Chapter 1651: The Forsaken’s Town
Chapter 1651: The Forsaken’s Town
“Fuck yeah!”
Clenching his fists in excitement, the young man briefly let out joyful laughter in response to the man’s announcement, which unsurprisingly caused a few of the passersby to give both him and Ryvrthe odd looks for a bit.
Feeling a hint of embarrassment at the looks the people were giving them, Valyr eventually let out an awkward chuckle, only to then give the people a faint nod of acknowledgment as he had both him and Ryvrthe head towards the largest building in his territory.
The town hall.
“Did they say anything about your appearance?” With there not being much reason to rush towards the town hall, the two walked along the streets at a leisurely pace, with Valyr giving Ryvrthe a look of curiosity.
“Did they say anything about how the others looked?”
“The inspectors gave everyone odd looks for a bit, but then nodded as if there wasn’t an issue in the first place,” replied the latter, a slightly relieved smile tugging on his lips. “I guess your fears were unfounded, after all.”
Letting out a slightly wry chuckle in response to the man’s statement, Valyr briefly thought back to the time he had brought the first batch of the Forsaken race out of the inheritance.
Considering that over a thousand people had tagged along with him on what was the Forsaken race’s first trip out of the inheritance, it was no surprise that it took both Valyr and Ryvrthe a long while for things to calm down.
However, once everyone was on the same page, it did not take long for things to shift into gear, with most of the Forsaken deciding that their first agenda out of the inheritance was to transform the place into something more habitable for them.
Fortunately, with Valyr’s spatial bracelet, as well as access to the inheritance’s material caches, the Forsaken had plentiful materials to use, allowing them build a great number of huts within a couple of hours.
Though, with Valyr having planned to turn his territory into a long-term settlement for both the humans and the Forsaken, he had the Forsaken tear down some of the huts they made, only to then enlist Ryvrthe’s help in having the houses be built in specific areas.
“Can you blame me, though?” replied the young man with a slight chuckle. “Though both the Forsaken and the humans of today come from the same ancestor, there still exists a difference between the two, especially with how long the two sides have been apart.”
“That is true.” Ryvrthe faintly nodded in agreement, understanding what he was getting. “Some of the things we Forsaken have taken granted are definitely unusual in the eyes of others.”
“I suppose the reason for the inspectors’ odd looks is the long nails the protectors have decided to keep,” said the man soon after, which prompted the young man to fall into pensive thought. “Then again, they didn’t really say anything about it.”
“No point thinking about what’s already happened,” replied the young man with a shrug of his shoulders. “Speaking of which, everyone’s already learned the language here, right?”
“There’s still a decent chunk that have yet to do so, but most of them have already learned it.” Ryvrthe nodded. “It took a while at first, especially with how little power we were producing, but once we got the first alternator going, it began to snowball from there.”
Hearing the man mention alternators in his reply, Valyr briefly thought back to the time the basic infrastructure of the settlement had finally taken shape.
While a decent chunk of the Forsaken were still in the middle of building houses in preparation for the next batch of Forsaken, the young man had the remainder gather around him and Ryvrthe, only to then reveal the language device to everyone.
With Ryvrthe explaining how the device worked, as well as the young man powering it, the Forsaken started to learn the current language among humans, which allowed the development of the settlement to greatly speed up.
After all, with more of the Forsaken now having the ability to converse with from the surface, both Valyr and Ryvrthe could now delegate duties they would’ve withheld at first due to the language barrier.
In fact, if not for the decision to have the others learn a new language as soon as possible, the young man felt that it would have taken at least few times longer for the town to actually look like a proper town.
Especially if he were to include the choices they made in relation to the town’s power generation.
“Now that you mention it, how many watts of power are we generating at the moment?”
Finally arriving at the town hall, the two swiftly made their way to the main office before continuing where their conversation left off.
“I’m currently having some of the Forsaken crank the alternators in two-hour shifts,” said Ryvrthe, a slightly bitter smile on his face. “In terms of how much power they’re making on average, I’d say we’re generating around three kilowatts of power while they’re active.”
“That’s a lot.” Valyr let out a whistle in admiration. “Are you having the alternators running all day or…?”
“I’ve only had them run for eight hours at most.” Ryvrthe shook his head. “As for the excess power being generated, it’s all being stored in the battery array we made.”
“Good thing we did that second excursion to the west wing a couple months ago.”
Smiling in response to the man’s words, Valyr briefly recalled their efforts into expanding the town’s power generation.
Though he was mostly occupied with helping his other self comprehend the two Forces in the inheritance, the young man was still able to help Ryvrthe and the others out from time to time.
However, with his opportunity to help them out only occurring whenever Ataraxia took a break from Greater Beyond, Valyr had to make his help count, which was why he focused most of his attention towards the town’s power generation during those times.
“Aside from grabbing the parts that eventually made up the battery array, we also got our hands on a few more alternators we missed during the first excursion,” said the young man, his words causing Ryvrthe to reminisce over the memory.
“A shame all of the power transmission wires corroded over the years, though.”
“Yeah.” Ryvrthe faintly nodded in agreement. “Fortunately, you were able to source the same metal we used in the proof of concept, as well as a good insulator for the wires we plan on using for power transmission.”
“I still don’t want to recall the hours I’ve spent winding new coils around the alternators, though.”
“In any case…” Feeling like their conversation had gone on a tangent for long enough, the man went ahead and steered the conversation back to its original topic, taking out a parchment that immediately caught Valyr’s attention.
“Now that our settlement is officially recognized as a town, what name shall we give it?”
“Hmm…?” Pondering over the question for a bit, Valyr rubbed his chin as the gears in his mind turned to come up with a fitting name for the Forsaken’s town.
Thankfully, it did not take long for the right name to pop up in the young man’s mind.
“How about… New Ecalos?”
