Chapter 953: Testing Uchiha Sasuke
Fifth Training Field, Konohagakure
Thump!
After kicking away Sasuke, Kakashi mocked, “Is this the best the most genius child of the Uchiha Clan can do?”
“I am not done yet!” Sasuke snorted as he smashed the ground with his fist and immediately got up again. His clothes were dirty, and his cheek was swollen; however, the determination to not give up was shining through the three tomoe whirling in his scarlet eyes.
Kakashi, of course, noted that brilliance and couldn’t help but think to himself, ‘The character of Uchiha Sasuke, it’s exactly as Kuroto told me, huh?’
Having Uchiha Sasuke train under Kakashi was Kuroto’s arrangement. True, Jiraiya had taken Sasuke under his wing; however, the style of combat that Jiraiya uses is not suitable for Sasuke, who is a Uchiha.
Similar to how the combination of Rasengan and Multi-Shadow Clone Jutsu works perfectly for Naruto, the combination of ‘Kenjutsu’ and ‘Chidori’ would work perfectly for Sasuke. Considering that Kakashi is the disciple of Namikaze Minato, who was Jiraiya’s disciple, there is no problem if he teaches Sasuke. The boy would still be under Jiraiya’s wing.
Since Kakashi is from the Hatake Clan, he knows ‘Hatake-Style Swordsmanship.’ Kakashi’s father was renowned as the White Fang of Konoha, and even though Kakashi is not a Kenjutsu specialist himself, unlike Hatake Sakumo, he has enough knowledge of the said Ninja Art to be able to teach Sasuke. Additionally, the A-Rank Jutsu Chidori and the S-Rank Raikiri that Kakashi had created—once Sasuke masters these Jutsu under Kakashi’s tutelage, the young Uchiha boy’s strength will definitely increase.
When Kuroto presented his thoughts to Kakashi and requested him to train the young Uchiha until his strength surpassed the level of a Jonin’s strength, the Hokage’s Hand did not understand the Hokage’s purpose. Even if Sasuke had awakened the three-tomoe Sharingan, he was still in the academy and won’t graduate for the next few months. So, he couldn’t understand why Kuroto wanted to speed up Sasuke’s training and development.
What’s more, Kuroto wanted him to stimulate Sasuke’s nerves by mocking and belittling the Uchiha Clan. Initially, Kakashi did not understand Kuroto’s reasons, but now that he saw Sasuke’s fighting spirit burning brighter and brighter, and his Sharingan became colder and colder, Kakashi started to understand Kuroto’s intentions.‘A shinobi needs motivation, and protecting the honor of the Uchiha Clan seems to be the motivation of Uchiha Sasuke,’ concluded Kakashi as he looked at the boy.
“Kakashi-sama, although you are a very strong and respectable person, if you mock my Clan and underestimate us, you will pay a price!” After making such a declaration, Sasuke took out two Kunai from his Shinobi bag and dashed toward Kakashi while capturing the other party’s movement with his Sharingan.
‘Yes, it’s exactly as I guessed.’ Mocking the Uchiha Clan had stimulated Sasuke, and suddenly his movement improved. This time Kakashi clearly felt that he was not facing a rookie still in the Ninja Academy, but a veteran Shinobi willing to put his life on the line.
“I will protect the honor of the Clan, and I will defeat you just like Otou-san defeated you!” shouted Sasuke as he leaped at Kakashi.
“No doubt about it… he is just like me when I was young,” muttered Kakashi to himself while parrying Sasuke’s attacks. Back when he was small, his father Hatake Sakumo committed suicide because his actions of saving his comrades and putting companions over the mission were heavily criticized. The village suffered heavy losses because of his father’s decision, and he became a subject of ire. Even the people who were protected by his father, even the people whose lives were saved by his father, criticized his father’s decision.
His father couldn’t bear the loss of honor and chose to commit Seppuku. At that time, he was too young and couldn’t understand his father’s decisions. Since his father’s decision was frowned upon, he made sure to always put the mission above everything else, even his companions. It was only a few years later that he realized just how wrong he was and how right his father was.
‘Those who break the rules are scum, but those who abandon their friends are worse than scum!’ These words saved him from that path.
Ding!Ding!Ding! Ding!
In Sasuke, Kakashi sees his younger self. Sasuke’s reasons may be different, but his motivations seem to be similar, ‘He wishes to redeem Uchiha Fugaku’s reputation!’
While Kakashi was busy analyzing Sasuke’s character and motivations, Sasuke started to weave one-handed hand signs.
Of course, Kakashi recognized the hand signs, ‘This one is… it’s Fireball Jutsu.’ And immediately weaved single-handed hand signs as well.
‘Fire Style: Fire Ball Jutsu!’
‘Earth Style: Earth Wall Jutsu!’
The two performed their Jutsu at the same time.
BOOM!
An explosion occurred as Sasuke’s Fire Ball Jutsu collided with Kakashi’s Earth Wall Jutsu, dust and smoke covered the field, disrupting their field of vision. Using dust and smoke to his advantage, Sasuke once again dashed toward Kakashi with Kunai in both his hands.
His Sharingan seems to have the ability to see chakra even through the smoke and dust, therefore, he was able to accurately spot Kakashi. Noting that the Hokage Hand’s back was turned toward him, a mocking smirk appeared on Sasuke’s face as he muttered to himself, “Is this the best that the Hokage’s Hand can do?”
The Kunai glowing with cold light approached Kakashi. Sasuke smirked and shifted his movement a little to avoid Kakashi’s vitals, but he had no qualms about injuring Kakashi, thinking, ‘This is the price you will pay for mocking the Uchiha Clan and underestimating us!’
However, just before the cold metal of the Kunai could pierce through Kakashi’s body, the silver-haired shinobi turned around at lightning speed and grabbed Sasuke’s hand that was holding the Kunai.
Taken aback, Sasuke questioned incredulously, “How? How did you do that? It shouldn’t have been possible!” Kakashi’s movement was fast, almost beyond human capability. Even with his three tomoe Sharingan, Sasuke couldn’t fully capture and process the speed with which Kakashi turned around.
Kakashi chuckled, “If this is enough to shock you, then you are far too delusional about your strength. I haven’t even gotten serious so far.” And threw Sasuke away like a rag.
Smash!
Sasuke collided with a tree, feeling sore. He tried to get up once again but staggered halfway and fell once more.
Kakashi walked over to Sasuke, crouched down beside him, sighed, and shook his head in disappointment. “You do have some talent, but it’s only ‘so-so,’ nothing special. Compared to Yondaime Hokage Namikaze Minato, who was Jiraiya-sama’s previous disciple, you are nothing.”
Internally, Kakashi recognized that Sasuke’s strength and tactical skills were quite good. Despite being only a little over eleven, the boy’s strength was already reaching the level of a Special Jonin. All he needed was combat experience, and he might even reach the level of an Elite Jonin soon enough.
“Well, this was a disappointment,” muttered Kakashi as he took out a little orange book from his pocket and started to leave the training field. Just before he disappeared, Kakashi made sure to inform Sasuke, “Be here tomorrow. Although this is a tedious thing since I have been ordered by the Hokage and Jiraiya-sama, I have no other choice but to do this.”
“Damn it!” Watching Kakashi leave, Sasuke smashed his fist on the ground. He was unwilling to accept such humiliation, thinking, ‘Just wait, next time I will make you eat your words!’
