Chapter 98 Stain
Chapter 98: Chapter 98 Stain
The next morning, Daisy arrived at the laboratory with renewed determination.
The unpleasant incident from yesterday still lingered in the back of her mind, but she refused to let it take away the joy she had found in her work. Taking a quiet breath, she pushed those thoughts aside and focused on what lay ahead.
Today was different.
After watching her carefully over the past few days, Ace finally felt confident enough to let her work independently.
He placed a stack of sample reports on the laboratory bench before looking at her.
Ace said with a satisfied smile. "You’ve learned much faster than I expected. You already have a good understanding of the procedures, so from today onward, I’ll let you handle this part yourself. If you run into any problems, just let me know."
Daisy’s eyes brightened immediately.
A smile bloomed across her face as she nodded enthusiastically.
She quickly typed on her notebook.
Thank you. I’ll do my best.
Ace chuckled. "I know you will."
Daisy carefully put her phone away and tied her lab coat securely before stepping toward the workstation.
She was trusted to carry out the analysis herself.
The thought alone filled her with quiet excitement.
She picked up the first report generated by the gas chromatograph and began comparing it with the reference data displayed on the computer screen.
Peak by peak...
Retention time by retention time...
She examined every result with remarkable patience.
Her brow furrowed slightly in concentration as she scribbled observations in her work book, occasionally flipping through previous records to compare the data.
Ace watched her from a short distance.
Unlike many newcomers who rushed through reports, Daisy never hurried. She paid attention to every tiny detail. Even when she wasn’t completely certain about something, she would pause, verify the data twice and only then continue.
A faint smile appeared on Ace’s face.
She’s meticulous...
That’s exactly the kind of researcher we need.
Unaware that she was being observed, Daisy continued studying the chromatograms with complete focus, her eyes sparkling with genuine curiosity each time she recognized a compound or noticed an unusual peak.
Everything had gone surprisingly well that morning.
Daisy felt completely absorbed in her work. Every sample that arrived from the gas chromatograph fascinated her. She carefully compared each chromatogram with the reference standards, making notes whenever she spotted even the slightest variation. Time seemed to pass without her noticing.
Before she knew it, lunch break had ended.
Daisy walked back toward the laboratory, still thinking about one of the sample reports. Her mind was occupied with retention times and compound structures.
"Daisy."
A deep voice called from behind.
She stopped and turned around.
Alessio was striding toward her. His expression was unusually serious. Even walking quickly, he carried himself with effortless grace. His black dress shirt was neatly rolled at the sleeves, revealing his forearms, and his sharp green eyes were fixed entirely on her.
Before Daisy could wonder what had happened, he removed his suit jacket.
Without a single word, he stepped behind her.
Before she could react, he wrapped the jacket around her waist, covering the stain on the back of her skirt. Then he tied the sleeves into a neat knot at her side, securing it firmly.
Daisy froze.
The warmth of the fabric pressed against her lower back. The sleeves rested against her hip, snug and secure. She could feel the lingering heat from his body through the material and the faint scent of his cool perfume wrapped around her like an embrace.
Her breath caught.
She looked down at the jacket tied around her waist, then slowly turned to look up at him.
Alessio’s face remained calm. But his green eyes flickered with something unreadable as he met her gaze.
Several employees nearby had discreetly looked in their direction before quickly looking away. Their gazes were careful, almost apologetic, as if they had seen something they shouldn’t have.
Daisy’s cheeks flushed.
She opened her mouth slightly, then closed it, unsure how to react.
Alessio spoke quietly, his voice low enough for only her to hear.
"You have a red stain on the back of your skirt."
For a second, Daisy froze.
Her face drained of color. Then her eyes widened in horror.
No...
Her heartbeat quickened. She hadn’t even realized.
Embarrassment flooded her cheeks. Her large eyes became visibly anxious as she instinctively touched the jacket tied around her waist.
She quickly thought of Mona.
Maybe... I should ask Mona...
Before she could do anything, Alessio spoke again.
"Come with me."
Without making a scene, he lightly took hold of her wrist and led her toward the executive offices. His touch was gentle, his fingers warm against her skin.
Daisy looked at him in surprise but followed, one hand resting on the jacket tied at her side.
A few curious glances followed them through the hallway, but Alessio’s cold and intimidating presence alone was enough to keep anyone from asking questions.
Once inside his office, he picked up the desk phone.
Alessio said flatly. "Bring the best sanitary pad pack available. And a change of clothes."
He paused briefly, his gaze flickering to Daisy. "Include appropriate undergarments. Matching size—"
He looked at Daisy, his eyes questioning.
She understood immediately. Her face turned an even deeper shade of red, but she managed to write the size on a piece of paper and hand it to him.
Alessio glanced at it, then spoke the size into the phone.
He ended the call before opening his phone and typing another message.
Only then did he look up.
Daisy stood quietly near the door, her head lowered in embarrassment. Her fingers touched the sleeves of his jacket tied at her waist.
Sensing his gaze, she slowly looked up.
Her eyes were filled with gratitude.
She gave him a small, respectful bow.
Thank you.
Alessio watched her silently for a moment.
"...No need."
His voice remained calm. He gestured toward the sofa.
"Sit."
Daisy immediately shook her head. What if she stained the sofa? She was already embarrassed enough.
Alessio looked at her for another second. "...Sit."
His tone wasn’t harsh. It simply left no room for argument.
After hesitating, Daisy quietly walked over and sat on the edge of the sofa, keeping his jacket tied securely around her waist.
Almost ten minutes later, there was a knock on the office door.
