Chapter 121: The Beginning Of…
Chapter 121: The Beginning Of...
ADRIEN’S POV
I am just so tired of being tense, tired of being stressed, tired of having to run away and hide at every opportunity. I just want ease in my life. I want one moment where I do not have to fight.
I look at him, the thought slipping out before I can stop it. "I was teasing you before, but now I’m being honest... Do you want to get lucky, Orion?"
Orion pauses for a solid minute.
A series of emotions flashes across his face, moving from confusion to understanding, then back to confusion, before settling into quiet surprise.
He looks at me. "What about this situation makes you think paying me with sex would make me happy?"
"Everything," I say honestly. "Everything about this situation makes me think paying you with sex would make you happy. Who knows? If I suck your dick the right way, maybe you will remember this night and the moment you said that betrayal means nothing to you."
Orion sits on that for a moment, staring up at the moon.
Then, he sits up.
I look at him from where I am slumping on the bench. A strange sense of calm has washed over me, like I drank very strong wine. My mind feels calm, my body feels calm. I feel like whatever happens now, I will be all right with it.
At least, I feel that way until Orion turns to me.
"Instead of sucking my dick, as you put it, and giving me what you think I want," Orion says, his voice low, "is it fine if I take what I want?"
"Sure," I murmur, waving a hand. "Take whatever you want."
"No," Orion says. "That is not the way I wanted to put that."
He leans over the space between us, his large hand coming up to grab mine. His skin is warm against my fingers.
"What I need to ask is," he says, looking directly into my eyes, "is it all right if I show you what I want?"
"Sure," I whisper, my mind floating. "You can do that too. Anything you want."
And then, as I look at his face, a cold realization hits me. The entire time we were talking, I should have known I was talking to clear-headed Orion. The calm, logical one.
Because seeing how those dark eyes go from being calm to being manic in the span of a single second makes me realize that I had been talking to the wrong version this whole time.
Orion’s grip on my hand tightens. It’s firm, but it does not hurt.
"What I actually meant to say," Orion whispers, leaning in close, "is it fine if I show you something better than what you think you have prepared for me?"
A sudden flush of heat starts from the top of my head and rushes all the way to the bottom of my feet. My throat goes dry. I struggle to say the word, but it comes out anyway.
"Yes."
Orion smiles.
I cannot describe the walk to Orion’s room because I do not walk a single step. The second the word leaves my mouth, Orion lifts me into his arms in a princess carry and marches toward the mansion doors.
"Put me down!" I whisper fiercely, clutching at his shoulders as he moves. "Someone might see us!"
"It’s night," Orion says, not slowing his pace. "Even if anyone sees, what is the problem with it?"
As he carries me through the grand halls, my mind starts to race. Am I really doing this? When I said yes out in the garden, the moonlight made me feel calm and light.
Now I’m panicking. My chest tightens with every step he takes up the wide staircase.
Orion carries me all the way to his bedroom. He steps inside, and using one hand to hold my weight, he pushes the heavy wooden door shut behind us and turns the lock with a sharp click.
My heart sinks straight to my stomach. I am actually going to do this with this bloody lunatic.
How did I get here? What was I thinking out in that garden? In my next life, I am never sitting in a courtyard at night again.
People say alcohol makes people make bad decisions, but they have never felt what truly being at peace can do to a person’s brain. It makes you reckless.
With a gentleness that does not fit manic Orion at all, he carries me over to the massive bed and drops me down softly against the dark sheets.
I look up at him, my heart thudding wildly in my chest. How am I going to do this? Is he just going to tell me to pull off my clothes? No, he said he had something to show me, so he is not going to just order me around.
Is he going to hurt me?
Panic flares in my stomach as I think about my body. I still have sore spots and dark bruises from that horrible car crash. Even though it has been seven days since Orion found me and brought me here, my skin is still healing.
If this fucker goes too hard with me, we are going to have to call a doctor, and I do not want to be in pain.
I look past Orion, taking in the room. It’s massive. Everything in it screams expensive, decorated with artworks and dark wood, though nothing in it feels personal.
Then my eyes drift past his shoulder, settling on the center of the wall right above the grand fireplace.
A large painting hangs there.
I stare at it, my breath catching in my throat. It is a portrait of me.
Not Orion. Me.
I am not wearing the school uniform from our past. I am wearing simple, normal clothes. It is a full-body portrait, painted as if someone saw me standing casually on the side of a road and captured every detail on canvas.
I point a shaky finger past his head. "Am I fucking hallucinating, or is that a painting of me?"
Orion turns his head to look at the wall, then looks back down at me. "Oh yeah. I think I did that four years ago. I took up painting. It was a very nice hobby."
"And you painted a portrait of me?" I ask, my voice rising in disbelief.
I look at the canvas again. It’s painted so accurately that it looks like he spent hours mapping out my exact facial structure and body shape. It’s eerily amazing, and completely terrifying.
Orion looks back at the portrait, then shrugs. He leans down, bringing both of his hands down onto the mattress on either side of my head, trapping me beneath his shadow.
"I thought I brought you here to show you something," Orion whispers, his dark eyes locking onto mine. "Let’s not get distracted now."
My throat tightens. I swallow hard, remembering exactly why I am lying on his bed. How the fuck did I get myself into this situation?
Orion leans in and kisses me.
I brace myself, weirdly expecting it to be wild and fierce, just like the first time he kissed me in that dark janitor’s closet years ago. But it isn’t.
It’s gentle.
His lips press against mine with a slow, deliberate pressure. It feels less like he is trying to claim me or swallow my breath, and more like he is taking his sweet time to map out the exact shape of my mouth.
He kisses me slowly, deepening the angle, his breath warm against my cheek. His hands slowly shift on the mattress, his fingers brushing against my hair.
All I can think is, this is happening. We are actually going to do this. Fuck, we are actually doing this.
As if he can sense the wild storm turning inside my head, Orion lets out a soft, low laugh right into the kiss.
He pulls back just enough to look at me, his fingers moving down to gently lift my legs from the edge of the bed. He slides his other arm behind my back, lifting me effortlessly and pulling me up until I am lying right in the center of the dark sheets.
He shifts his weight, hovering over me without pressing his full body down onto my healing torso.
He looks down at my face, his dark eyes surprisingly soft.
"Adrien," he says, his voice quiet in the dim light of the room. "Is this okay? I’m going to ask again, do you really want me to do this?"
I freeze.
I stare up at him, my eyes wide. Even after asking me out in the garden, even after carrying me all the way up here, he is asking for my consent again before he touches me.
The gesture is so normal, so unexpectedly kind, that it catches in my throat.
But the thing is, I don’t know. I don’t know what I want...but I’d like to try whatever this is.
"Yes," I whisper, the word coming out clearer this time. "Yes, Orion."
He smiles, and then he lowers his head to kiss me again.
