Mafia Lord's Mute Sweetheart

Chapter 106 He’s Back

Chapter 106: Chapter 106 He’s Back

Two more days later...

After returning from work, Daisy unlocked the door to her bedroom. The day had been long but satisfying. She was tired, her body aching from standing for hours.

The moment she stepped inside, she froze. Her eyes widened in surprise.

Cedric was sitting on the edge of her bed.

He was dressed casually, his white shirt unbuttoned at the collar, his dark hair slightly messy. His long legs were crossed and in his hands were several sheets of paper.

They were her laboratory notes.

Hearing the door open, Cedric lifted his blue eyes toward her.

"Oh."

He stood up leisurely, his movements unhurried.

"You’re back."

Daisy stared at him in shock for a moment before slowly nodding. Her heart raced but she forced herself to remain calm.

She raised her hand and made a small gesture.

You’re back...?

She hadn’t expected him to return home today. He had been gone for so long that she had almost forgotten what it felt like to see him in her room.

Cedric walked toward her. His eyes instinctively swept over her appearance.

She was dressed in neatly fitted work clothes, simple yet elegant. A soft cream blouse tucked into tailored black trousers. Her long hair rested naturally over her shoulders, slightly windswept from the walk home. Her face was completely bare except for the faint pink tint on her lips.

She looked fresh, natural and beautiful.

For some reason, the sight pleased him. His gaze lingered on her face for a moment longer than necessary before returning to her eyes.

"So," he said, his voice calm but curious. "You’ve started working?"

Daisy nodded.

The moment Cedric had returned home earlier that afternoon, Jenna had immediately called him.

According to her, Daisy had been acting suspiciously, leaving the mansion every single day. Jenna’s voice had been sharp, accusing, filled with insinuations.

Since Jenna couldn’t return herself, she insisted Cedric investigate.

He had.

To his surprise, Daisy wasn’t secretly meeting anyone. She hadn’t been sneaking around or hiding anything sinister.

She had simply gotten a job.

After investigation, he discovered she was working at Kuursh Pharma’s perfume research laboratory. The information had genuinely surprised him.

He hadn’t known Daisy possessed such professional knowledge.

In fact, he realized he knew almost nothing about the woman he had married. He didn’t know what she had studied. What she liked. What she disliked. What dreams she once had. Before their marriage, her life had been a complete mystery to him.

Daisy quietly opened her notebook and wrote.

I started working. I asked for your permission before accepting the job.

Cedric lowered his eyes and read her neat handwriting. His gaze lingered on the words for a moment.

Then, almost absentmindedly, he flipped to the previous page.

His curiosity had been piqued.

Page after page revealed little handwritten conversations, reminders, laboratory notes and messages she had exchanged with people during the day. There were notes about experiments, little doodles in the margins and even a small smiley face next to a successful test.

Before he could continue...

The notebook suddenly disappeared from his hands.

Cedric looked up.

Daisy had gently but firmly taken it back. She hugged it lightly against her chest, her fingers curling around the edges.

For the first time, a faint trace of displeasure appeared in her eyes.

She couldn’t explain why. It wasn’t that the notebook contained any great secrets. But it was personal. It held her conversations, her thoughts and little pieces of her daily life.

Watching someone read through it without asking made her feel as though her privacy had quietly been invaded.

And for perhaps the first time, she felt just a little angry at Cedric.

Cedric frowned slightly. He hadn’t expected her to react that way, but he didn’t comment. He simply watched her, his expression unreadable.

Daisy quietly walked farther into the room and placed her work bag on the bed.

To her surprise, Cedric followed her.

She turned around, looking at him with questioning eyes.

Why was he still here?

Cedric stopped a few steps away. For a moment, he simply looked at her. There was something different in his gaze now. Less indifferent. More... curious.

"So," he asked calmly, "how is your work? What exactly do you do there?"

Daisy blinked.

She was exhausted after spending the entire day in the laboratory. All she wanted was to take a warm shower, change into comfortable clothes and lie down for a while.

Yet Cedric made no move to leave.

It seemed he actually intended to stay and wait for her answer.

Daisy quietly sat down on the edge of the bed. She opened her notebook and began writing.

I work in the perfume research laboratory. We test fragrance formulas, analyze ingredients, check their stability, and help improve them before they are released. Recently, our team has been trying to solve a problem with a new perfume.

She turned the notebook toward Cedric.

He read it carefully. "...Interesting."

There was genuine interest in his voice.

He hadn’t expected her work to involve research.

For some reason, it made him look at her a little differently.

After a brief silence, Daisy lowered her eyes and wrote another question.

Where is Jessica?

She held the notebook up for him to read.

The moment Cedric saw the name... His expression changed.

The faint curiosity in his eyes disappeared. His blue eyes narrowed slightly as he looked back at Daisy.

"...Why are you asking about Jessica?"

Daisy blinked.

She simply looked at him, waiting quietly for his answer.

Cedric found himself staring at her.

As his wife... Shouldn’t Daisy hate Jessica?

Shouldn’t she avoid mentioning her name?

Or at least feel uncomfortable hearing about the woman who openly held her husband’s heart?

Yet...

She had asked about Jessica so naturally.

There wasn’t a trace of bitterness on her face. For some reason... Cedric couldn’t understand her.

After a long pause, he finally answered.

"She’s abroad. She’ll be back in a few weeks."

Daisy nodded gently.

Relieved, she smiled faintly before writing another sentence.

I hope she’s doing well.

Cedric read the words. His brows furrowed even deeper.

She was... wishing Jessica well?
