Chapter 140: B - Unexpected encounter

"Fourteen-year-old stabs mother to death after an argument over— oh, who cares!" Eliss grumbles, absentmindedly flipping through a copy of the Shinano Mainichi Shimbun left on one of the Moonlight Club’s tables for customers to read. "Humans really are a species without values. How does someone even stab their own mother to death?"

"This bachelor party was a huge success, Eliss! And it’s all thanks to you!" Mr. Tobita exclaims triumphantly.

He, Eliss, and a couple of waiters are cleaning up the club after the celebration.

"D-Don’t even remind me — it was so embarrassing..." Eliss mutters, her cheeks suddenly turning as red as a tomato as she recalls the sexy dance she had been forced to improvise on top of the groom-to-be’s table.

Nothing had been planned. It was simply a request from the guests, accompanied by a very, very generous tip.

Despite her initial refusal, Eliss had ultimately agreed to dance half-naked under the lustful gazes of every customer and staff member in the Moonlight Club.

And yet, it wasn’t the substantial payment offered by her boss that had convinced her.

"And anyway, a deal is a deal."

Eliss shoots Mr. Tobita a glare.

"I agreed to play the slut all evening for that bunch of pathetic, sex-starved losers — a humiliation I’ll never forget for the rest of my life. So now it’s time for you to uphold your end of the bargain! If Aoshi isn’t back working here by tomorrow night, I swear this will be the last time you ever see me! Better yet, I’ll go work at that lousy dump down the street and steal every single one of your customers — I guarantee it!"

Of course, manipulating Mr. Tobita’s mind to force him to rehire Aoshi had been the first solution Eliss considered. But even a beginner like her in demonic magic knew it would only be a temporary fix, since the spell would wear off as soon as she returned to Elyndra. So she had decided it would be better if Mr. Tobita rehired Aoshi of his own free will.

At Eliss’s threatening words, the other employees instinctively take a step back, expecting an angry outburst or perhaps a full-blown meltdown.

Instead, nothing.

Just a docile lamb.

"I-I gave you my word, and I’m a man of my word," Mr. Tobita mutters.

He’s irritated by Eliss’s tone, which is undermining his authority in front of the entire staff, but at the same time terrified by the thought of losing the only reason this place hasn’t gone out of business yet.

"I-I’ll call Aoshi tomorrow morning, and he’ll be back at work tomorrow night..."

"No, wait, I got mixed up," Eliss interrupts him. "You gave me tomorrow off, remember? So there’s no way I’m spending the day home alone while Aoshi is working here. He told me he’d take me on a romantic walk, so there’s absolutely no chance he’s coming in tomorrow! He can start the day after tomorrow."

"Y-Yes... whatever you say..."

Eliss suddenly drops the broom and dustpan and heads for the staff room to change out of her work uniform and into her regular clothes.

"H-Hey, where do you think you’re going, Eliss? It’s not even midnight yet, and your shift isn’t over!" Mr. Tobita calls after her.

"I’d say I’ve done a lot more than my normal shift requires today. Besides, my Aoshi is waiting for me at home. I think he’s not feeling well, so I need to get him some medicine. And on top of that, he made me really angry, so I need to give him a proper scolding! So don’t you dare make me angry too!" Eliss replies, slamming the staff room door behind her.

A few seconds later, she emerges wearing a tight black T-shirt and an equally form-fitting pair of leggings.

"Make sure you clean everything properly, okay?" Eliss chirps to Mr. Tobita and her coworkers. "See you the day after tomorrow. Bye-bye!" she adds, waving cheerfully as she walks out of the club.

"I’m such an idiot! A complete idiot!" Eliss grumbles loudly as she stomps her way toward the twenty-four-hour pharmacy not far from the Moonlight Club.

"D-Damn it all! Me — the Princess of Ravessia, one of the most renowned demons in all of Elyndra — reduced to stripping and dancing for pathetic humans like some cheap stripper just to get that idiot Aoshi his job back! Grrr, it makes me so angry! I-If I think about how that idiot actually had the nerve to ask me to sleep with him just to keep me from leaving the house, I... I... I’m furious! H-How dare he make a fool of me like that! H-How dare he grab me from behind, pin me against the wall, hold me close..."

Her face turns scarlet, her voice growing softer and warmer.

"...p-press his lips against mine... I... I... d-damn it, I’m blushing again — it’s not fair! That bastard is going to pay for this! I’ll make sure he never feels like... feels like... feels like pretending to want me ever again!"

"I see you’re in a particularly terrible mood tonight, Princess Eliss Narkhalis," a familiar male voice calls out from above — from the roof of a nearby building.

"Oh, wonderful. Today really isn’t my day, Raelor. Please don’t start too," she mutters, not the least bit surprised by his presence.

Raelor leaps down from the rooftop with the silence and grace of a cat, landing right beside her without making a sound.

"Oh no, Princess — I have absolutely no intention of making you any angrier than that boy already has," he replies. Not even the fact that Raelor knows everything surprises her, since she has always known she has been under his watch twenty-four hours a day since the moment she first set foot on Earth.

"On the contrary, I’m here to bring you wonderful news," he adds with a radiant smile.

"And what would that be?"

Raelor steps in front of her and looks her straight in the eyes.

"Your father, King Azhelar Narkhalis, has decided that your punishment ends now."

"M-My punishment is over...?" Eliss stammers, her heart suddenly racing and her breathing quickening.

"Exactly."

Then Raelor extends a hand toward her.

"Princess Eliss, it is time to return to Elyndra."
