Chapter 88 First day
Chapter 88: Chapter 88 First day
Monday arrived faster than Daisy expected.
She woke up before her alarm, her heart already pounding with a mixture of excitement and nervousness. Today was the day. Her first day at Kuursh Pharma.
The morning light was pale and soft, filtering through her thin curtains and casting a gentle glow across her small room. Dust motes floated lazily in the golden beams, dancing like tiny stars.
She got dressed carefully. She chose a lavender dress, simple but elegant, with short sleeves and a modest neckline. The fabric was soft and light, flowing around her knees as she moved. She wore comfortable flats because in the lab she didn’t need to wear professional clothing.
She brushed her caramel hair until it shone, letting it fall in soft waves around her shoulders. She applied a light touch of lip gloss and looked at herself in the mirror.
She gave herself a nod, Presentable!
She grabbed her bag, checked for her phone, her notebook, and her small wallet. She walked out of her room, down the stairs and out of the mansion.
The morning air was cool, carrying the scent of fresh grass and blooming flowers. The birds were singing and the sky was a clear, soft blue.
The cab ride was short but felt like an eternity. Daisy watched the city pass by outside the window, her mind running with thoughts and worries. What if she made a mistake? What if she couldn’t keep up? What if they regretted hiring her? What if her silence was too much of a barrier?
She pushed the thoughts away. She had gotten this job because she deserved it.
She arrived at Kuursh Pharma and walked through the main entrance. The lobby was clean and modern, with white walls, comfortable seating, and the same friendly receptionist from her interview day.
The smell of fresh coffee and cleaning solution permeated the air. A few employees were already arriving, their footsteps echoing on the polished floors.
Daisy smiled and walked toward the desk. She pulled out her phone and typed.
Good morning. I am Daisy Winter. It is my first day today.
The receptionist read the screen and nodded with a warm smile. "Ah, yes! Welcome, Ms. Winter. Please wait here. Someone will come to escort you."
Daisy nodded and stepped to the side. She stood quietly, her hands clasped in front of her, her eyes taking in the bustle of the lobby. She watched employees pass by, some carrying coffee cups, others holding files and tablets. Everyone seemed focused and busy. She wanted to be like them.
A few minutes later, a young woman in a white lab coat appeared. She had kind eyes and a friendly smile, her dark hair pulled back in a neat ponytail. She gestured for Daisy to follow her.
Daisy followed her through the building, past the lab, past the offices, past the bustle of employees starting their day. The walls were lined with certificates and photographs of the team and the air smelled faintly of flowers and chemicals.
The woman stopped in front of a small office and knocked on the door.
A voice called out from inside. "Come in."
The woman opened the door and stepped aside, motioning for Daisy to enter.
Daisy walked inside.
The office was small but tidy, with a desk, filing cabinets, and a window that overlooked the parking lot. Behind the desk sat a man.
He was old, with a bald head and a round face. His skin was pale and slightly wrinkled, and his small, dark eyes studied Daisy as she entered. For a brief moment, something flashed in them. Something that made her skin prickle.
Lust.
But it was gone as quickly as it appeared, replaced by a respectful smile that did not quite reach his eyes.
"Oh, so she is the new one?" he asked, his voice smooth and practiced.
The young woman who had brought Daisy stepped forward. "Yes, sir. This is Daisy Winter. She is joining the perfumery department."
The manager nodded slowly, his eyes still fixed on Daisy’s face.
"And sir," the woman added hesitantly, "she is mute. She cannot speak. She communicates through writing or sign language."
The manager’s eyebrows rose slightly. His smile remained in place. "Ah. I see. That is no problem at all. We are an inclusive company. We welcome everyone." He leaned back in his chair, his eyes never leaving Daisy’s face. "Welcome, Ms. Winter. I am Mr. Higgins. I manage the day-to-day operations of this department. If you have any questions or need any help, you can come to me."
Daisy nodded and gave a small, polite smile.
She did not know why, but something about Mr. Higgins made her feel uneasy. His smile didn’t quite reach his eyes.
She felt uncomfortable under his gaze. She pushed the feeling away. She was just nervous. That was all.
She typed on her phone and held out the screen.
Thank you, Mr. Higgins. I am excited to be here and ready to work hard.
Mr. Higgins read the screen and smiled. "Excellent. I will have someone show you to the lab and introduce you to your team. If you need anything, my door is always open."
He said the last words slowly, his eyes lingering on her face for a moment longer than necessary.
Daisy nodded and followed the woman out of the office.
As she walked down the hallway, she tried to shake the uneasy feeling in her chest. It was just her imagination. She was just nervous. That was all. Everything would be fine.

Daisy followed the young woman through a set of double doors and into the main laboratory.
The moment she stepped inside, her breath caught.
The lab was spacious and bright, with white walls and large windows that let in streams of natural light. Rows of workstations stretched across the room, each one equipped with glass beakers, precision scales, and rows of amber and clear bottles filled with liquids of every color. The air smelled faintly of alcohol, flowers and something citrusy, a fragrance that seemed to dance on the air like music.
