Chapter 90/Secrets in the Wine Cellar
Chapter 90: 90/Secrets in the Wine Cellar
Chapter 90
Stephanie’s Point of View
I tried hard to gather the remnants of my shattered pride and forced myself to face reality. Speaking in an intensely tensed tone, I pressed against my vocal cords, attempting to make them sound natural and stable: "No... there is absolutely nothing."
I rose from the wooden kitchen table in blind haste, my entire body trembling secretly from the top of my head to the soles of my feet under the lingering impact of that violent pleasure and horrific terror. I glanced out of the corner of my eye at the demon, Cedric, who was lounging with utter coldness and ease in his seat. His attractive facial features stretched into a cunning, overtly triumphant smile that only deepened my wounds. The maid stared at me with wide eyes filled with confusion and bewilderment at my bizarre state. "But Mrs. Stephanie..." she asked in a worried tone, "aren’t you going to eat your dinner?"
"No... I can’t eat here," I replied in a broken, breathless voice as I moved toward the glass door with rapid, almost running steps. "Please, place it on a tray and bring it up to my room immediately."
I burst out of the kitchen like someone escaping a massive fire on the verge of consuming them. I bounded up the steps of the marble staircase leading to the upper floor, my breaths ragged and chasing one another, until I threw myself into my room like a madwoman and bolted the wooden door securely behind me. Leaning my trembling palms against the solid wood with my back pressed flat against it, I panted heavily. I felt as though my mind would explode and that I was bound to lose my sanity.
A single thought dominated my brain: I had to rid myself of Cedric’s dominance and madness. I could never allow him to subject me to this scandalous act every single time and in any place that caught his fancy!
I rushed into the bathroom immediately, shedding my disheveled clothes, and took a swift shower under the cold water, hoping it would douse the raging fires ignited within the cells of my body. When I emerged wrapped in my cotton bathrobe, I found the dinner tray neatly arranged on the small table beside the leather sofa.
I sank down in exhaustion and began eating with a fierce ravenousness, hit by a sudden hunger I had never experienced before, while my mind spun and swirled through the details of tomorrow and my new future. I whispered to myself in utter awe and an overwhelming joy that illuminated the darkness of my chest: "My God... I am finally going to work! I am getting out of this palace!" I was so incredibly excited for this step that my heart quickened with pure elation.
At that exact moment, shattering my daydream, my mobile phone rang from inside my large black handbag thrown on the floor. I snatched the phone eagerly and pressed the answer button instantly without reading the caller ID: "Hello... Kyra? Is that you?"
Her voice came through the receiver in a reproachful, disapproving tone: "Yes, Steph, it’s Kyra... Why haven’t you called me until now to reassure me? I’ve been burning with anticipation to find out what happened!"
I took a deep breath to regulate my heartbeat, saying as my mind balanced between the day’s memories: "Oh, Kyra... so many things happened, and there were surprises that were absolutely never expected."
Her tone shifted to one of anxiety and curiosity, and she asked rapidly: "What happened? Tell me right away! Did they refuse to hire you?"
A wide smile stretched across my lips, one I couldn’t hide or suppress. "Quite the contrary..." I said, my eyes gleaming. "They accepted me for the job, and I start tomorrow as an intern in the department!"
Kyra squealed with intense delight, her loud voice echoing through the phone’s speaker: "Oh, Steph! That is the most wonderful news I’ve heard! Congratulations, my dear, you truly deserve this success!"
Suddenly, my stomach knotted violently, and that smile vanished completely from my face, turning into a stark paleness as I recalled the catastrophe and the horrific situation I had lived through. "Thank you, Kyra..." I said in a heavy tone, "but a huge problem and a true disaster occurred."
Kyra’s tone turned serious. "A problem? Of what kind?"
I placed my free hand over my hot face, burning from the fatal embarrassment, and spoke in a choked voice that nearly faded away: "When I arrived at the company building, I rode the elevator with a towering, imposing man. Out of sheer nervousness, my bag slipped from my hand and burst completely open... and that scandalous toy dick you put in there for me rolled out and stopped directly at his feet!"
Kyra replied with a simplicity and coldness that provoked my fury: "Yes, and what about it? A temporary, embarrassing situation that could happen to anyone, and he’ll forget the matter."
I continued my speech, a lump choking my throat: "The worst hasn’t even come yet, Kyra... He isn’t an ordinary man or a simple employee... He is the owner of the company and my ultimate boss, Mr. Vincetti himself! And the ultimate shock is that he is a close friend of Alex’s!"
Kyra let out a massive gasp through the phone, and silence reigned for seconds before she spoke in absolute shock and bewilderment: "Stephanie, my dear... confess to me right now, did you kill someone in your past life whose evil spirit is pursuing you now to punish you and plunge you into these scandals?"
I sighed in utter despair, leaning my head back: "It truly seems that way, Kyra. Luck smiles at me, then slaps me hard across the face."
Kyra tried to alter her tone, easing the matter for me with a bit of rationality. "Very well, listen to me carefully... You must conduct yourself completely normally and naturally around him at the company. He is a prominent businessman and has no business or concern with your private life, or whether you use a real dick or a toy."
I shifted my foot on the carpet with continuous, anxious tension. "Kyra, it’s not that easy... I die of fatal embarrassment every time I remember his mocking glances at me in the recruitment office!"
She replied with absolute certainty and confidence: "Believe me, after two or three days, he will completely forget the incident... Is he going to remember you specifically and abandon his billions-worth of business and deals? He has thousands of employees and businesses that would make one’s hair turn gray."
I nodded my head in the void as if she could see me before her, a slight relief finally beginning to seep into my heart. "Yes... you are entirely right about this. Who am I in his eyes for him to remember me or occupy his mind with me? I am merely an intern."
At that exact moment, the bedroom door swung open suddenly and without a knock. Alex walked in, his massive frame and silent presence broadcasting majesty and tension throughout the space. I tensed immediately, my body stiffening. Squeezing the phone to my ear, I spoke quickly, terrified he might overhear something: "Alright, Kyra, we’ll talk tomorrow... Good night."
I ended the call instantly and tossed the phone onto the sofa. Turning my entire body toward him, I locked my sharp gaze onto his blue eyes, speaking with a defiance and suspicion I couldn’t conceal: "Alex... I find the fact that the three of you went down together into that dark cellar at this exact time to be incredibly strange and suspicious... Tell me the truth without twisting words, what were you doing down there?"
He walked a few steps with his customary coldness, removing his suit jacket and placing it down with meticulous care. Then, he looked at me with his rigid features, saying: "Stephanie... what do you think we would be doing in a wine cellar? My grandfather already told you, we were simply choosing a suitable bottle for the evening. There is no need to exaggerate things and create stories out of nothing."
I crossed my arms tightly over my chest, countering with stubborn persistence: "I don’t believe a single word of what you’re saying. Your eyes and your movements were exposing you."
He averted his gaze from me, utterly indifferent to my accusations, moving toward the mirror as he replied coldly: "That is your own problem and your illusion, not mine."
I took a step closer to him, my body taut like a wire: "Tell me... were you torturing someone inside? Does the cellar contain secret rooms for your crimes?"
He looked at me from the corner of his eye, a clear smile of mockery and derision carving itself onto his lips. "It seems you’ve been watching too many horror and mystery movies lately, and they have affected your small brain," he said.
"And why would I be imagining things?" I shot back in disapproval, tracking his movements with sharp precision and defiance. "Aren’t you mafia men who run shady businesses? What do you do in your normal day, then, if it isn’t this?"
He unbuttoned the top buttons of his shirt, removing his expensive watch and placing it on the side table. He spoke in a calm tone: "I am a businessman, Steph, and I work in an official, legal corporation a major construction and architectural firm. That is my daily work."
"Mmm... a construction firm?" I whispered skeptically, waving my hand. "Fine, but what about your real, actual work in the mafia organizations?"
He whipped around to face me suddenly, his features stern and sharp as a blade. He spoke in a decisive tone that erased all traces of his previous mockery: "That matter specifically is none of your business and does not concern you in the slightest. That work of mine is a dark, cruel world something you do not understand, and you must not know its details."
I swallowed hard with immense difficulty, feeling my throat go dry. A faint, cold shiver ran down my spine from his terrifying tone, but I dared to push forward, driven by my intense desire to know. "Do you... do you kill people in cold blood?" I asked, my voice trembling.
He locked his cold, dark, utterly humanless gaze directly into my eyes, answering with a chilling rigidity that shook my very core: "Yes... I do."
My diaphragm shuddered violently. I stared at his face, which was completely devoid of any expression or remorse, and asked in a low, lost voice filled with a curiosity blended with genuine fear: "Don’t you feel... don’t you ever feel remorse or guilt when you take a soul and do this?"
