Chapter 1701: Netherworld Mess
Chapter 1701: Netherworld Mess
"Lythero, what the hell, man?!"
When Zhen Liu opened the door to where Lythero was dumped, he had prepared himself for the worst.
He had honestly expected that Lythero’s display of violent might would’ve accidentally decapitated someone or render an entire landscape into a destroyed hellscape.
He did not expect the man to somehow open a rift in space to a hell world that somehow made the average wandering ruin look like a fucking sinkhole...even though he was warned about that exact thing just moments ago.
Granted, he also thought Logos and Pathos were just messing with him again.
"OH THANK THE GODS YOU’RE HERE!"
The moment the swordsman saw his best friend, he immediately began to act less like the domineering presence that he had shown off in the library and more like a panicking young man who was caught sleeping with his boss’s wife.
Or, in this case, accidentally leaving the doors to a prison open.
Already, Zhen Liu could sense and see messed up spirits attempting to wiggle their way out of the hole that Lythero had just created.
’Wait...fuck!’
Not only that, but he could sense several incredibly powerful auras flying towards this rift at breakneck speeds.
In other words, shit was about to go sideways real fast unless Zhen Liu resolved the issues faster.
Which first meant he had to calm down his friend who was acting uncharacteristically more dramatic than usual.
Lythero was essentially babbling with no punctuation or grammar at this point, but he could parse out that the man was saying, "Oh thank the gods that you’re here, when I swung my sword upward, I thought it would just release a wave of energy and not rip open a hole in space-time, and I’m now realizing I’m talking faster than normal, what the fuck is going on?!"
(If you want to know how this sounded like on a more immersive level, remove all of the spacing and speed it up by a factor of two).
Zhen Liu, thankfully, was able to handle this problem...sort of.
He had Logos and Pathos to help with this sort of shit for a reason.
...Uh oh...
’Logos, Pathos. What the fuck is going on?!’
=It appears that the [Sword of Naraka] was a bit too compatible with Lythero, and the man had yet to acclimate and control the power properly. Not to worry milord, I have already calculated a method for you to seal off that rift into Naraka. It’ll honestly be easier since you’ll be tapping into the Library’s reserves instead of your own.=
’Hallelujah!’
<That’s the boring method, though, Pathos pointed out. It would be much more fun and profitable to fight the Aether Saints and see what goodies you can extract from Naraka. All those [Desires] and [Karma] getting extracted make for wonderful cores,> Pathos added like they were the devil on Zhen Liu’s shoulder. <The Kaijin can handle those guys.>
[No the fuck we can’t,] Nepherage answered for fellow kaijin. [Those assholes have aether dense enough to overwhelm our Chaos-based defenses. We aren’t fighting that today.]
Zhen Liu was in total agreement with this statement, by the way.
’Yeah...I already have a mad shard of a god to deal with; I’m not dealing with motherfuckers that are clearly stronger than them. Logos, what’s the plan?’
=Well...=
...Time to show instead of tell...
"Lythero, get your ass back into the library; we’ll figure out what the fuck happened later."
"What about the rift?!"
"I got it handled; now get in the fucking floor door!"
"Fine!"
Like he was jumping into a pool, Lythero jumped down the floor door and returned to the library.
Zhen Liu heard the man crash into a pile of something metallic, but he wasn’t paying attention to the swordmaster’s antics. His eyes were fixed solely at the rift in the sky and the monstrous scenes of the Eight Hot Narakas.
"And just like everything else, the books do not do this horrific scene any justice," Zhen Liu said to himself as he readied his [Key to Everywhere].
As a learned man, and wanting to make sure he maintained a good understanding of how to better pretend to be a demon lord, Zhen Liu made it a point to learn about the various interpretations of hell from around the world.
Everyone feared the concept of being punished in the afterlife for their sinful lives, but nobody could really come to an agreement of what that punishment looked like...other than the idea that it was incredibly fucking painful.
In the case of Buddhist Hell though, Naraka, the punishment wasn’t permanent.
A bad person would be sent to one of these hells, depending on the severity of their crime, and then they would be tortured until the very last bit of evil karma was squeezed out of.
These tortures were uniquely horrific and were essentially eternal executions that would drive most observers and victims mad.
However, to a select few, this imagery was something that was almost inspiring.
It made the faithless fearful and open to the idea of worshipping a god, while it made those with spiritual focuses in their heart more and more likely that they would go mad from the acting of studying.
Either way, this rift was a font of information and power to practically every level of cultivation...which is why he needed to seal it up as soon as possible.
"Okay, I just need to focus the power of the library and...bang!"
Channeling the power of the library into the key until it started to glow, Zhen Liu aimed at the rift and opened fire.
Zhen Liu half expected to need to hold his current pose and use the beam to seal the rift like one would soder a gash of metal close, or that there would be a huge explosion of energy as the concentrated [Chaos] impacted the rift.
But nope, none of that happened.
Instead, a tiny beam of energy impacted the rift and the whole thing disappeared like a soap bubble.
Needless to say, Zhen Liu was simultaneously relieved, confused, and mildly disappointed.
"Huh..."
However, Zhen Liu soon got over this feeling of disappointment and proceeded to hop back down the door he just made and returned to the library.
Just in the nick of time too, as the Saints who sensed this disturbance had just arrived to investigate whatever bullshit caused this incident.
...Scene change...
"Okay, so I guess you and the sword are getting along swimmingly," Zhen Liu commented as soon as he had returned to the library and turned to look at Lythero.
At this point in time, the man had more or less recovered from his crash landing and prior bout of unrestrained power to the point of looking a touch embarrassed over the whole affair.
At least, that was the impression Zhen Liu got when he saw Lythero crouching down while covering his face with his hands while his brand new sword was hovering around him like a supportive fairy...wait a minute.
"Lythero...neither Axer nor I planned to give the sword the ability to do that...are you doing that?"
"No," Lythero answered between his hands. "She offered to do that after I said I needed to—"
"Wait a minute, ’she’? Did you just say the sword is a girl?!" Zhen Liu asked in alarm.
He didn’t feel a connection to the weapon, so it definitely wasn’t a kaijin. But the fact that it was a sentient weapon was a whole other kettle of fish.
Making a sentient aether treasure was one of the holy grails of treasure making, so the fact that Lythero’s sword was not only using an ability that was a first of its kind in this world, but was also sentient meant that it’s ranking was well beyond the normal Bronze to Diamond scale that most aether treasures were measured on.
This was the kind of thing that only Aether Saints and above could make.
"I AM ONE OF THE GREATEST TREASURE MAKERS IN THE WORLD!" Axer shouted in the background as soon as he heard Lythero’s words.
Not wanting to ruin Axer’s moment of euphoria, Zhen Liu brought the attention back to Lythero and his new partner in battle.
"Okay...so...she can float?"
"She can actually do a lot of things," Lythero said as he took in a breath and stood back on to his feet, getting over his embarrassment. "But for the time being, she can do what you had planned out for her to do. Check it."
Taking the sword out of the air, Lythero swung it around a few times before having it transform into physical copies of the original seven swords he had lost in the heat of battle.
However, unlike those previous times, he seemed to be able to swing around these new ones even better than the old ones.
Evidently, while they weren’t as nostalgic as the originals, they seemed to be fit his hands better.
"And now...I think we’re ready to go and take out that bastard Duke and all the fuckers he made alliances with."
"Yeah...about that..."
Now that Zhen Liu had fixed up Lythero’s sword, it was now time to give him the semi-awkward news.
"If we do that now, we won’t have any kaijin power to help yet."
