Chapter 1095: Deidara vs Karatachi Tamako
The first match between Naruto and Shira ignited the atmosphere in the Colosseum. Even after both fighters had left the arena, the cheers from the stands continued to echo. The audience had been treated to a spectacle of rare techniques—Naruto’s Pseudo Jinchūriki Mode and Shira’s Seven Heavenly Breaths—that most had never witnessed before.
While the crowd was still buzzing from the intense battle, the ninja quickly repaired the arena in preparation for the next match. Itachi then announced, “Deidara of Iwagakure and Karatachi Tamako of Kirigakure… please step forward!”
Having seen the unexpectedly strong performances in the previous match, Kurotsuchi advised with some unease, “Be careful, Deidara. The opponent is the Mizukage’s daughter. She won’t be easy to defeat.”
But Deidara, unphased by Kurotsuchi’s concern, confidently made his way to the arena, dismissing her words with, “Doesn’t matter, hm. I’ll use her to showcase my art.”
Meanwhile, Tamako gracefully jumped down from the Kirigakure waiting area and landed in the arena. As she did, Suigetsu and Chōjūrō wished her luck. “Hime-sama, do your best.”
“Of course, I’m going to win,” Tamako responded with determination.
Suigetsu, though supportive, had his doubts. Deidara was no pushover; he was one of Iwagakure’s strongest, but he chose to keep his concerns to himself.
As both contestants entered the arena, the crowd erupted in cheers once again. Deidara, a disciple of the Sandaime Tsuchikage and a fan favorite, had a strong chance of winning the entire tournament. On the other side was Karatachi Tamako, the daughter of the Mizukage, a figure who naturally commanded attention.
Itachi gave a quick glance at the competitors, explained the rules, and confirmed that both were ready. With a clear, “Begin!” he signaled the start of the match and swiftly exited the arena using the Body Flicker Jutsu.
Immediately after, several Konoha ninjas from the barrier division surrounded the arena and activated the Four Purple Flame Formation, ensuring that whatever unfolded inside would not impact the audience. At the same time, Karatachi Tamako began weaving hand signs for a Water Style Jutsu.
Seeing this, Deidara grinned and muttered, “Well then…” He quickly reached into his Shinobi Bag and tossed out a small Clay Bird. Poof! The clay bird expanded upon landing, transforming into a larger version with a puff of white smoke. Deidara jumped onto its back and laughed, “I’ll use this opportunity to showcase my art!”
“Oh no, you don’t!” Tamako shouted as she completed her hand signs and unleashed her Jutsu, ‘Water Style: Water Severing Wave!’ Instantly, a high-pressure stream of water shot from her mouth, slicing through the air toward Deidara. She knew that if he took to the sky, she would be at a serious disadvantage without a means to fly, so she had to stop him.
“Hm? You think you can stop me with this? How naive!” Deidara scoffed. He swiftly leaped backward, distancing himself from Tamako. Although her Water Severing Wave destroyed the Clay Bird in an explosion, Deidara remained unfazed. Performing several backflips, he again reached into his Shinobi Bag and threw out a swarm of tiny ant-sized clay creations. “Let’s go, C1: Ants!” The tiny clay ants immediately burrowed into the ground upon landing, disappearing from sight.
“Hm?” Tamako mumbled, frowning as she watched the ants vanish underground. A sense of unease crept over her. Trusting her instincts, she used the Water Clone Replacement Technique, moving herself further back and leaving a Water Clone in her place. The moment she did, the ground beneath her exploded, instantly destroying the clone.
“What the hell?” Tamako muttered, her eyes twitching as she scanned the arena with a vigilant gaze. She realized that the explosion was caused by one of the tiny clay ants Deidara had thrown earlier. Since she saw him toss out many, she knew the rest were still buried beneath the arena.
“Hahaha… the entire arena is filled with landmines, just as you guessed, girl! Now… what are you going to do?” Deidara taunted, laughing as he watched Tamako.
“Moron!” Tamako cursed under her breath. She raised her head and noticed that while she was busy retreating and figuring out what Deidara had done, he had already created another Clay Bird and was now circling the Colosseum from above.
…
At the VIP stands
“Covering the entire arena with landmines and taking to the sky? Unless the girl has mastery over Lightning Style to neutralize Earth Style or has a method of flight, there’s no way she can win this fight,” Raikage remarked, folding his arms over his chest.
Ōnoki chuckled in agreement, “That seems to be the case.” He too believed that unless Karatachi Tamako could fly, she was already at a severe disadvantage. The landmines Deidara created weren’t stationary; they were mobile clay ants. Even if she stood still, the mines would simply move toward her.
Without a way to sense or see the explosive clay ants underground, predicting their movements would be nearly impossible. And even if she could somehow anticipate their movements, without using Lightning Style, she couldn’t neutralize the threat.
Based on what Ōnoki knew about the Mizukage’s daughter, she lacked the ability to fly and had little understanding of Lightning Style, which made the outcome seem all but certain.
However, ‘Kuroto’ shook his head, “No, that’s not necessarily true. There are many ways to handle this situation… it just depends on whether she can think of them.”
“Huh?” Both Tsuchikage and Raikage turned to ‘Kuroto’ in surprise, wondering what he meant, but he remained stoic and didn’t elaborate.
Pakura, on the other hand, glanced at the Mizukage and asked, “What do you think, Mizukage-dono? Will she be able to deal with the mobile landmines?”
The Mizukage shrugged, “How should I know?”
Pakura’s lips twitched in frustration, thinking to herself, ‘Isn’t she your daughter? If you don’t know, then who does?’ Shaking her head, she turned her attention back to the arena.
…
At the arena
After pondering for a moment while Deidara stood confidently on his Clay Bird, assuming the fight was nearly over, Tamako’s eyes lit up with realization. ‘I know what to do,’ she thought and immediately began weaving hand signs. She then released her Jutsu, “Water Style: Water Colliding Wave!”
A massive vortex of water formed around Tamako and erupted upwards, flooding the entire arena with a powerful wave. “That’s better,” she muttered as she stood atop the water, chakra flowing beneath her shinobi sandals to keep her balanced. The arena was now filled with half a meter of water, rendering the landmines useless. Even if the underground clay ants exploded, the water would absorb much of the impact, and any damage would be minimal. Additionally, as the water filled the underground tunnels where the ants were burrowing, the explosive clay would become less effective, making the blasts weaker.
“Interesting,” Deidara muttered, raising an eyebrow, impressed by Tamako’s clever strategy.
“Humph, there’s more where that came from,” Tamako retorted with a snort, forming more hand signs. Suddenly, several whirls appeared on the water’s surface, and before anyone could react, high-pressure water jets shot toward Deidara. “Water Style: Water Severing Wave!”
“Huh?” Deidara was taken aback and quickly maneuvered his Clay Bird to dodge the high-pressure jets as they zipped through the air.
“Damn it, how is he dodging all of them?” Tamako muttered in frustration.
It would have been understandable if one or two of the jets missed, but all of them did. Tamako felt something was off, but the truth was simpler: Deidara’s reaction speed and agility were exceptional, allowing him to effortlessly evade her attacks. This realization began to annoy her.
“Is that all you’ve got?” Deidara taunted as he molded several small clay birds.
Tamako snorted in defiance. “If you have the guts, then come down here!”
“Humph! This isn’t a child’s game,” Deidara retorted, mocking her attempt to bait him. He removed his left hand from his shinobi bag, releasing several clay birds that flapped their wings and rushed toward Tamako. Meanwhile, a different clay creation lay ready in his right hand, waiting for the perfect moment to be unleashed.
“Crap!” Tamako panicked and quickly used the Water Severing Wave to destroy the incoming clay birds. But to her dismay, the birds dodged her attacks one after another, closing in on her. Seeing the dozen clay birds approaching, she felt a surge of anxiety. ‘It seems I have to use Otou-san’s Jutsu!’ she thought and hurriedly began weaving hand signs. She unleashed, “Water Style: Water Mirror Jutsu!”
Instantly, a reflective mirror made of water appeared before her. From the mirror, identical clay birds, like mirror reflections of the originals, emerged and collided with Deidara’s creations. Boom! Boom! Boom! Explosions echoed throughout the arena as water splashed violently against the pavement.
As the explosions rang out, Deidara grinned and released the creation he had prepared in his right hand. It fell into the water with a quiet plop, unnoticed by Tamako amidst the chaos.
Believing she had successfully countered Deidara’s attack, Tamako dispersed the water mirror, not wanting to waste any more chakra. She breathed a sigh of relief. “Humph, I’m not that easy to defeat,” she declared, searching for Deidara. “Next, I’ll take you down…” But as she prepared to weave more hand signs, she found herself unable to lift her arms.
“Huh?” Startled, Tamako looked down and saw a white centipede coiled around her body, binding her tightly. Panic surged through her. “Aaaaahhhh… It’s… it’s a centipede!” she screamed at the top of her lungs before losing consciousness out of sheer terror, collapsing to the ground.
Tamako’s sudden collapse stunned everyone including the other participants, the audience, and the judges. Deidara was certainly not an exception. “Huh? That’s it? She passed out?” he muttered in disbelief.
Itachi entered the arena to check on Tamako. After confirming she was unconscious, he announced, “The winner of this match is Iwagakure’s Deidara!”
“What’s up with that? I didn’t even get to display my art,” Deidara pouted in dissatisfaction, shaking his head as he returned to the waiting room.

Kirigakure’s Waiting Room
As the match result was announced, Suigetsu sighed, “It seems the secret that Hime-sama is terrified of centipedes has been leaked, and Deidara of Iwagakure somehow got hold of this information.”
