Chapter 57: HIS UNHINGED FIANCEE
Chapter 57: HIS UNHINGED FIANCEE
TRISTAN
I drove home with a boner and a curse on my lips the entire way.
Laura. That woman has got the fucking wheels in her grip and she’s driving me insane, over the edge.
What was that tease back at the restaurant?
God. I’d forgotten how good her pussy felt in my fingers...how much she leaked for me.
How long would I have to endure this torture for? Why did she keep holding back? Was this all because of that one incident in the past? Was there something else she was keeping from me? Something I did and knew nothing about?
I mean...it just did not make a lot of sense to me that she’d be punishing me like this because of that one incident which only had something to do with me indirectly. The case about corporate theft.
There was no denying the fact that I was an asshole. I was back then, even now. I just did a really good job of hiding it sometimes. That was how I got her back then, wasn’t it? I was able to hide my status as CEO and get Laura into my bed, as a fellow intern.
So why couldn’t I just take care of this problem? Why did I have to deal with messy emotions I couldn’t even understand?
Fuck. I adjusted my boner for the umpteenth time in the driver’s seat as I pulled the navy blue Escalade into the driveway of my penthouse.
Despite my frustration, I could count tonight as a win because I’d managed to get my hands up her panties—when we should have been doing something entirely different.
I wanted more, but this was something...tonight was. It was proof that we were getting somewhere. There’s no smoke without fire, right?
And the way she held my cock. God. I couldn’t stop thinking about it, how good and soft her hand had felt against the taut skin.
So much for strategy dinner one. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t hope for things to go down the track it did tonight.
I started to reach for my suit jacket in the passenger seat until I remembered I had left it with her.
Smiling, I climbed out of the car and made my way inside. Until the smile got completely wiped from my face when I saw Madison in the kitchen, stirring something on the gas cooker, an apron firmly fastened on her waist.
She tossed me a cold-ass-bitch smile over her shoulder the moment she heard me walk through the door. "I was beginning to wonder when you’d get home. I’m making—"
"I want none of it. Suit yourself." I was genuinely tired of having her around unannounced, and it seemed like the best thing to do right now was ignore her like she didn’t even exist. Hit by a sudden depressive realization that I might have to deal with this for a couple years in marriage with Madison, I turned on my heels and walked out, heading straight for my room.
But another surprise hit me before I could even make ten steps of escape away.
It was my mother’s voice in real time, coming from down the hallway on the east wing.
"Tristan, darling!" her squeaky voice reached me where I stood, clearer than the static sounds that filled my ears on days I wished to not hear them the most.
My jaw ticked hard as I turned slowly, just in time to catch her from spinning that obnoxious hug my way. "Mother," I said simply, regarding her with carefulness.
"What..."
"What am I doing here?" she piped, then she slapped my upper arm. "Of course I’m here for your upcoming wedding, darling. How much of a bad son can you be to your ailing mother, huh?! To not even think of mentioning it to me? If you would take my calls, at least!"
The insides of my chest flamed hot as I realized that someone must have told her about the wedding. Or did she see it on the news? That was one of the more likely options.
"You shouldn’t be here," was all I could manage. Standing so close to this woman, it was difficult to not think about the horrible childhood years of my life. I could see some parts of myself in her, and that hurt on a different level. The sun kissed skin. The sharp blue eyes.
I winced in pain as it all came rushing back with a burst. The memories irked and broke my calm and collected demeanour...because I thought I had this part of my life under control.
"That’s not what you say to your mother whom you haven’t seen in the longest."
"And whose fault is that, huh?" I barked out before I could stop myself. "Whose fault is it that—"
"Tristan, you don’t have to do this," she interrupted, wearing a hurt expression that further ripped my heart to shreds. "We agreed to never talk about it, remember?"
"And we agreed you don’t show up like this. We agreed on a whole lot which you always end up breaking, anyway!"
Cursing loudly, I turned on my heels and stormed back towards the kitchen. There was only one person who I could think of who would be audacious enough to pull this stunt.
Madison was standing very still by the blazing gas cooker, her back to the door, when I returned.
"Madison, what the hell?!" I dashed into the kitchen and grabbed the cover of the pan off the counter. Then I slammed it over the raging fire escaping from the pan.
She just stood there unabashed, staring at a photograph in her hands. It was only after my breathing had evened out a bit, and I wasn’t raging so hot anymore, that I saw whose photograph it was.
It was a shot of Laura and I, heading out of the restaurant where we’d had our first strategy dinner, in fact, just a few hours ago.
My eyes burned hot as I snatched the photograph from her fingers. "Did you put a tail on me?"
The problem of having my mother over unannounced, quickly got overshadowed by the realization that Madison was a silent trap I was slowly stepping into.
Her lips widened into a smile, and this one was far from friendly or sweet. "Doing dinner dates with women other than your wife-to-be now, huh?"
"Answer my question," I gritted, curling the photograph into a ball. "Did you put a fucking tail on me?"
She shrugged, tilting her chin to meet my gaze. "Well, what do you think?"
My fist came down gard on the gas cooker, sending the pan flying up. And Madison jumped in shock, eyes widening.
"Are you unhinged?" I jammed a finger against my skull. "Do you have a few screws loose up here? More than a few? Huh?!"
"Did you expect me to sit at home doing nothing while you go about gallivanting with these women? Especially that one?! Do you know how much harm you’re doing to my reputation and—"
"You know what?" I shook my head in disbelief, turning away, trying to put a rein on my emotions. "You should leave. Now. I don’t want to see you by the time I get back down, or you wouldn’t believe my next move."
"Tristan! It’s almost midnight!"
"That’s your problem," I spat under my breath, my heart growing dark with a new resolve.
