Chapter 402: You Scared Him
Chapter 402: You Scared Him
Seeing that she had woken up, Christopher hurried forward to hold her hand.
"Janice, are you okay?"
He squatted down and came close to her, his deep eyes full of unease.
Janice lay there, looking at him quietly, "I’m fine, but you... Why are your eyes red?"
Only then did Christopher realize that he had lost control of his emotions. He quickly wiped his eyes and said, "The wind blew into my eyes."
"Is that so?"
Janice saw through it but didn’t point it out.
She knew that he must be very anxious outside.
"Where are the babies?" she asked.
"They’re outside," Christopher replied.
"What do you think? Are they cute?"
Janice couldn’t help smiling.
Christopher’s eyes darkened.
"I... haven’t seen them yet."
"How could you be like this?"
Janice grumbled as she frowned. "I had a hard time giving birth to babies. How could you not even look at them? Don’t you like them?"
Hearing Janice’s words, Christopher panicked a little. "No, I... I don’t dislike them. I’m just worried about you. I’ll go and see them right away. Don’t be angry."
As he spoke, he ran out in a hurry.
Janice couldn’t help laughing, but when she thought of the wound on her belly, she quickly held back.
"You scared him."
Yvonne shook her head as she walked to the bedside.
When she met Christopher at the door just now, his face was ashen white.
Janice held back her laughter. "I was just trying to distract him and let him experience the joy of being a father for the first time."
"I think he only has eyes for you in his heart." Yvonne teased.
Janice smiled and said sincerely, "Thank you, Yvonne."
"For what? I help you with nothing," Yvonne said.
Janice smiled, but her eyes unconsciously looked in the direction of the door.
Yvonne could see the worry in her eyes and comforted her. "Don’t worry. The two babies are very healthy. However, you’re so careless that you don’t even know that you’re pregnant with twins."
Hearing this, Janice lowered her gaze. "It’s not that I don’t know. In fact, I already knew before I was in labor. It’s just that I want to go into spontaneous labor, and I consulted a doctor at that time. It’s feasible, but I need to suffer a little."
"It isn’t just a little pain. Even the delivery period is half the time longer than the birth of a single child. You really are stubborn."
"But in the end, I still listened to your advice and had an operation."
Janice said regretfully.
Yvonne laughed and did not continue this topic. She glanced at the wound on her body, which had just been stitched up. It looked a little shocking, and her heart could not help but ache for her.
"Does it hurt?"
"The effect of anesthetic is not fully gone yet. It doesn’t hurt much." Janice said.
Only then did Yvonne feel reassured. She looked at Janice lying there and asked, "Tell me what it’s like to give birth to children?"
An intrigued expression appeared on her face.
Janice pondered for a moment and said, "It hurt, but I was so happy. When I saw the babies, I felt that the whole world was beautiful, especially when I heard the babies’ cry. I dared to say that it was the most beautiful sound in the world. In short, you’ll know when you become a mother one day."
Janice’s eyes were filled with anticipation.
It could be seen that she was really happy.
On the way back, James was driving while Yvonne was sitting in the passenger seat.
She leaned against the car window and kept thinking about Janice’s earlier description.
She would probably never know what it felt like in this life.
Thinking about it, her heart couldn’t help but sink to the bottom.
In fact, she was not that obsessed with having a child.
It would be great if she could have a baby. After all, it was the continuation of her life.
If she couldn’t have a baby, she wouldn’t seem to be that upset.
But it was different for James.
He was the only son of the Taylors.
For a family like the Taylors, they needed someone to inherit their legacy.
Besides, she still had to take Mrs. Taylor into consideration.
Mrs. Taylor wanted a grandson so much.
Therefore, it was impossible for James to give up the idea of not having a child in his life.
However, Yvonne wondered what she should do.
What’s more, she couldn’t have a child.
Thinking of this, Yvonne couldn’t help but frown unconsciously.
"What’s wrong with you today? You seem a bit off. Did something happen?" James suddenly said.
He had been paying attention to her for a long time. She hadn’t said much since she came out of the hospital, and she seemed to be preoccupied.
Only then did Yvonne come to her senses. "No, I’m fine." She said as she lowered her eyes.
Hearing her say that, James didn’t think much of it and asked, "By the way, you went to the hospital to get the report. What did the doctor say?"
In the end, he asked anyway.
Yvonne glanced out the window.
"The doctor said that I was very healthy."
James chuckled. "I told you that we are both healthy."
The smile on his face was like a needle piercing her heart.
She looked out of the window and pondered for a long time before asking, "James, have you ever thought about what to do if we couldn’t have a child?"
She turned to stare at the side of his face.
However, James did not look over. Instead, he held the steering wheel and said without thinking, "It’s okay if you can’t get pregnant. Anyway, we’re not getting married for having a child."
He didn’t seem to care about this question.
Yvonne’s heart was filled with mixed feelings.
"What if... I can’t get pregnant for the rest of my life?" She asked again.
James then glanced at her and was stunned for a moment before replying, "Then
let’s not have a child."
"What about Mom? How are you going to explain this to her?" Yvonne said as she stared at him nervously.
James did not answer her question immediately but fell into silence. After a long while, he replied, "That’s a tough problem." Obviously, he had thought about it for a long time. "However, why did you suddenly ask that question?" He seemed to have suddenly realized something.
Only then did Yvonne quickly look away and look out of the window in disguise. She said, "Something came to my mind after seeing Janice giving birth to a child."
Hearing her words, James smiled and said, "Are you scared? Don’t worry. If you’re really scared, let’s not have a baby. I’ll tell my mother then."
Hearing his words, Yvonne lowered her head.
She thought, <Perhaps, he really could accept that he would be childless for the rest of his life.
But can he really convince Mrs. Taylor? >
Her heart was filled with uncertainty.
But even so, she felt relieved by those answers he had just given.
However, on second thought, the hypothetical questions were still assumptions.
In the absence of real situations, all the answers were meaningless.
She was afraid that the answer would only be genuine when that day came.
However, she had not thought of how to tell him yet.
She waited until the car stopped at the door of her house, but she still couldn’t muster up the courage to tell him her physical condition.
She thought, "Forget it. I will tell him later."
Besides, she was tired today, for she had been nervous in the hospital for too long.
When she got home, she went back to her bedroom. As soon as she lay in bed, her cell phone rang before she closed her eyes.
...
She picked it up and saw that it was Mrs. Taylor calling. She immediately sat up.
She stared at the constantly leaping number on the screen and hesitated for a long time before answering the phone.
"Mom."
"Yvonne, did I disturb you doing your job?"
Mrs. Taylor’s kind voice came from the other end of the line.
Yvonne lowered her eyes and said, "No. Mom, go ahead."
"That’s good. I just want to know when you will come back with James. You’ve both been away on business for so long."
Hearing this, Yvonne remembered that James had told her that he had lied to Mrs.
Taylor that they were on a business trip.
Yvonne wondered how she should reply.
She was in a dilemma. And then she paused and said, "Soon."
"How long will it take? Can you tell me a specific date? Don’t learn from that brat, who only knew how to lie to me all day long." Mrs. Taylor complained.
Yvonne felt a little ashamed. If it weren’t for her, James wouldn’t have lied to Mrs.
Taylor like this.
She felt somewhat bad about it. After a pause, she said, "Mom, I’ll go back with James tomorrow."
Hearing this, Mrs. Taylor immediately became excited. "All right, I won’t disturb you working anymore. I’ll get someone to cook something delicious and wait for you two at home tomorrow."
Mrs. Taylor hung up the phone happily.
However, Yvonne could not help but frown.
Although James told the lie, she had to correct it.
However, she felt depressed at the thought of going back to face Mrs. Taylor.
"Yvonne, did you promise my mom that we would go home tomorrow?"
While she was worrying, James rushed in with a phone in his hand. Obviously, he was talking to his mother.
Yvonne nodded and said, "Yes, I did."
James hung up the phone and said to her, "Didn’t we agree to take the opportunity to move out?"
James looked puzzled.
Yvonne paused and said, "James, I know you’re doing this because of me, but I don’t want you to do this. Mom must have pushed you several times."
James did not say anything, which meant that he had acquiesced.
Yvonne knew that this was one of the reasons why she had agreed.
"You must know your mother’s temper better than I do. If she didn’t mind, she wouldn’t keep calling to urge us to go back. Do you think she would agree to us moving out like this?"
James held his forehead in distress.
"Instead of hiding, avoiding, and making her worry and unhappy, we might as well go back and have a good talk with her. Maybe she will agree with our decision."
"But what if she doesn’t agree?"
"Well... It’s not too late for us to figure something else out."
"No, it took us a lot of effort to move out." James objected.
Yvonne also knew that it was not easy for them to move out.
In fact, she promised Mrs. Taylor to go back for her reasons, and she wanted to take the opportunity to see how persistent Mrs. Taylor was in wanting to have grandchildren.
Thinking of this, she said comfortingly, "Don’t worry, there’s always a solution to everything."
Hearing her say that, James was helpless.
In fact, he just didn’t want her to feel any pressure.
But since she had said so, he couldn’t say anything else.
The next day, the two of them went back to the Taylors’ old mansion together.
Mrs. Taylor saw the two of them with empty hands and was puzzled. "Where is your luggage?"
Hearing this, Yvonne and James looked at each other.
James said, "Mom, Yvonne and I have something to discuss with you."
Seeing the grim look on their faces, Mrs. Taylor paused for a moment before saying, "It’s time for dinner. Let’s talk about it after dinner."
Mrs. Taylor said as she was about to start preparing dinner.
James stopped her. "Mom, it’s still early. It’s not too late to eat later."
Seeing how anxious he was, Mrs. Taylor frowned. "Why are you in such a hurry? Can’t you wait to talk to me after dinner? Even if you’re not hungry, Yvonne could be
hungry. Aren’t you, Yvonne?"
Mrs. Taylor looked at her.
Only then did Yvonne say, "That’s right. Let’s talk about it after dinner."
She gave James a look.
However, James did not follow her instructions. Instead, he pulled Mrs. Taylor to the sofa in the living room.
"Mom, I have to make it clear to you."
Seeing how persistent he was, Mrs. Taylor had to compromise. "Fine, go ahead."
Hearing this, James said, "Mom, this time, Yvonne and I came back to discuss with you about moving out."
"Moving out?"
Hearing this, Mrs. Taylor’s face changed.
"Yes, moving out. I’ve grown up, so it’s not appropriate for me to live with you every day. Besides, Yvonne and I have also thought about living on our own," said James.
Mrs. Taylor’s face turned pale. Instead of answering James’s question, she softened her expression and looked at Yvonne.
"Yvonne, is that what you mean?"
Yvonne was torn. She did want to test Mrs. Taylor’s attitude, but she couldn’t bear to hurt her.
For a moment, she didn’t know how to answer.
"Yvonne, come on! " James urged.
Mrs. Taylor was also waiting for her response.
She paused for a moment before saying, "Mom, I..."
"That’s enough. Yvonne, you don’t need to say anything. I know you’re torn inside. I also know that you young people don’t like living with an old woman like me. It’s okay. I respect your decisions. You can move out if you want."
After saying that, Mrs. Taylor slowly stood up and went towards her room, looking disappointed.
"Mom..."
Yvonne wanted to go after her, but Mrs. Taylor had already closed the door.
She could only stop, feeling extremely uneasy inside.
She could not help but look at James with resentment in her eyes.
She had reminded him not to say anything before.
James realized that he had been too reckless.
He thought that his mother would disagree, but he didn’t expect her to have such a big reaction.
For a moment, he was at a loss. Just when he was feeling annoyed, the maid walked up to him and asked, "Mr. Taylor, do you still want to have dinner?"
James frowned and said, "Put it over then."
Hearing this, the maid nodded. She turned around and was about to leave when she thought of something. She turned around and said, "Mr. Taylor, please allow me to say something. When you and your wife were away, Mrs. Taylor was depressed every day. She kept asking us how many days you and your wife had been away and when you would come back. When she heard that you and your wife would come back yesterday, Mrs. Taylor was very happy. She sent us out early in the morning to buy ingredients just to make a meal for you."
The maid sighed and turned to leave.
James held his head with a guilty look.
Yvonne had mixed feelings in her heart.
If she had known that Mrs. Taylor was like this, she would have stopped him saying that earlier.
She glanced at James, who was blaming himself, paused and said, "Go and tell Mom that we are not moving out."
"Yvonne..."
James looked at her.
"I know that you don’t want me to live in an uncomfortable environment. In fact, it’s not as serious as you think. On the contrary, I even feel that it’s very nice to live at your home. Every day, there are hot dishes waiting for me at home, and your mother takes care of us meticulously. How many people can’t get all of these even if they beg for them? Compared with being free, these are more precious for us to have. What do you think?"
