Chapter 3104 - 3104: Epilogue (3)
The next morning, the first rays of sunlight had just peeked through the window when Yun Lintian suddenly sat up straight in bed.
His entire body was drenched in a cold sweat, his breathing ragged. His eyes were wide open, filled with a terror and pain that had not yet fully receded.
“No! Yaoyao!” he shouted hoarsely, the name tearing from his throat.
The echoes of his own voice faded in the quiet room, and he finally realized where he was. This was his own bedroom. The morning light was soft, and the sounds of the city waking up came from outside the window.
He raised a hand to his forehead, his mind a chaotic mess.
What a ridiculous dream.
In the dream, he wasn’t a high school student preparing for the national examination. He was a mercenary, codenamed “Cloud.” He had four teammates.
There was Xia Yao, codenamed “Rain,” a sharp and beautiful woman who was his beloved.
There was Lei Hao, codenamed “Lightning,” a sunny, energetic young man who always called him “Boss.”
There was Tu Feng, codenamed “Earth,” a burly, simple, and honest man.
And there was Xiao Kai, codenamed “Sky,” a man with glasses who possessed superb hacking skills and sniper talent.
In the dream, the five of them had broken into a factory that served as a base for the “Hell Church.” But it was a trap. One by one, his teammates fell.
In the end, only he and Lei Hao, who had lost both his legs, were left alive, surrounded by enemies, facing certain death.
The grief and despair in the dream felt so real, so piercing, that even now his heart ached terribly.
He shook his head vigorously, trying to dispel the lingering fear.
“It’s too ridiculous. How could I have such a dream?” he muttered to himself, forcing a smile. He was just an ordinary student. Mercenaries? The Hell Church? It sounded like something out of a bad movie.
Just then, his phone on the bedside table lit up with a notification.
He picked it up. It was a message from Xia Yao.
Xia Yao was his classmate, his deskmate, and also his girlfriend. She was the school belle, beautiful and kind, the girl of his dreams.
The message read: “Lazy pig, are you up? I’m at the breakfast shop in the alley. I got your favorite soy milk and fried dough sticks.”
Seeing the message, and especially the name “Yaoyao” displayed on the screen, Yun Lintian’s heart clenched violently. The image of her falling in his dream flashed before his eyes again.
He took a deep breath, quickly replying: “Got it. I’ll be right there.”
He then got out of bed, quickly washed up, and changed into his blue and white school uniform. His sister, Yun Ningyue, had already left for school. After informing his father, who was preparing his lesson plans in the study, Yun Lintian hurried out the door.
The breakfast shop in the alley was not big, but it was always clean. As soon as Yun Lintian entered, he saw Xia Yao.
She was sitting by the window, the morning sun casting a golden glow on her, making her delicate profile seem to sparkle. Her long black hair was tied into a simple high ponytail, revealing a fair and slender neck. She was wearing the same school uniform as him, but it looked especially good on her.
“Yaoyao,” Yun Lintian called out, walking over and sitting down opposite her.
Xia Yao looked up, her beautiful eyes curving into gentle crescents as she smiled. “You’re here. Hurry up and eat. It’s getting cold.” She pushed the soy milk and fried dough sticks in front of him.
Looking at her alive and well, so vivid and real in front of him, the remaining gloom from Yun Lintian’s dream finally dissipated a lot. He couldn’t help but reach out and hold her hand.
Xia Yao’s face flushed slightly, but she didn’t pull away. She just asked softly, “What’s wrong?”
“Nothing,” Yun Lintian said, picking up a fried dough stick. “I just had a really strange and scary nightmare.”
“Oh? What dream?” Xia Yao asked curiously, sipping her soy milk.
As they walked to school together along the tree-lined path, Yun Lintian began to recount his dream.
“…And then, a man with a codename Lightning, had his legs blown off, but he was still desperately covering me… In the end, we were completely surrounded. It was so real, especially… especially when you…”
At this point, his voice choked up, and he couldn’t continue. He tightened his grip on her hand.
He thought Xia Yao would laugh at him for having such a bizarre and dramatic dream.
But she didn’t.
Instead, she suddenly stopped in her tracks.
Yun Lintian, caught off guard, was pulled to a stop as well. He turned to look at her, puzzled. “Yaoyao? What’s wrong?”
Xia Yao’s face was somewhat pale. She looked at him, her beautiful eyes wide open, filled with shock and something akin to fear. Her red lips trembled slightly, as if she wanted to say something but didn’t know how.
“Yaoyao?” Yun Lintian called again, a bad feeling rising in his heart.
Xia Yao took a deep breath, her voice trembling with a hint of disbelief. “Lintian… you… you said your codename was ‘Cloud’? My codename was ‘Rain’? And there were Lei Hao, Tu Feng, and Xiao Kai?”
Yun Lintian’s heart skipped a beat. “Yeah? How did you know? I didn’t mention their names just now, did I?” He tried to recall, but he was sure he had only mentioned the codenames “Lightning,” “Earth,” and “Sky,” not their actual names.
A look of sheer terror appeared on Xia Yao’s face. Her grip on his hand tightened, her fingertips turning cold.
She looked into Yun Lintian’s eyes, her voice barely a whisper, as if afraid to speak the words.
“I… I had the same dream a few days ago…”
Boom!
It felt like a thunderclap exploding right beside his ear.
Yun Lintian stood frozen on the spot, his mind buzzing.
The same dream?
How was that possible?!
This wasn’t some ordinary nightmare. It was a detailed, coherent, and extremely bizarre story. For two people to have the same dream, with the same settings, the same characters, and the same plot… this defied all common sense!
The sunlight filtering through the leaves dappled the ground, and students hurried past them on their way to school, their laughter and chatter filling the air. But for Yun Lintian and Xia Yao, the world around them seemed to have frozen.
They stood facing each other on the bustling street, seeing the same shock and confusion in each other’s eyes.
The strange feeling he had when reading “Myth Beyond Heaven,” the sharp pain he felt when looking at the family photo, and now this shared, eerie dream…
Fragments of inexplicable events connected in an instant, weaving into a mysterious and unpredictable net, quietly descending upon them.
An indescribable premonition rose in Yun Lintian’s heart…
