Reborn into Naruto World with Tenseigan

Chapter 987: The Potential Matchup

Although the brief moment when Uzumaki Naruto effortlessly broke free from Uchiha Sasuke’s Genjutsu surprised onlookers, it didn’t alter the outcome of the fight. The match concluded with Naruto’s defeat.

“Uzumaki Naruto is unconscious, and the winner is Uchiha Sasuke!”

While Kuroto felt a twinge of regret over Naruto’s inability to defeat Sasuke, his thoughts shifted once the match concluded. Instead, he pondered how to expedite Naruto’s transformation into a perfect Jinchuriki.

It’s evident that the Nine-Tails is subtly assisting Naruto, but considering the tailed beast’s history, resistance to others, and tsun-tsun character, several external pushes are necessary for Naruto and Kurama to develop a close bond.

If Naruto were to achieve mastery as a perfect Jinchuriki, putting the power of the Nine-Tails under his control, Sasuke would undoubtedly face immense pressure until he awakens the Mangekyō Sharingan. At that point, it would be easier to stimulate him.

Although that is something to look forward to, this doesn’t imply that Kuroto’s plan for Uchiha Sasuke in this Graduation Tournament/Exam is over. There’s still one formidable opponent remaining, capable of defeating him.

No, it’s not Hyuga Neji, Shimizu Mika, or Uchiha Kiyomi, all three of them can certainly present a challenge, but it’s not them, nor is it Nara Shikamaru, Aburame Shino, Sai, Shin, Yakumo Kurama, Haruno Sakura, Hyuga Hinata, Tenten, Yamanaka Ino, Inuzuka Kiba, or Akimichi Chōji either.

The Kuroto plan to use to push Sasuke into a desperate state is Shion.

Soon, there will be a fight between Shion and Uchiha Sasuke, where Sasuke is expected to face defeat, but there’s still time for that fight as preceding that fight, there’s another significant fight between Yakumo Kurama and Shion.

Similar to the attention garnered by the matches between Shimizu Mika and Uchiha Kiyomi, as well as Hyuga Hinata and Tenten, the clash between Yakumo Kurama and Shion is drawing considerable interest.

While the Shinobi World boasts powerful Kunoichis like Elder Senju Tsunade from Konoha, Godaime Kazekage Pakura from Suna, the assistant of Yondaime Mizukage Terumi Mei from Kiri, the ‘Angel’ of Akatsuki, and the Homusubi of Amatsukami, among others, the overall ratio is still predominantly male. However, in today’s graduation exam, the girls’ performance is on par with, if not surpassing, that of the boys.

Shimizu Mika, Uchiha Kiyomi, Yakumo Kurama, Hyuga Hinata, Tenten, and Shion have demonstrated exceptional skills, often outshining boys like Uzumaki Naruto, Uchiha Sasuke, Rock Lee, Hyuga Neji, Shikamaru Nara, and Sai. In fact, there were instances where they even outperformed their male counterparts.

Witnessing such remarkable growth and competence in the next generation of Kunoichi, the older female ninjas are genuinely pleased. This scene is a rarity in the Shinobi World, and they are eager to savor it. For this reason, they are eagerly anticipating the upcoming fight between Yakumo Kurama and Shion. Neither of the two, along with Uchiha Sasuke, has suffered a defeat so far in the exam. Now that they are pitted against each other, the winner will proceed to face Uchiha Sasuke for the top position among the graduates of this year.

On one side is Yakumo Kurama, hailing from the Kurama Clan with aspirations of becoming an outstanding Kunoichi.

Yakumo faced the challenge of her parents considering her withdrawal from the Konoha Ninja Academy due to her declining physical health. Despite inheriting the complete Kekkei Genkai of the Kurama Clan that granted her exceptional Genjutsu skills, she was born with a frail physique, hindering her ability to engage in the physical demands of a ninja. Concerned that her dream might be jeopardized, her parents contemplated her departure from the academy early on so that she could choose a different path. However, as Yakumo was determined to pursue her goal, Kuroto – as the Principal of the Konoha Ninja Academy – intervened and successfully persuaded her parents otherwise.

Later on, Kurama Yakumo received personal guidance from Uchiha Shisui in Genjutsu and various other Shinobi arts. Shisui also assisted her in addressing the ‘Ido’ aspect of her personality by subduing it and bringing it under control. Concurrently, Senju Tsunade closely monitored Yakumo’s physical condition and devised a training regimen to enhance her physique over time. Thanks to these efforts, Yakumo has managed to persist in her journey to become an exceptional Kunoichi.

Of course, her development is still far from finished as despite significant improvements in her physique, Yakumo still hasn’t reached a point where she can sustain continuous combat throughout the day. While she excels in Genjutsu, her endurance is nearing its limits after numerous battles fought in the Graduation Exam.

In contrast, Shion appears to be in excellent condition. Although she has also faced numerous challenges, her adept use of Fuinjutsu has enabled her to handle most encounters with ease, and she doesn’t seem as fatigued as Yakumo.

Despite Shion’s mischievous and playful demeanor along with her tendencies to snack all the time, she is a formidable opponent when she gets serious. Her mastery over a certain set of skills aside from Fuinjutsu makes her challenging to deal with, and it’s not just about the angelic powers she can awaken by breaking the seal her mother has placed upon her when she was young. Instead, it’s more closely related to the Miko powers she already possesses, allowing her to peer into the future.

In the canon, Shion’s ability to see the future was limited, only extending to glimpses of her ‘death’ and the person would ‘forsake’ their life to prevent it. However, with dedicated training in this unique ability, the scope of her foresight has expanded. It is no longer confined to predicting her own ‘death’ or the ‘death’ of others; now, she can foresee a broader range of visions of the future, as a result, she can now foresee short-term events, observing multiple possible outcomes up to ten seconds ahead of her. This enables her to anticipate the various actions her ‘enemies’ might take and formulate countermeasures to secure victory.

And aside from Kuroto, no one in Konoha or the entire Shinobi World, not even Yui or Hinata is aware of Shion’s extraordinary power to be able to peer into the future. This secrecy makes it exceptionally challenging for others to counter her foresight.

While Shion acknowledges that her ability wouldn’t be effective against adversaries who far surpass her strength, Yakumo Kurama doesn’t fall into that category. In fact, Yakumo is precisely the kind of opponent that Shion feels confident in easily overcoming with her unique Dōjutsu, therefore, she is extremely certain that she will win this fight.

As the two Kunoichi took their places in the arena, Shion couldn’t help but notice Yakumo’s weakened state. Concerned for her opponent, she spoke up, “Yakumo-chan, you seem really tired. Wouldn’t it be better for you to withdraw?”

Yakumo was surprised by Shion’s unexpected suggestion. She hadn’t anticipated such a remark from Shion. However, shaking her head, Yakumo replied with a light smile, “Thank you for worrying about me, Shion-san, but… I still want to fight. Even if I am tired, I also want to graduate as the top trainee of the year. If I lose, then I lose, but I don’t want to give up before even trying. Many people have helped me, and I don’t want to let their efforts go to waste!”

“I see,” Shion nodded, a smile playing on her face. “In that case, I too will not hold back and go all out against you out of respect. Naturally, I don’t want to lose either when Kuroto-nii is watching. There is no way I, the cutest Imōto in the world, would embarrass her Onii-chan in front of everyone!”

Yakumo chuckled awkwardly at Shion’s declaration and responded with a smile, “Then let’s do our best!” She raised her hand to form the Seal of Confrontation.

“Of course,” Shion agreed, raising her arm to create the Seal of Confrontation as well.

With both participants ready, the referee signaled the start of the match, declaring, “Begin!”
