Chapter 1535: Chapter 1534: Preparations

Kat PoV

“It should be any day now, right..? Do you think they’re all gathering back at the Capital, or do you think they’re all rushing here on their own?”

I just shrugged as I continued to pour my attention over the ledgers, scribbling down all sorts of numbers as I went over how much coin I brought in, the cost of everything that had been used that night, what I had paid everyone and so on and so forth.

There was a lot I had to do to get this completely underway and really be ’done’ with it, and figuring out the ’actual’ costs of everything and setting up a guesstimation of future costs was my first priority.

All the while Anput lounged on the chair opposite of me as she idly wrote out her own set of numbers, the Jackalkin going over all sorts of ratios to make different alloys and assigning them their costs and prices for future reference.

After her questions were left unanswered my mate just shrugged as well and kept quiet, though when Leone eventually returned with a tray of snacks and tea she immediately sat up straight and grinned, looking the Vampire over rather hungrily.

“Heya there, Leone~! Say, what would you think about-?”

“Not now, Anput. We’re about to be discussing a few things…”

Anput just shrugged again and accepted her tea, though the moment Leone turned around the Jackalkin got some of what she wanted as she gave the Vampire a crisp smack on the ass, smirking at her when she whipped back around.

There was little that Leone could do against Anput though since the moment Jahi walked in the first thing the Demoness did was grab a handful of the Vampire, turning her into a red mess as she fluctuated from being embarrassed, aroused and also ’angry’ at the two of them.

“We got a letter a few minutes ago that says they’re all going to be here in two days. They have to finalize a few things back at the Capital before uh… well, we’re going to have to host the Empress, Sultana and their wives.

Thankfully- Well, I say this entirely because of how ’difficult’ it would be if it was all of them, but thankfully it is just Lady Lorelei coming with the Empress, so there is that. The Empress and Lady Lorelei, the Sultana and Lady Kio, and then Mom and Mother coming with Mother Julie too. Ah, that includes Alessandra and Lakshmi, so…”

I looked up from my personal work and sighed as I realized that this was going to need a lot more attention from me in particular, so I closed my ledger and said “We’ll need to get another hunting party sent out for way more food than we have now. I think we might also want to harvest everything tomorrow instead of waiting until the end of the week, though that is up to the farmers.”

Jahi just nodded while Anput and Leone began to enjoy the tea, with my mate grimacing slightly at what was likely an alchemically enhanced beverage that might have been far too enhanced… something I confirmed a moment later.

Why medicine had to taste so horrible despite being so good for you was forever one of life’s mysteries…

“So we need more food, but what about the housing? Here in the manor? It would work but… it might get a bit crowded, no?”

I chuckled softly at that since the real worry was whether or not we could have sex freely without feeling weird every single time we did, since no amount of enchanted walls would ’save’ us from the enhanced hearing of our parents.

They didn’t want to hear it either but it would happen, and at this point I was also very aware that all of our parents coming would end up having sex eventually too, so the worry was present for all parties involved.

“I would say we could have them stay at any of the other buildings we have in the city but… well, for sake of public appearance all of them have to stay here. We can’t have the Empress staying anywhere besides with us, and doubly so for the Sultana. Yes they might be related to us, but they also have an untold number of people watching them waiting for something to use against either them or us…”

“As always politics continues to astound me. Who cares? The Empress could wave her hand and turn them to ash… and Mom could chop them to pieces before they could utter a syllable.”

Anput’s immediate dismissal made me chuckle again as I said nothing back to her, because I did agree with her but knew that we had to play these games just because… well, it was expected and it was easier after so many centuries of having those games.

A byproduct of the Empress creating an Empire founded around the idea of everyone having some sort of say no matter what; it was a beautifully imperfect thing since people would say that we were disrespecting her for one reason or another and use that to attack us, even if we both agreed it didn’t matter.

“We also need to have space ready for the eventual arrival of some other Nobles yearning to curry favor with the Empress. The Inn needs to be up and running, we need to have the nicer houses prepared, and we need to get the people prepared too… hah, so much to do…”

I just pat Jahi’s thigh once before smiling at her as she did the same, the Demoness finding some comfort in knowing that we were all in this together… and if things ever got too ’stressful’ for her there were obvious ways that we could help her.

For instance… sitting on her lap and guiding her hands beneath our clothing so that she could feel us directly whilst we still worked; crunching numbers while she fondled me was definitely not my smartest decision, but it was certainly one that I didn’t regret… even if I had to go back and triple check my work later…
