Chapter 521 - 519: Saving the Person
Chapter 521: Chapter 519: Saving the Person
Taoist Companion marks appeared on Aeron’s and Nerida’s foreheads, then faded from sight. From that moment on, the two were officially Taoist Companions.
They could now clearly sense each other’s presence; a brand of the other’s Primordial Spirit had been imprinted upon their own. This was something that would never disappear, no matter how many times they reincarnated. As long as one’s Primordial Spirit remained undestroyed, the other could always find them through the Taoist Companion brand.
"This is wonderful, my wife."
Aeron took her hand, a smile spreading across his face. He was finally Nerida’s Taoist Companion. He felt blissful at that moment, but it was a fleeting happiness.
Nerida pulled him into a tight embrace.
"I won’t let you die."
Her gaze was resolute and her tone solemn as she spoke. "I will use a Secret Technique to keep your Primordial Spirit by my side. After that, I’ll find a way to resurrect you."
"Okay. I’ll do as you say."
Aeron gave a slight nod.
Of course, he wanted to be with her forever, but Aeron knew that the backlash from a Divine Artifact’s power would leave no Primordial Spirit behind. The fate awaiting him was the complete disintegration of his Primordial Spirit.
She looked at Aeron and said, "I’m sorry you have to go through this."
She gently laid him down, his body resting on the edge of the nearby altar. Her hands formed a series of seals as she cast her Magic, trying to gather his Primordial Spirit. It was at that moment, as the Magic settled upon him, that Nerida discovered his Primordial Spirit was already disintegrating.
The color drained from her face, and her legs gave out, causing her to fall to her knees beside him. Her eyes widened in disbelief.
Tears streamed down Nerida’s cheeks.
Watching as the man’s breath grew ever fainter, she murmured in a low voice.
"No... why won’t it collect? Why is your Primordial Spirit disintegrating?"
"What have I done?"
She raised her hands, her gaze falling upon them. In that instant, she even wondered if she had used the wrong Magic and caused this herself.
"Aeron... Aeron..."
She quickly pulled him into her arms, calling his name anxiously. But blood trickled from the corner of Aeron’s mouth, and his breathing grew ever weaker. He raised a hand to gently caress her cheek.
"Nerida."
His voice was faint. As the word left his lips, his hand slowly slipped from her cheek, and his eyes gradually closed. His hand fell to the ground beside them.
"AAAAHH... NO..."
"Aeron... Aeron..."
"Wake up... Wake up... Get up... Don’t go to sleep, don’t leave me."
In her hundreds of years of Cultivation.
This was the first time she had ever felt so utterly helpless.
Clutching his body, she looked up at the sky and screamed.
"Madam... Madam... The Exalted One, help me... The Exalted One, please save him!"
’If only The Exalted One were here. If only Madam and the others were here, this would be fine.’
’If The Exalted One and the others were here, Aeron surely wouldn’t have to die. But how do I get out of here? How can I possibly escape this place?’
"The Exalted One..."
Just as she was sinking into despair, a voice echoed from the void.
"Nerida, I’m not dead yet. Are you performing a séance?"
At the sound of this voice, Nerida’s head snapped up.
Her eyes were now filled with a mixture of surprise and hope.
She looked up at the sky but saw no one. Still, she recognized the voice—that venomous tone could only belong to The Exalted One, without a doubt.
"The Exalted One... is that you?"
She glanced down at the man in her arms, her expression desperate. "This is my Taoist Companion. He’s dying! Please, The Exalted One, save him!"
The voice continued from the void. "Nerida, we haven’t seen each other in a while, and you’ve already made such a mess of things. If word of this gets out, I’ll lose face."
Nerida looked up at the sky, her expression frantic. "Is now really the time to worry about face? Hurry up and save him!"
"Relax. Just for your sake, I won’t let this brat die." As he spoke, a phantasmal figure materialized in the sky.
The newcomer was, of course, Javier Sinclair. However, he was not physically present; it was merely a Divine Thought. That was why Nerida could only see a phantasmal figure.
He stood suspended in mid-air, his gaze directed toward Nerida’s location.
Javier Sinclair raised a hand, palm up. At the same time, an invisible force lifted the man from Nerida’s arms, raising him into the air.
He extended his hand, aiming his palm at Aeron’s body as it floated in the air. Power condensed in his palm and flowed directly into Aeron’s body.
Javier Sinclair severed the backlash from the Divine Artifact’s power, then repaired Aeron’s body and Primordial Spirit. He even replenished his depleted Cultivation and vitality. After all, this man was Nerida’s husband; he couldn’t just let his Cultivation drop until he was a total weakling.
The first thing to change was his face, which returned to its former youthful appearance. His hair, which had turned mostly white, instantly reverted to black.
As Aeron lay suspended in the air, his consciousness slowly returned. He could feel that his once-disintegrating Primordial Spirit had been condensed and repaired, and the Cultivation his body had lost was also restored.
’What’s going on? Can you still feel like this after you die?’
He wiggled his fingers, then clenched his hand into a fist.
He could feel his body brimming with Spiritual Power; this was nothing like the feeling of being on the verge of death.
Aeron opened his eyes.
Before him was a clear sky. He could see clouds overhead, and in the distance, a Spirit Bird flew slowly past.
He took a deep breath.
’I can still breathe.’
’I’m not dead.’
Just as he was staring blankly, a voice sounded beside his ear. "If you’re awake, get up. Stop playing dead."
The voice was deep and unfamiliar, yet it possessed an immense authority. Aeron’s expression faltered, and he hastily stood up in mid-air. When he raised his head, he saw a figure standing not far away—no, a phantasmal figure, to be precise.
Getting a clear look at the newcomer, Aeron froze for a moment.
’This person’s aura is incredible. He’s not releasing any discernible pressure, yet I can sense his immense power.’
’I’m no match for him.’
He wasn’t sure if he was mistaken, but the man’s aura, and those eyes... when his gaze casually swept over him, Aeron felt as if a Demon God had descended upon the world. It was terrifying.
"Who are you?"
Javier Sinclair merely glanced at him and said flatly, "An ally."
Before Aeron could speak again, Javier gave a casual wave of his hand. Aeron felt himself fall backward, plummeting toward the ground. Just as he was about to land, someone grabbed his shoulder, allowing him to regain his footing.
Nerida looked at the man standing alive before her, her eyes filled with unconcealable relief.
She grabbed his arm, her eyes scanning him from head to toe. When she took his wrist, she could feel a strong, steady pulse.
"Are you really okay?"
"Your vitality and Cultivation are both restored... There’s nothing wrong at all. Aeron, you’re really all right now."
She smiled at him, the joy on her face impossible to hide.
He looked at Nerida, equally baffled. He raised his hand. "How am I not dead? The backlash from the Divine Artifact was about to destroy my Primordial Spirit. How am I perfectly fine?"
Aeron’s face was a mask of disbelief; he couldn’t believe he was still standing there, perfectly fine.
