Chapter 1980: Chapter 1974: An Irrefutable Reason
"Take care of yourself," Jing Xin called out as he watched Jing Peng’s retreating figure, after a moment of silence.
"Got it, you too." Jing Peng felt a twinge of sourness in his eyes at these words, waved his hand, and left without turning back.
As he turned to head back to the research institute, he was informed that there was mail for him in the mailroom. He went to pick it up and discovered it was from Jing Yuan, addressed to him and his wife Fang Xiu.
He hadn’t intended to read it, but after thinking it over, he decided to open the letter. After reading its contents, he finally understood why Jing Peng had come to find him earlier. It turned out Jing Yuan had left, and no one knew where she had gone. The letter simply said she had made a mistake and hoped he could pass on her apologies to Fang Xiu, expressing she shouldn’t have been so selfish.
After Jing Xin had read the letter, he refolded it and placed it back in the envelope, then returned wearily to his dormitory. He hadn’t expected so many things to happen in the Jing family. Such matters were indeed unacceptable to the conventional society. It’s good that she left, though he still hoped for her safety. Despite all the excessive things she had done, after twenty years of being siblings, he still didn’t want her to encounter any danger.
Back at Qin Xue’s place, the couple was busy in the kitchen. Today’s dinner included An Hao as an extra guest, so Qin Xue added a bit more rice.
"Will it all be eaten?" Chu Molin asked as he watched Qin Xue’s actions.
"An Hao is dining at our place, Xiao Qi might come too, so let’s cook a bit more. Whatever’s left can be stored," Qin Xue explained.
"Hmm," Chu Molin only nodded, not having known An Hao was coming for dinner until now.
"Chu Molin, Yingying is gone. If Xiao Qi asks, what should I tell him?" Qin Xue paused from washing the rice and looked at Chu Molin.
"Why?" Chu Molin continued sorting vegetables without stopping.
"I don’t know, she didn’t leave any words. Uncle said she went to pay respects to her late mother, but I feel that’s not entirely the case. However, since Yingying didn’t say, I have no idea what the reason is," Qin Xue worried, thinking about how to explain if Xiao Qi asked later.
"Just tell it like it is," Chu Molin looked up at Qin Xue.
"Alright, I guess that’s the only way." Qin Xue felt helpless. What else could she do? No one knew where she was, even if she wanted to find her, she couldn’t.
Moreover, in the previous life, Nangong Beiying’s work was of a unique nature. If she did such a thing, no one would ever find her unless she decided to reveal herself.
"Qin Xue, I’m here," An Hao announced as she came in carrying some foodstuffs.
"An Hao, you did not have to bring anything," Qin Xue said upon hearing An Hao’s voice. She stepped out of the kitchen and saw An Hao carrying bags into the house.
"It’s for the kids, to celebrate that your family has gained another son." An Hao had just learned that Cohen was now Qin Xue and Chu Molin’s son, and thought it necessary to celebrate.
"Your logic is too strong for me to argue with. Fine then, help yourself to some water, my hands are covered in flour," Qin Xue said, looking at the flour on her hands, resigning to let An Hao help herself.
"No problem, it’s not my first time here. I’m not going to stand on ceremony." An Hao set the bags on the table and smiled.
"Just know this, next time don’t bring anything. There’s more food here than we can eat," Qin Xue said, pointing to a platter on the table filled with various snacks like candied fruit and jerky.
"So much tasty stuff. Pack some for me later, I’ll take it back for my daughter’s teething." An Hao recalled how her daughter’s drool had soaked her clothes in an instant, and only then did the grandmother reveal it was because her gums were itching from teething.
