Chapter 141: B - The pride of the succubus princess
"G-Go back to Elyndra? A-Are you serious...?" Eliss stammers in disbelief. "I-I should be happy... I guess..."
And yet, there isn’t a trace of happiness in her voice. The look on her face is full of pain. Her whole body goes stiff. Her purse slips from her hand, and her wide eyes stare blankly into space.
"A-Aoshi... knew you were coming to take me home tonight..."
Of course... now I get why he was so determined to stop me from going to work.
How the hell did I not figure it out sooner?
T-That idiot... I was so angry at him. I thought he was just playing with my feelings, when all he really wanted... was to spend my last few hours on Earth with me...
I... feel so guilty about the things I said to him.
Eliss’s eyes fill with tears.
Raelor remains completely unmoved by her pain. He simply nods without saying another word.
"W-Why...? Why didn’t that idiot tell me?!" Eliss sobs as she collapses to her knees in front of him.
"...I-If I’d known that kiss would be our last, I never would’ve let him go... W-Why didn’t he tell me? Why?! IT’S NOT FAIR!!!"
"He didn’t tell you because I ordered him not to. And he proved himself to be a man of his word. That does him great credit."
"I-I see... T-Then... then we have to go see him right now! I-I need to apologize for getting angry at him like that!"
"I’m sorry, but that isn’t possible."
"W-Why?! Why can’t I see him one last time?! Tell me why, Raelor!"
"Because this sudden farewell, without one final moment together, is also part of the punishment King Azhelar has decreed for you."
"Y-You two... decided to keep me in the dark about the length of my own punishment, and fine, I can understand that. But you can’t expect Aoshi to just disappear from my life without even giving me a chance to say goodbye!"
She stares at Raelor with eyes full of despair. The look of a woman completely broken inside, yet still burning with anger.
"I just told you, Princess Eliss — it isn’t up to me."
"T-Then... then break this stupid spell on me right now! You promised you would!" she cries. "I-I know that breaking the magic binding me to him won’t erase the guilt I feel for treating him that way. And it won’t make it hurt any less to leave his life without even a final goodbye. But at least it would make all of this a little easier to bear!"
Raelor lets out a quiet chuckle.
"I already did. Five minutes ago."
A cold shiver runs down Eliss’s spine.
"W-What do you mean you already did it five minutes ago?"
"It means exactly what it sounds like. I broke the spell that made you obsessed with him the moment we met earlier."
"T-Then why...? Oh, I get it. I guess it takes a little while for the effect to wear off. How long do I have to wait?"
"The effect disappeared the instant I removed the spell."
Cold sweat starts running down Eliss’s back.
"A-Are you fucking with me?!"
"Not at all, Princess."
"Then why do I feel like my feelings for him haven’t changed at all?!"
"Why ask me when you already know the answer deep down?"
"A-Are you saying... that while I was under the effects of my own magic, I actually fell in love with him...?" Eliss whispers, a faint smile appearing on her face.
"That seems to be the case. Who would’ve thought the so-called Eternal Virgin would end up falling for a human despite having hundreds of powerful demons courting her? Life really is strange."
Raelor then holds out his hand to Eliss.
"It’s time to return to Elyndra. We’ve already wasted more than enough time."
Hesitantly, Eliss reaches for his hand... but suddenly pulls her own back.
"No..." she whispers, her eyes filling with tears. "I’ve spent my whole life turning down one suitor after another while waiting for someone who could truly make my heart race. And now that I’ve finally found him... I have no intention of giving him up!"
"Eliss, please... Your father ordered me to bring you back to Elyndra no matter the cost. Don’t make me use force."
"No, Raelor. I’m the one giving the warning now!" Eliss snarls.
A massive pair of demonic wings bursts from her back, and her body erupts with intense violet light.
"I-If the only way to stay by the side of the man I love is to get rid of you... then I’ll destroy you with my own hands!"
Eliss lunges at Raelor so fast that a normal human wouldn’t even be able to follow her movement.
And then... BAM!
Her fist crashes into Raelor’s jaw with incredible force. That single punch could’ve shattered a thick reinforced concrete wall.
But...
"Not bad, Princess Eliss. Really not bad," Raelor says with a satisfied smile.
Her fist is still pressed against his face with all her strength, yet he hasn’t moved even a millimeter.
"Shut your mouth, you damn bastard!"
Eliss instantly pulls back her right fist and swings again with her left.
But once again, Raelor remains completely still and unharmed.
Eliss throws another punch. Then another. Driven by nothing but rage and desperation.
You’re right, Princess Eliss. I can’t even begin to imagine how much pain you’re in right now... the helpless frustration of being so close to the person you love more than anyone else in the world, yet unable to reach them. I’ve never seen you this determined, this desperate to get what you want no matter the cost.
Go on... let it all out, Princess. Release your anger. Pour all the pain you’ve been carrying inside onto me.
"It’s not fair! It’s not fair! It’s not fair!" Eliss screams as she keeps throwing punch after punch.
With every strike, the violet light pouring from her body grows brighter.
"It’s not fair that you and my father keep trampling on my feelings like this! T-That old bastard has spent years trying to push me into accepting the advances of all those countless suitors who keep showing up at the castle. And now, instead of being happy that I’ve finally found the man I’m meant to be with, he’s trying to stand in my way! Why?! Tell me why, Raelor?! Why does nobody care about how I feel?! I... I JUST WANT TO BE HAPPY!"
For a brief moment, just as she’s about to throw a punch faster and stronger than all the others, the light pouring from her body becomes so intense and packed with energy that the ground beneath her feet cracks apart and... WHOOOM!
Raelor catches the punch with the palm of his hand.
A violent shockwave erupts from the impact, tearing up the asphalt and leaving scars across the nearby buildings.
The shockwave sends Eliss flying backward. She bounces brutally across the pavement before crashing down nearly twenty meters away.
Her face is covered in blood and sweat.
The force of the clash and the brutal landing have split open her forehead and busted her lip. More blood runs from her nose, painting her face red.
Her right shoulder and leg are covered in deep bruises and riddled with internal fractures.
When she tries to stand, waves of agonizing pain tear through her body under Raelor’s seemingly emotionless gaze.
I’ve never been prouder of you than I am right now, Princess Eliss. In all these years, I’ve never seen you truly fight for something — or someone. Honestly, I was starting to think that day would never come. And yet...
"I... won’t let anyone take me away from Aoshi... not even you!" Eliss hisses, her voice shaking from pain and tears.
She rises a few feet above the ground and extends her arm toward Raelor, pointing a finger straight at him.
Her nail begins to glow with the same violet light still flickering around her body, growing weaker with every passing second.
You’re the most determined woman I’ve ever known. Even before you challenged me, you already understood just how overwhelming the gap in power between us was. And yet that never stopped you from putting your whole heart into fighting for the man you love.
That does you great credit, Eliss. At last. This is what your father and I wanted to see: the pride and dignity of a true princess.
Now I wonder... will that boy show the same determination?
A small sphere of violet energy forms at the tip of her finger.
"I-I’d rather die here fighting you than spend the rest of my life suffering and regretting that I didn’t give everything I had for what I truly want! If I give up now, I’d be trampling on my own feelings — pretending they never mattered!"
The sphere keeps growing until it’s nearly four inches across.
Enough power to level an entire building.
"No one gets in my way and walks away from it. Not you, and definitely not my father! NO ONE!"
A blazing beam erupts toward Raelor.
But the instant Eliss releases the spell, the violet glow surrounding her disappears. Her wings retract on their own, and with nothing left keeping her airborne, she begins to fall, completely exhausted.
Raelor stops the attack with surprising ease, briefly creating a sphere of energy around himself, like an electric field that dissolves the blast.
Then he dashes forward and catches Eliss in midair before she can hit the ground.
Now she lies unconscious in his arms, tears and blood streaking her face.
"You did well, Princess. But it’s time to go home."
