Mafia Lord's Mute Sweetheart

Chapter 107 Don’t hope for anything

Chapter 107: Chapter 107 Don’t hope for anything

"Are you drunk?!"

Cedric snapped. His blue eyes were sharp, almost wild as he stared at her.

"Do you know who you’re asking about? Your love rival! You’re my wife, do you understand that? Even if I am married to you, I was still physical with Jessica. I spent nights with her. I held her. I kissed her. I—"

He grabbed her chin roughly, tilting her face upward.

Daisy’s eyes widened. Her lips parted slightly, pouting like a goldfish as his fingers pressed into her skin. It wasn’t painful but it was firm, holding her in place.

"So are you really asking about her?" His voice dropped, low and dangerous. "Or do you want to know how me and she are doing? Is that it? Are you trying to find out if she broke up with me? If there’s a chance for you?"

He searched her face, his eyes scanning every flicker of emotion.

The more he thought about it, the more convinced he became.

Daisy was asking about Jessica because she wanted to know if there was still a relationship between them. Maybe she thought Jessica had left him. Maybe she thought there was an opening, a chance for her to finally step in.

She was his wife. She had always wanted him. She had always looked at him with those soft, hopeful eyes.

And now she was asking about Jessica?

Cedric’s jaw tightened.

He didn’t know why he felt so irritated. He should have been indifferent. He should have shrugged it off. But something about her calm, gentle question had struck a nerve deep inside him.

"You’re my wife," he repeated, his voice rough. "Even if I don’t love you, even if I never touch you, you’re still my wife. Do you understand what that means?"

Daisy’s eyes glistened. She tried to nod but his grip on her chin held her still.

He leaned closer, his breath warm against her face.

"Jessica is not leaving. She’s not going anywhere. And I’m not leaving her. So whatever you’re hoping for—" He paused, his eyes boring into hers. "Forget it."

Daisy blinked.

Tears welled in her eyes, but she didn’t let them fall. She couldn’t. She had learned long ago not to cry in front of him.

She simply stared at him.

She hadn’t been asking because she wanted to know if Jessica had left him. She hadn’t been hoping for anything.

She had just been curious. That was all.

But Cedric wouldn’t believe her. He was too angry, too convinced that she was scheming, hoping, wanting something she couldn’t have.

She gently touched his wrist.

His grip loosened slightly, and she used the opportunity to pull her chin free. She rubbed the spot where his fingers had been, then reached for her notebook.

She wrote slowly, her hand trembling slightly.

I wasn’t asking because I wanted to know if you broke up. I was just curious. That’s all. I’m sorry if I made you angry.

She turned the notebook toward him.

Cedric read the words.

His expression flickered. For a moment, something softened in his eyes. Then it hardened again.

He didn’t say anything.

He simply looked at her.

Daisy lowered her notebook and looked down at her lap. Her shoulders were tense, her fingers wrapped tightly around the edges of the notebook.

Cedric watched her for a long moment. The anger slowly faded from his face, replaced by something quieter.

Then, without a word, he turned and walked toward the door.

He paused at the threshold.

"Don’t ask about her again."

Then he was gone.

Daisy sat alone in her room, still trembling slightly.

She touched her chin, where his fingers had been.

She didn’t understand him.

She had asked a simple question, and he had exploded.

She didn’t understand anything about him anymore. She didn’t understand why he was angry.

She just wanted to know if Jessica was okay. That was all.

Daisy took a long, calming shower.

The warm water cascaded over her tired body, washing away the exhaustion from work but her thoughts kept drifting back to Cedric.

She turned off the water and stepped out, wrapping herself in a soft towel. She dried her hair slowly, her movements mechanical, her mind still heavy.

She changed into a simple cream-colored sweater and a long beige skirt. The fabric was soft and warm, comforting against her skin. She loosely tied her damp hair behind her back, letting a few strands fall around her face.

She looked at herself in the mirror.

Her eyes... They were slightly red.

She gently splashed cold water onto her face, hoping it would hide the evidence. She patted her skin dry and looked again.

It didn’t help much.

A soft knock came from the door.

"Mrs. Daisy," one of the maids called respectfully from outside. "Sir is waiting for you downstairs for dinner."

Daisy hesitated.

She hadn’t expected this. Usually, no one called her for dinner. Usually, she ate alone in her room, or not at all. The maids rarely bothered to inform her of meals and Jenna had made it clear that she wasn’t welcome at the family table.

And after everything that had happened earlier, she wasn’t sure she wanted to face Cedric again.

Still...

She quietly nodded to herself. She couldn’t avoid him forever. She lived in this house and he was her husband. Sooner or later, she would have to face him.

Taking a slow breath, she picked up her notebook and pen and walked downstairs.

The dining room was brightly lit.

The long table had already been prepared with several dishes. Steam rose from warm plates and the soft glow of the chandelier cast a golden light across the table wood. The room smelled of roasted meat and fresh herbs.

Cedric was already seated.

Unlike his usual business attire, he was dressed casually in a black sweater and light gray trousers. His hair was still slightly damp, as though he had also showered not long ago. He looked relaxed and effortlessly handsome, his sharp features softened by the warm light.

The moment Daisy entered, his gaze instinctively found her. His blue eyes slowly traveled over her figure before settling on her face.

He immediately noticed her eyes. Slightly swollen. A little red.

The corners of his lips lifted almost imperceptibly.

For some reason, that sight strangely satisfied him.
