Mafia Lord's Mute Sweetheart

Chapter 83

Chapter 83: Chapter 83

Next Day

Daisy woke up before her alarm.

The morning light beamed through her thin curtains, pale and soft, painting golden stripes across her small room. The dust motes floated lazily in the warm glow, and the birds were chirping outside her window. She lay in bed for a moment, her heart already pounding with excitement and nervousness.

Today was her interview day!

She sat up quickly, her movements eager and full of energy. She swung her legs over the side of the bed and walked to her bathroom. She washed her face, brushed her teeth, and quickly got ready. Her reflection in the mirror looked back at her, eyes bright, cheeks flushed, a small smile playing on her lips.

She put on the outfit Annie had helped her choose. The cream blouse fit perfectly, the fabric soft and elegant against her skin. The navy blue blazer gave her a sharp, professional look, and the dark trousers made her legs look long and graceful. Her heels added a few inches to her height, making her feel confident and capable.

She grabbed her bag, her phone, and the folder of documents she had prepared. She walked out of her room, down the stairs, and out of the mansion.

The morning air was crisp and cool. The sun was warm on her face. She felt like the world was opening up to her, like anything was possible.

She booked a cab using her phone and waited at the gate. The cab arrived within minutes, and she climbed inside.

Kuursh Pharma Limited, she typed, showing the address to the driver.

The driver nodded and pulled away.

The drive was short but felt like an eternity. Daisy watched the city pass by outside the window, her mind flooded with thoughts and questions and worries.

What if she messed up? What if they didn’t like her? What if they asked her something she couldn’t answer? What if her silence was too much of a barrier?

She pushed the thoughts away.

The cab stopped in front of a medium-sized building. It was not a huge corporate headquarters, but a modest, well-maintained complex with two floors and a clean, professional appearance.

Daisy paid the driver and stepped out.

She stood at the gate for a moment, looking at the building. A sign read "Kuursh Pharma Limited" The building had a main entrance and another section that appeared to be a dispatch area, where trucks could pull in and out.

The main building, she noticed, was actually a lab. She could see through the windows on the ground floor glimpses of white coats, equipment, and people moving quickly.

She walked to the entrance and showed her visit card on her phone to the guard.

The guard looked at the card, then at her, then nodded. "Go ahead, ma’am. Reception is straight ahead."

Daisy nodded her thanks and walked inside.

The lobby was clean and modern, with white walls, comfortable seating, and a reception desk at the far end. A young woman sat behind the desk, her expression friendly and professional.

Daisy walked toward her, her heels clicking softly on the floor.

The receptionist smiled. "Good morning! How can I help you?"

Daisy pulled out her phone and typed quickly.

I am Daisy Winter. I have an interview at 10 AM. With Mr. Henderson.

She held out the screen.

The receptionist read the words and nodded. "Ah, yes! Mr. Henderson mentioned you. Please go upstairs. The office is on the second floor. Take the stairs or the elevator, whichever you prefer."

Daisy smiled and nodded her thanks.

She walked toward the stairs, her heart pounding.

She reached the second floor.

The hallway was lined with doors. A few were open, revealing offices, meeting rooms, and workstations. People moved quickly, their steps quick and focused. Daisy could hear the distant hum of conversation, the clatter of keyboards, the shuffle of papers.

She looked for the office where her interview was supposed to take place. She found it at the end of the hall, a door slightly ajar. She paused, confused.

Was she the only one here for the interview? She had expected to see other candidates, other nervous faces, other people waiting for their chance, but the hallway was empty.

She did not think much of it. Maybe they were interviewing candidates at different times. Maybe she was the only one who had applied.

She pushed the thought away and walked toward the door.

Before she could knock, the door opened.

A man stepped out. He was wearing a white coat. His face was clean and handsome, with sharp features and a warm complexion. His eyes were beautiful, deep black, intense, like pools of ink that seemed to see right through her. His hair was styled in a curtain cut, falling softly across his forehead.

He looked at her carefully, his gaze traveling from her face to her outfit and back again. He was not rude about it, just assessing like he was trying to figure out who she was and what she was doing here.

"Are you here for the interview?" he asked. His voice was smooth and professional, but there was a hint of curiosity in it.

Daisy nodded. She pulled out her phone and typed quickly.

Yes. I am Daisy Winter. I have an interview with Mr. Henderson.

She held out the screen.

The man read the words and nodded. He stepped aside, gesturing toward the open door.

"You should go inside. Mr. Henderson has been waiting for you. Actually, someone else will be taking the interview today."

Daisy blinked in confusion. Someone else? She had been told Mr. Henderson would be interviewing her.

But she did not have time to question it. She nodded and stepped past him.

As he passed her, a faint scent reached her nostrils. It was a mix of multiple fragrances, something floral, something earthy, something sharp and chemical. It was the scent of someone who worked in a lab, surrounded by bottles, beakers, and experiments.

Daisy breathed it in and smiled. It reminded her of her own tiny experiments.

She walked into the office and froze.

Sitting behind the desk was a very familiar person.

Alessio.

He was wearing a black suit, impeccably tailored, his dark hair perfectly in place. His green eyes were fixed on the laptop in front of him, his expression cold and focused. On the other side sat an older man, likely Mr. Henderson.

Alessio looked up as she entered.

His eyes met hers, and he froze.

Last night, Rafael had been preparing to take the interview. Alessio was confused why his brother was so excited. But early this morning, Rafael had been struck with a sudden, violent case of diarrhea. He had called Alessio in a panic, his voice strained and begged him to take the interview in his place.

Alessio had agreed reluctantly. He had come to Kuursh Pharma expecting to interview a stranger, a random candidate he had never met.

He had not expected Daisy.

Daisy stood in the doorway, her eyes wide, her mouth slightly open. She looked stunning. The cream blouse was fitted perfectly, the fabric soft and elegant. The blazer gave her a sharp, professional look. The dark trousers made her legs look long and graceful. Her heels added a few inches to her height, making her look confident.

Alessio stared at her.

Daisy had not expected to see him here.

Finally, Alessio spoke.

"Sit down," he said. His voice was calm and professional, but there was a faint stiffness beneath it.

Daisy nodded slowly. She walked toward the chair in front of the desk and sat down. Her hands were clasped in her lap, her fingers trembling slightly.

Alessio looked at her, then clicked on his laptop. The screen loaded, and he looked at her resume on the screen.

He looked back at her.

"Let’s begin," he said. He pulled out the paper Rafael had given him, while Mr. Henderson looked at Daisy carefully from the side.

Alessio glanced at the first question and paused. His jaw tightened.

He read it silently.

What is your favorite scent?

He looked at Daisy, then back at the paper.

His expression was unreadable.

He cleared his throat. "First question. What is your favorite scent?"

Daisy blinked. She stared at him, her mind blank. She had been prepared for questions about her qualifications, her experience, her skills. She had not been prepared for this.

She typed on her phone.

I am sorry. I don’t understand the question. Is this about the job?

Alessio read the screen and looked back at the paper. His jaw tightened further.

"Are you applying for the perfumery department?" he asked.

Daisy’s eyes lit up. She nodded eagerly and typed quickly.

Yes. I have a degree in perfumery. I thought this job was for that department.

Alessio stared at the paper. He was going to murder Rafael slowly and painfully.

He looked back at Daisy. His expression remained flat.

"Yes," he said. "It is. The question is relevant. What is your favorite scent?"

Daisy hesitated. Then she typed.

Lavender. It reminds me of my mother. She used to grow it in our garden.

She held out the screen.

Alessio read the words.

"Good answer," he said. "Next question. What do you do for fun?"

Daisy’s brow furrowed. Her eyes widened in shock.
