Chapter 265: Ch 264: Once you reach a conclusion
Leon’s words made sense, and they were noble. But the outcome was the worst thing that could have possibly happened.
Iris did not care if Leon did what he did to help Kael or if he did it in order to absolve himself of any sins. All she knew was that she had lost Kael, and she needed to get him back at all costs.
’What am I going to do if Kael never comes back? I cannot lose him after all this. He’s the only thing that’s keeping me together.’
For the first time since coming back in time, Iris felt helpless, and she wanted to scream.
It did not help that Leon was unwilling to help her out or even look in her direction. It made her unnecessarily angry at what was going on.
"Fine! If you are not going to be concerned about this, then I am done with you as well. I will find people who will actually care about this situation with me."
Iris turned around, and Leon had a feeling she was out to cause trouble. So he immediately tried to block her way out.
"Where do you think you are going?"
"To the temple. I am going to inform Seraphina and Elena of what you just did, and we are going to do our best to bring Kael back. If you are going to sit back, then we no longer need you."
Iris declared, and before Leon could stop her and reason with her, he was attacked by Iris.
Iris attacked with her sword, and Leon was barely fast enough to counter her blade. But luckily, he was able to stop her in time before he could get injured.
"Hey, you-!"
"If you are going to be a problem for me, then I would rather have you knocked unconscious."
Iris told Leon, and something hard collided with his head from behind. Iris sighed as she released her aura, and the table fell down beside Leon.
She knew that he wouldn’t die from this. But he wouldn’t be able to get up after sustaining such a heavy injury either.
"I should get going. Both Seraphina and Elena will have to help me get Kael back."
It was not even a matter of not getting Kael back at this point. Iris had already tasted Kael’s sweetness, and she was addicted.
She was unwilling to have him leave or have the corruption take him away.
If needed, she was ready to sacrifice herself and the others if it meant that Kael would get to live once more.

...
Kael looked at the messages the world magic had sent to him with a muted expression. He had no idea how or why Iris had been affected or why the world magic chose to use her title and name compared to everyone else.
But he had a feeling that her lack of trust in him had something to do with this.
And this time, he could not even fault her because he had decided to play the hero and walk into the corruption’s portal without thinking much.
Even he was beginning to feel sorry for himself as his breathing became more and more labored by the second.
"How much further..."
He tried to ask, only to have the corruption sigh and look back at him.
/You are a rather impatient person. I can tell that you are used to getting your way in life. Still, learning to have some patience would be a good idea. Have you ever tried it?/
The corruption asked, and Kael felt like he wanted to hit it.
’Tsk, I have been nothing but patient during both of my lives. Maybe you should understand that the reason I am impatient has to do with you?’
Of course, these words did not leave his lips and simply existed in his mind. The corruption could not read his mind, but it still seemed to know what he was not telling it.
/Anyway, we are here. This is the first step of creation and the place where it all began. But I must warn you—once you know the truth, there will be no way to forget about it. And there will be no way to get out of its influence either. Thus, it would be better if you start to understand it. Do you still wish to continue knowing this fact?/
The corruption asked in a quiet voice.
There was no other sound around them other than the corruption’s whispers and Kael’s breathing.
He was not being influenced by anything else, and any decision he was about to make was his own.
And that was why he took a deep breath before making his decision.
"Don’t worry! I already know what I need to do here. I decided to know the truth of this world, and I am not going to back down."
Kael told the corruption, and it nodded.
/Well, you made your choice. Now, whatever conclusion you reach will be your own. But I do hope you will look at the history with an unbiased perspective./
The corruption told Kael, but he doubted he would be able to do that.
He was already biased against corruption. But that was not all! Kael also had a personal vendetta against the corruption for the way it had destroyed his world and his friends.
Kael could never come to like it in his life...
But just because he could never like it did not mean he could never come to understand it. And that was where he made the mistake of letting his emotions do the work for him. And soon, he realized that it would have been better for his mental health if he had never known anything.
