Reborn into Naruto World with Tenseigan

Chapter 1003: The Bell Test

Third Training Ground, Konohagakure

Naruto waved his fists excitedly, and questioned, “Kakashi-sensei… when are we going to start taking missions?” and added after a pause, “I want to quickly be promoted…”

Although Sasuke had crossed his arms over his chest and did not speak, he was also looking at Kakashi with an eager expression. He failed to graduate as the top trainee of the year at the academy, the only way he can think of going forward is by performing well in missions and quickly becoming a strong and capable ninja.

Naturally, Mika was also looking forward to performing the missions. She had spent her childhood inside a dungeon at one of the root bases, and once she was rescued, she lived with her aunt. Because of the adventure tales she has read about the wider world out there, she is looking forward to traveling and exploring the world. Performing missions all over the world presents her with that opportunity.

Instead of directly answering Naruto’s question, Kakashi posed another question, “Did you follow my instructions?”

All three children held their stomachs with pitiful expressions, and nodded, “Yes.”

Looking at their pitiful expressions, Kakashi smiled brightly, “Very good.” Then he took out an alarm clock, set the timer, and after placing it on top of a wooden stake he added, “Right now, it’s nine o’clock … and the alarm would ring at twelve o’clock sharp.”

“Okay?” the three Genins looked at the alarm clock on the wooden stake with a confused expression.

Naruto questioned, “Kakashi-sensei, why are you setting up an alarm?”

To answer Naruto’s doubts, Kakashi took out two bells from his pocket and showed them to the three newly graduated Genins, “Do you see these bells?”

Naruto, Sasuke, and Mika nodded, “Yes?”

Kakashi explained, “Your assignment is very simple, all you three have to do is to take these bells from me, that’s all there is to it. If you can’t get’em by noon, you go without lunch… you’ll be tied to those posts as you watch while I eat my lunch in front of you.”

“What?” Naruto exclaimed in dissatisfaction.

“So, that’s why?” Sasuke pouted in dissatisfaction.

Mika sighed in dissatisfaction, “Why did I listen?”

Looking at the dissatisfied expression of the three children, Kakashi asked with a grin, “What? Already feeling defeated?”

Sasuke snorted, “Humph, just because I am a little hungry doesn’t mean I am defeated.”

Naruto agreed with Sasuke, “All we have to do is grab the bell, right? Once we do that, we will be able to have our lunch!”

The two didn’t care too much about being hungry, they were confident in their strength to be able to grab the bell. Mika was a little hesitant as she asked, “But Kakashi-Sensei, you have only two bells… there’s three of us here…”

Naruto pointed at Kakashi, and laughed, “Yes, Kakashi-Sensei there’s three of us here, did you forget a bell or something? Man, you are really careless.”

Sasuke also looked at Kakashi, and questioned, “What are you playing at Kakashi-Sensei?” The moment he noticed that Kakashi only had two bells and realized that there was something odd about the situation. Knowing Kakashi, he didn’t think that there were just two bells for no reason.

Kakashi ignored Naruto’s foolishness and instead looked at Sasuke and Mika, and explained, “There are only two bells because, in this manner, at least one of you gets tied to the post and ultimately gets disqualified for failing to complete the mission. That person will be sent back to the academy for retraining.”

Hearing the terms, Naruto, Sasuke, and Mika’s expressions turned solemn.

Kakashi smiled, and continued, “You are free to use all your abilities except for your large Summons, of course, I won’t be using Flying Raijin, Eight Inner Gates, and other very difficult & complex Jutsu either which should be enough of a handicap… Come at me with the intent to kill, otherwise you won’t stand a chance.”

Sasuke, Mika, and Naruto looked at Kakashi with serious expression. They could see that Kakashi wasn’t playing around. Neither of the three doubted his words about ‘not standing a chance.’ They have witnessed his strength during the Hokage Summit, so they know that if Kakashi goes all out, they will be defeated instantly.

Seeing that the three Genins were serious, Kakashi nodded to himself, “Good,” then he tied the two bells at his waist and said, “Alright then… start!”

Forgotten Island, somewhere close to the Land of Lightning

Poof

With a cloud of smoke, Kuroto arrived at the island and made his way to the small facility at the center of the island. As he approached the facility, Kasa (Sandaime Kazekage puppet) was already waiting for him. The puppet bowed, and spoke in a mechanical voice, “Kuroto-sama.”

Kuroto nodded lightly and asked Kasa, “How is ‘it’ doing?”

Kasa passed him a notebook while explaining, “I have recorded the observation data in this notebook… Reading this should help you understand…”

“Hmm,” mumbled Kuroto as he took the notebook from Kasa and read the observation data. Soon, his brows turned into a frown, and he sighed, “I see… it’s not going to work the way I wanted it to, even if the puppet is now loyal to the organization, this puppet does need a master for it to function properly, huh?”

The Observation data was about Satori, the puppet of the Box of Bliss.

Not long ago, Kuroto attempted to control Satori. Not only did he want to deal with the problem of the Box of Bliss & its puppet so that it doesn’t harm Konoha a third time, but he also wanted to turn that puppet into something useful for the organization to make up for the lack of people. With the help of Shisui’s Kotoamatsukami, although he managed to gain Satori’s loyalty, however, it turns out that Satori truly is only a puppet, and just like any puppet in the world, it needs someone to pull its strings for it to work.

Normally, the Box of Bliss is the one pulling the strings, it controls Satori to do its bidding on an instinctual level as the creature itself doesn’t have a will of its own, however, now that Satori has become loyal to Amatsukami because of Shisui’s Kotoamatsukami, it’s not instinctual anymore.

Of course, Satori is still connected to the Box of Bliss, as Kuroto hasn’t really destroyed that box yet, but it’s not being controlled by the box anymore, and here comes a problem, since Satori itself doesn’t have a will, therefore, it is not capable of completing complex tasks.

To make Satori perform complex tasks, it needs a puppeteer.

“It seems I have to take a different approach for this…” muttered Kuroto as he looked at the motionless boy sitting on the other side of the room. He turned to Kasa, “Continue to watch Satori… I will be back soon.”

Kasa nodded, “Very well,”

Kuroto then left the forgotten island and made his way to the flying fortress Ancor Vantian.
