huge boulder with all her might.
Who else would be in pain if not her?
"Grade D is Grade D. There’s no changing it," Lin Jingjing said, dejected. She had thought her Spirit Level might have increased.
