Chapter 848: News Spread Like Wildfire
Chapter 848: News Spread Like Wildfire
“Big news! The Dragon Blood Tribe has lost the war!”
A loud cry echoed through the capital of the Golden Lion Empire, drawing the attention of countless people as flyers scattered through the air.
Gasps spread through the streets as citizens snatched the papers from the air. Their eyes widened with disbelief as they read the shocking message.
“W-What?! The Dragon Blood Tribe really lost to the Ogre Tribe?!”
“How could this be possible? How did the mighty Dragon Blood Tribe fall to the Ogres?!”
“This has to be false! There’s no way the Dragon Blood Tribe could lose to them!”
“What exactly happened at Crimsonfang Peak for them to suffer such a defeat?!”
The city erupted into chaos, whispers and shouts filling the air. From nobles to commoners, everyone repeated the same thing, struggling to accept the unbelievable truth.
And like wildfire, the news spread to every corner of the Empire, shaking all who heard what had transpired at Crimsonfang Peak.
Upon receiving confirmation, the Imperial Family wasted no time and immediately called an emergency meeting at the Imperial Palace. The noble families rushed there at once after receiving the urgent summons.
The fall of the Dragon Blood Tribe complicated the entire continent’s balance of power. Their defeat to the Ogres — and the death of their leader, Kaelrath — left a gaping void no one could ignore.
Many refused to believe it. The news sounded too absurd, too unreal. Yet the truth is rarely sweet; more often, it is bitter.
Emperor Raghar sat in the palace, his face shadowed with worry. Dark circles rimmed his eyes, and his once-commanding presence looked disheveled, as though something tormented him deeply.
The nobles exchanged uneasy glances, surprised by the drastic change in his appearance. It was as if their Emperor had been haunted by a ghost from the depths of hell.
“Your Majesty, what has happened to you? You look so different compared to just a few days ago. Has something been troubling you?” one nobleman asked with genuine concern, mindful that Emperor Raghar was the pillar of the Golden Lion Empire.
Emperor Raghar sank onto his throne with a heavy sigh, drawing in a long breath as he looked at the nobles and officials who had rushed to the palace on such short notice.
“There is indeed something that has been troubling me… the survival of our empire in the current turmoil of the Beast Continent,” Emperor Raghar said after a pause, speaking slowly and gravely.
He continued, “You may not yet realize the weight of this, but it is deeply concerning for our survival. We have no idea what the Ogre Tribe will do now that they have won the battle. And word has it… that the Queen of the Elves herself took part in the fight.”
“And considering what we have done — and what she has done — I fear she may soon make a move against us.”
At his words, the throne room fell into heavy silence. Expressions hardened one by one as everyone realized the true scale of the threat looming over them.
Emperor Raghar exhaled deeply and shook his head, unease flickering in his eyes.
’If Mireya ever learns that my foolish daughter was behind the bounty on her head… she will surely bring destruction upon my empire!’ The thought made him swallow nervously, despair clawing at his chest.
“So what do you suggest, Your Majesty? What should we do?” one noble finally asked, his face a mixture of concern and curiosity.
“I do not know what would be best for us… That is why I have gathered you all here. Alone, I cannot devise a solution that will satisfy everyone. I need your counsel.” Emperor Raghar’s voice remained calm, though the weight behind his words was clear.
The situation was dire. A single misstep could spell the downfall of the Golden Lion Empire.
After all, Mireya now had the backing of the entire Ogre Tribe. She had stood with them on the battlefield against the Dragon Blood Tribe, personally aiding in their victory.
With her cold and ruthless nature, it was not unthinkable that she might act swiftly upon her return from Crimsonfang Peak — just as she had when she destroyed the dam at the Twin Mountains.
—
Meanwhile, in the Lawless City, the criminal organizations erupted into panic upon hearing the news of the Dragon Blood Tribe’s crushing defeat to the Ogre Tribe.
It caused quite a commotion as every member of the criminal organizations ran through the city; the situation worsened by the minute. Small-time criminals shuttered their doors, afraid to venture outside for fear of being killed.
The four major criminal organizations convened an urgent meeting attended only by their leaders and bodyguards — they insisted the gathering remain private.
The streets of the Lawless City fell eerily silent; no one stirred except for the patrols from each organization, who watched over their own territories.
Many guards paced the avenues while their leaders met at the neutral zone of the city.
The Lawless City’s neutral zone was a well-known restaurant: the Golden Plaza. The building had once been the City Lord’s castle until the criminal syndicates rose to power and eliminated him. Since then, the four major organizations agreed to convert the castle into a lavish restaurant and made it their meeting place — and fighting there was strictly forbidden.
Meanwhile, news of the Dragon Blood Tribe’s defeat at the hands of the Ogre Tribe rippled across the continent, shocking everyone who heard it.
The Beast Continent was home to many tribes, and shock spread through them all when they learned how pathetically the mighty Dragon Blood Tribe had fallen. The news struck like a storm; people were stunned and found it hard to believe.
—
The Elven Council reeled upon learning their Queen had fought alongside the Ogre Tribe at Crimsonfang Peak — and returned alive, victorious.
“I can’t believe our Queen fought for the Ogres…those vile things!” one elf muttered, equal parts disgusted and stunned.
“Lower your voice if you value your life! Don’t you know our Queen considers the Crimson Vrasha her sister? And remember — she is currently in the palace,” Elder Camilla warned the newcomer sternly, unwilling to let someone die needlessly.
She added, “If our Queen hears you speak like that, she will have you hanged in the city square without mercy.”
“I—I understand…” the new council member stammered, nodding and swallowing nervously as he sank into his chair.
Elder Camilla sank into her chair and said, “Now that the Dragon Blood Tribe has lost the war, and word of our Queen’s involvement has spread far and wide…”
“It’s only a matter of time before many nations and tribes come seeking cooperation. We must strengthen the security along the kingdom’s borders.”
“Indeed.” Elder Davis nodded, his expression firm as he pictured the possibilities. “Not everyone will arrive with good intentions. Many will carry impure designs against our kingdom.”
“Exactly. We need to be vigilant and prepared for every eventuality.” Elder Camilla agreed, her face grave as she slid a new bill across to Elder Davis.
“I’ve already issued new orders for the guards — it only needs your signatures.” Elder Camilla explained the bill to the council members.
After reading the proposal carefully, the council signed without delay. The sooner it passed, the better — it concerned the safety of innocent citizens.
Shortly after the bill was enacted, security around the kingdom’s borders increased severalfold — and measures tightened inside the city as well.
The citizens were puzzled by the sudden shift in security, but having learned the outcome of the war, they did not question the Elven Council’s judgment.
In fact, they rejoiced that Kaelrath and the Dragon Blood Tribe had been defeated by the Ogres and by their beloved Queen Mireya.
Every elf spoke of it with broad smiles; the news spread like wildfire across the Elven Kingdom. Even the children expressed their delight at the war’s outcome.
Inside the Elven Palace, Yuan and his wives discussed plans to confront the Green Viper Organization in the Lawless City and uncover who placed the bounty on Mireya’s head.
“Tomorrow afternoon we confront the Green Viper Organization,” Anna Grace said, her face serious. “If they cooperate, we’ll spare them. If they resist… they won’t be able to handle the consequences.”
“From what I’ve heard, the leader of the Green Viper Organization is a woman… a very beautiful one at that,” Sylvia said with a teasing smile, eyes dancing mischievously as she looked at Yuan.
“I hope a certain someone doesn’t fall for her beauty when he sees her in the Lawless City,” she added, the tone playful.
Anna Grace spread a wide, dangerous grin and narrowed her eyes at Yuan. “If that happens, I’ll make sure that ’that certain someone’ pays dearly for breaking his promise.”
Yuan swallowed nervously at the fierce look his beloved mother gave him. She looked like the devil himself; the chill that ran down his spine was impossible to ignore.
“There is no way I’d do that! Come on, I already have so many beautiful women—why would I chase a stranger?” Yuan said, laughing awkwardly as he glanced at his wives, only to receive cold glares from each of them.
