Perfect Villain Life: Universal Job Change

Chapter 289: No Mercy for the Elderly

Chapter 289: No Mercy for the Elderly

“Even if you’re a demigod, aren’t you being a little too arrogant, young man?” Modric could no longer conceal the fury on his face. “The Holy Spear Family carries the bloodline of the Dragon Veins. We are the most noble house in the entire universe. Are you provoking our entire family?”

In that moment, a terrifying aura burst forth from Modric, pressure rolling across the grand hall like a raging storm.

Yet Qin Xian’s face still wore that same arrogant smile. “And what if I am provoking the Holy Spear Family? Modric, it’s your side that’s been acting high and mighty.”

His divine aura exploded in return. Radiant light surged from his armor, and his six wings of holy light spread wide. He stood tall, like a celestial god descending upon the mortal world. No—at this moment, he truly was a god.

As Qin Xian raised his sword and pointed it directly at Modric, light and holy power gathered around him like a divine storm.

The scene was nothing short of awe-inspiring, so much so that even veteran knights and priests of the light system felt a stir in their hearts, their knees trembling with the urge to kneel in worship.

Seeing the two locked in a deadly standoff, everyone in the hall froze, expressions changing dramatically. Many turned toward Qin Xian with newfound reverence.

While they had heard rumors that he had killed the dragon knight commander Edward—a terrifying 9-star powerhouse—it had all sounded like hearsay. But now, for the first time, they were witnessing his divine might with their own eyes.

Modric’s expression flickered slightly. He had indeed come today with the intent to pressure Qin Xian. Ever since the death of his grandson Zaal and the aftermath that humiliated the Holy Spear Family, their reputation had taken a nosedive.

Killing Zaal without consequence? No recompense? No apology? Not even a gesture of goodwill?

It was a slap in the face to the family’s prestige. Modric had hoped that by showing some force, Qin Xian would back down, perhaps offer a token apology, and they could save face.

After all, he had loved Zaal—but the boy was only one of dozens of grandsons. His death wasn’t worth igniting a civil war.

But he hadn’t expected Qin Xian to be this defiant. Not only did he refuse to concede, he stood tall and fought back with overwhelming divine might. Now Modric found himself on the back foot.

His hands trembled in fury. He couldn’t understand it.

‘I’m a senior of this world, a revered elder. What’s wrong with expressing a bit of anger?’ He thought bitterly. ‘This so-called Soren—half-god or not—is just a junior. Why couldn’t he just give me a little respect?’

‘If he’d just stepped back, I could’ve accepted it. Everyone walks away with their pride. What’s the harm in letting the old man save face? But no—he just had to go full tilt. Is taking a little hit to your pride really so unbearable?’

Worse still, Modric could sense just how powerful Qin Xian was. The pressure radiating off him wasn’t something he could confidently suppress. The young man might actually be stronger than him.

At that moment, Rosha finally stepped forward. “Enough,” his voice was heavy with command. “Modric, Soren. Stop this now.”

His tone carried the weight of the world. “The Void Legion is watching us from beyond our borders. The world of Hydra can no longer afford even a moment of internal strife. We must unite.”

His eyes held a flicker of anger—directed at Modric. Rosha had already made peace with Edward. They had an agreement. But now here came Modric, reigniting the flames. If not for the man’s ancient status and terrifying strength, Rosha would have already acted.

He stepped between the two and said sincerely, “As the hero of this world, I beg you both—put aside your grudges, at least for now. We’re running out of time.”

Hearing this, Modric quietly exhaled. He hadn’t really come to kill Qin Xian, just to flex a little and recover some family dignity. He gave a cold snort. “Since Lord Rosha has spoken, the Holy Spear Family will give him this face. But rest assured—our loyalty to Hydra remains unshakable.”

With that, Modric turned and left.

The tense air in the grand hall finally loosened.

After all, had Qin Xian and Modric actually fought, their battle alone could’ve leveled half the capital of the Capet Empire.

“Soren…” Rosha gave Qin Xian a slightly helpless smile. ‘This guy… he really can’t take any slights at all.’

But then again, he was the child of a god. Of course he had never been made to lower his head to anyone in his life.

With that brief storm behind them, the rest of the meeting wrapped up.

The decision was final: Hydra would strike first.

All across the continent, military forces mobilized. The world prepared for its first—and possibly final—counteroffensive.

But far away, in the heart of the palace, a rare expression of anxiety appeared on Elia’s face.

For the first time in her life, she voiced strong opposition to one of Rosha’s decisions.
