Chapter 957: The Inevitable War
In the previous encounter with Yama, although Nagato, ‘Madara,’ Sasori, and Konan managed to survive the explosion, others like Biwa Jūzō, Chinoike Mageta, Kaguya Takashi, Yuki Kahyō, and Yuki Rahyō weren’t so lucky.
Suddenly, Akatsuki lost five members. While they might not have been strong enough to face the members of Amatsukami, they posed a significant threat to normal Jonin and Kages. With their deaths, Akatsuki needed to replenish their strength.
If the plan of turning the Jinchuriki of the Two-Tails into the Human Path succeeds, the remaining four Jinchuriki they have captured—the Four-Tails, the Five-Tails, and the Eight-Tails—will also be transformed into the Six Paths of Pain one by one, compensating for their lack of strength and powerful members.
The Jinchuriki of the Four-Tails will be turned into the Naraka Path for the purpose of torture, the Jinchuriki of the Five-Tails into the Animal Path, the Jinchuriki of the Six-Tails into the Preta Path, and finally, the Jinchuriki of the Eight-Tails into the Asura Path.
Along with the Deva Path, which will not be replaced, the Six Paths of Pain will be born anew and used to capture the remaining Tailed-Beasts.
The idea of using Jinchuriki as the Six Paths of Pain is not a new concept; Nagato had been contemplating it for quite a while. About a year ago, Shimura Danzō destroyed the Six Paths of Pain that Nagato had sent after him. At that time, Nagato deeply realized that, except for the Deva Path, the other Paths were too weak against strong shinobi, especially now that their individual abilities had been recognized by the Five Great Nations.
To fight and defeat strong foes, the Six Paths of Pain had to be made from formidable individuals.
Ever since Nagato grasped this realization, he wasn’t in a hurry to create the Six Paths of Pain. Whether it was the raid on Iwagakure or the capture of the Jinchuriki of the Nine-Tails and the Jinchuriki of the Seven-Tails, Nagato decided to personally take action.
Another problem arises concerning the handling of the five Jinchuriki they have captured. The optimal approach is to absorb their chakra inside the Gedo Statue. Nagato did consider this option on several occasions. However, taking into account that the One-Tails is still under the cycle of reincarnation, Nagato chose not to do so, as the complete Ten-Tails cannot be resurrected in the absence of the One-Tails’ chakra.
But if their chakra is not sealed inside the Gedo Statue, how do you manage five Tailed-Beasts?When it was just the Two-Tails in their capture, it was relatively safe and easy for the Akatsuki to manage. However, with the addition of the Jinchuriki of the Four-Tails and the Five-Tails after the raid on Iwagakure, guarding three Jinchuriki at the same time became troublesome. Finally, with the capture of the Six-Tails and the Eight-Tails, the pressure of guarding them has become more challenging than ever.
The Akatsuki Organization lacks personnel, making it challenging to spare individuals to keep watch over the Five Jinchuriki. Hence, the idea of turning these Five Jinchuriki into the Six Paths of Pain was put into practice. It would be like killing three birds with a single stone. This approach would resolve the issue of dealing with the Five Jinchuriki, create new and more powerful Six Paths of Pain, and address the problem of the organization’s shortage of strong members.
Moreover, Nagato wouldn’t have to supply his chakra to individual Paths of Pain; the chakra of their respective tailed beasts sealed inside them could be utilized, further enhancing the strength of each Path. With the visual prowess of his Rinnegan, Nagato was confident he could effortlessly control the Five Jinchuriki once they were turned into the Six Paths of Pain. The only problem was figuring out how to turn ‘alive’ people into ‘paths.’
Nagato did not want his Paths to retain the consciousness of the original Jinchuriki. To achieve this, they had to be effectively ‘dead.’ However, killing the hosts posed a problem, as it would return the tailed beasts to the cycle of reincarnation.
In a moment of difficulty, Sasori brought forth a solution with his newly developed Puppetry. Using his puppetry technique, Sasori could completely erase the consciousness of the body and control the person as he desired. The original person wouldn’t die, but they wouldn’t be alive either. They wouldn’t be able to see, feel, or act, as their consciousness would be entirely erased. It was like being dead while being alive.
Nagato was skeptical, but he gave Sasori the benefit of the doubt and allowed him to work on the Jinchuriki of the Two-Tails. The final result was in front of him. Yugito Nii, the Jinchuriki of the Two-Tails, had been successfully transformed into what he wanted, as Sasori promised. Her consciousness had been erased, yet she was still living and breathing; it was as if she had become vegetative.
Satisfied with the results displayed by Sasori, Nagato followed his instructions and inserted his Black Receivers at the designated positions one by one, connecting them with a seal on Yugito Nii’s body and entrapping the consciousness of the Two-Tailed cat. This process completely turned her into the Human Path.
As the procedure concluded, the comatose Yugito Nii opened her eyes. The only difference was that she no longer had her black pupils with a white sclera; instead, a pair of lavender Rinnegan shone with a mysterious light.
Sasori and ‘Madara’ smiled lightly. The appearance of the Rinnegan in Yugito Nii’s eyes signified that the operation was successful; she had officially become the Human Path.
After confirming his control over her as the new Human Path, Nagato nodded with a satisfied expression. “As expected, Jinchurikis truly are the best subjects for making the Paths.”
Sasori shrugged. “I’m afraid only you can say such a thing about Jinchuriki, given your possession of the Rinnegan. Others dare not take a Jinchuriki lightly, let alone five at the same time.”
Not caring about Sasori’s words, Nagato ordered, “Start with the others and turn them into Paths as well.”
Sasori grinned. “I will be able to complete the transformation within two weeks,” and started to work on the other four Jinchuriki.
Nagato nodded lightly, then left Sasori’s lab. ‘Madara’ closely followed and asked, “What are you going to do next?”
Nagato answered, “For now, I am going to continue the training of Senjutsu. Once I completely master the knowledge, I acquired at Mount Myōboku, and once the Six Paths of Pain are completed, it will be time for us to make our final move and capture the remaining three Jinchuriki. I will personally go to Konoha and take control of Nine-Tails as well as Seven-Tails.”
‘Madara’ was silent for a moment, then said, “Isn’t that a bit too risky? Even if you were to master Senjutsu, and even if the new Six Paths of Pain are ready, you may not be able to contend against Yama of the Amatsukami. I suggest we take it slow and continue to act the way we have been doing, striking when the time is most ripe.”
Nagato shook his head. “It’s pointless; the final battle with Yama is inevitable. The sooner I defeat him, the sooner the plan will succeed.”
‘Madara’ nodded lightly. “I guess I can’t argue with that.” He, too, was aware that a final confrontation with the Amatsukami was inevitable. No matter what, they could not avoid a confrontation with Amatsukami if they wanted to resurrect the Ten-Tails. Nagato, once he mastered Senjutsu and acquired the new Six Paths of Pain, might have a chance of defeating Yama.
With that in mind, ‘Madara’ said, “I have confirmed it not long ago. On the night of the Coup d’état, the Uchiha Clan was restrained by the Amatsukami. They killed several elite Jonin of the Uchiha Clan, injured most of the Uchiha Clan, and also took the Mangekyou Sharingan of the former Patriarch of the Uchiha Clan. I think we can utilize this to our advantage when confronting Amatsukami.”
Nagato glanced at ‘Madara’ and asked, “What is your plan?”
‘Madara’ said with a smile, “The fact that Uchiha Fugaku’s Mangekyou Sharingan was taken away by the Amatsukami, and several Uchiha Clansmen were killed by them on that night, clearly means that once again the Uchihas have a personal vendetta with the Amatsukami. I am thinking of using that to our advantage.”
“You want to incite the Uchiha Clan into supporting us against the Amatsukami?” muttered Nagato, then asked, “Do you think the Uchiha Clan will cooperate with us? Especially with the presence of Uchiha Shinichi among them?”
‘Madara’ shrugged. “I can’t be certain about that, but I can at least be certain that the Uchiha Clan and the Amatsukami are at serious odds now. The current Patriarch of the Uchiha Clan – Uchiha Itachi – we have cooperated with him in the past, and perhaps we can do so once again. Even if he does not choose us, he will definitely not work with Amatsukami, so it’s worth a try. It’s not like we are losing anything.”
Nagato pondered over the suggestion.
‘Madara’ continued, “There is another thing we can use to our advantage. I have confirmed that the Hyuga Clan is searching for traces of Hyuga Aoki. This means that the information about his death at the hands of Ōtsutsuki Toneri, the Hyuga Clan doesn’t seem to have this knowledge. Using the method of cracking the ‘Caged Bird,’ we can tempt Hyuga Kuroto – who clearly wants a method to be able to break free from the Caged Bird – and make him cooperate with us against the Amatsukami.
“If we really want to go to war with Amatsukami, we will need all the support possible. Sure, you can fight Yama, I can fight Homusubi, Sasori can fight Dojin with the aid of his Hiruko puppet, and maybe Konan will be able to confront Suijin, but what about the rest? What about the second Homusubi? What about Fujin? And if we follow their trend, there are bound to be other members as well, maybe someone that specializes in the Lightning Chakra element, another one with the Yang Chakra element, and maybe more, we don’t know. We know too little about them.
I know we still have Kisame, Kakuzu, and Hidan, but these three don’t really stand much chance, maybe Kisame does, but not the other two. What’s more, we cannot ignore the Five Great Shinobi Villages either. Even though they stand no chance against us, they do seem to have a few capable people like Raikage, Mizukage, Kazekage, and Tsuchikage. There’s also Jiraiya, Tsunade, and Hatake Kakashi from Konoha aside from the Hokage and Uchiha Shisui. These people could prove to be troublesome.”
After a while of silence, Nagato nodded and said, “Go and do whatever you must.”
