Flash Marriage: My Penniless Billionaire Husband

Chapter 401: Janice Is In Labor

Chapter 401: Janice Is In Labor

Christopher sounded anxious in the call.

James couldn’t help murmuring, "I also want to know where she is."

"What did you say?" Christopher asked.

James frowned and said, "It’s nothing. Why are you looking for her?"

"Give her the phone."

James said, "No, she’s not with me."

"Where is she?" Christopher asked.

James sighed helplessly. "I don’t know."

"James, I am not joking with you."

Christopher sounded serious.

James replied, "I’m not kidding too. I really don’t know where she is."

On the other end of the line, Christopher was silent for a while before saying, "Contact her and remember to ask her to call me back. I have something urgent to discuss with her."

After that, without waiting for James’ reply, he hung up the phone in a hurry.

Hearing the disconnected tone, James was upset.

"Why are you in such a hurry? I’m more anxious than you. She’s my wife."

But then again, what was wrong with Yvonne? Why didn’t she answer the phone?

"Miss, where are you going? I’ve been driving for more than an hour. If I keep driving like this, my company will penalize me for driving in circles to overcharge you. I’ll be fined."

Yvonne’s taxi driver said helplessly after an hour of aimless driving.

Yvonne also felt that she could not go on like this. She looked out of the window and asked the driver to stop by the side of the road. After paying the fare, she looked around.

It was a business district.

As it was a working day, there were not many pedestrians.

Her phone ran out of battery because it had been ringing for too long.

She found a small tea house on the roadside and ordered a drink casually. While drinking, she charged her phone with a rented power bank.

It was not until she could turn it on that she found that there were several missed

calls. In addition to James’ calls, there were also several calls from Janice.

She didn’t know how to tell James about her situation, so she didn’t return his calls.

But based on her memory, Janice should be about to deliver, so she dialed Janice’s number.

In the hospital’s delivery room.

Janice was lying on the bed. She had just experienced an intense contraction and she looked exhausted. Large beads of sweat were dripping down her forehead and her long black hair was soaked.

Looking at her, Christopher’s heart ached. As he wiped her sweat with a towel, he couldn’t help persuading her.

"Janice, let’s have a caesarean operation, okay? It’s too painful."

"No, I want to have a natural birth. A baby born naturally will be healthier. I can hold on... Ah..."

Janice had just finished speaking when an intense contraction rushed over her once more. She couldn’t help but shriek.

Seeing her in such pain, Christopher’s heart ached, but Janice refused an operation.

Originally, he had wanted to find Yvonne to persuade her.

After all, she was a doctor. Janice might listen to her.

However, he couldn’t get in touch with Yvonne at all. He could only worry, but he couldn’t help.

"Ah..."

With a painful scream, another scratch appeared on Christopher’s arm.

Every time Janice had a contraction, she tried her best to endure it. His heart ached as he looked at her, so he gave her his arm and let her grab him.

...

From the moment he entered the delivery room until now, Janice had scratched him as many times as her uterus had contracted. His arms had already been scratched with numerous bruises.

Some bruises were deep while some were light. Each one was a mark left by Janice in her pain.

However, he did not feel any pain at all. This was nothing compared to the pain Janice had suffered.

As the contraction Janice felt became more and more intense, the expression on her face became more and more painful.

Christopher couldn’t take it anymore. If it went on like this, he would break down.

Then, he almost pleaded. "Janice, listen to me. Please stop giving birth to this baby anymore. Let’s have an operation."

"No... I... can’t give up halfway. I must... carry on."

Janice’s teeth chattered in pain, but she continued to shake her head.

Seeing her in such pain, Christopher was heartbroken, but Janice insisted.

He wondered what he should do.

At this time, Christopher was suffering like a cat on hot bricks.

"Chris, how’s Janice? Has she given birth yet?"

At that moment, Wanda hastily rushed over.

Christopher looked at Wanda with a solemn expression. "She has been in pain all night."

Wanda’s heart tightened when she heard this. Wanda looked at Janice, who was lying there with her shirt half soaked in sweat, and persuaded her. She said, "Janice, be good. Just do the surgery. Don’t try to act tough."

Janice, however, still shook her head.

"Mom, I can do it."

Wanda wanted to persuade her, but seeing that Janice was so persistent, Wanda was heartbroken and didn’t know what to say.

At this moment, the phone suddenly rang. When Christopher heard the ringtone, he quickly picked it up and glanced at it. Seeing that it was from Yvonne, he asked Wanda to take care of Janice before walking out to answer the phone.

"Miss White, can you come to the hospital and help me persuade Janice to do the surgery?"

As soon as the call went through, Christopher anxiously asked.

Once she heard that Janice was in the hospital, Yvonne also panicked. "I’ll be right there."

After saying that, she immediately unplugged the phone and hurriedly took a taxi to rush over.

When Yvonne arrived at the maternity ward of ob-gyn, she heard the nurse say that Janice’s cervix had dilated the width of six fingers.

It showed that she had entered the final stage of contraction.

Yvonne hurried forward and looked at Janice, who was lying in pain on the delivery bed. Her heart was aching for her as she said, "Janice."

Janice was in great pain, but when she saw Yvonne coming, she couldn’t help smiling. "Yvonne, you’re here."

Seeing her in such pain, Yvonne recalled what Christopher had said on the phone. She paused and tried to persuade her. "Janice, stop waiting. Just do the surgery."

"Why did you say that too?" Janice said.

Yvonne said, "Janice, we all know that you want to go into spontaneous labor, but sometimes some pain can be avoided. Now that medicine has developed to such an extent, why should we endure more pain than necessary? Besides, medical treatment is very advanced nowadays, which will not hurt the baby."

"But..."

"No buts. Believe me. I’m a doctor. I promise you."

Hearing Yvonne’s assurance with such confidence, Janice began to waver a little.

She turned to Christopher, who had been with her all the time. He had been with her since last night and never closed his eyes until now.

Then she looked at her mother-in-law, Wanda.

She couldn’t bear to think about how they had been on tenterhooks with her.

Finally, she nodded in agreement.

...

With the encouragement of the crowd, she was pushed into the operating room.

The moment the door to the operating room closed, Christopher, who had been nervous, became even more uneasy.

Although he had been trying to persuade her to have an operation, when she was really pushed into the operating room, he was more worried than before.

After all, there are risks involved in the surgery. Through the door, he couldn’t see what was happening inside.

It would only make him more uneasy.

Thinking of this, he was a little fidgety.

Yvonne had noticed his nervousness and comforted him. "Don’t worry. The C-section will be very safe. Janice will be fine."

Although Christopher nodded at her, he was still not relieved.

The waiting time was unusually long. In the meantime, Christopher asked Wanda to go back first. On the one hand, it was because Old Mr. Allson could not live without the people who took care of him. On the other hand, he needed her to go back and get something.

Not long after Wanda left, James called Yvonne again.

Yvonne thought that even if she did not tell James that she was in the hospital, she would not be able to hide it from him.

She picked it up and told him that she was in the hospital.

It didn’t take long for James to rush over.

When he saw Yvonne standing in the corridor, he instantly let out a sigh of relief.

He was so anxious that he was about to call the police when he couldn’t get through on the phone and couldn’t find her.

He let out a breath, walked up to her, and couldn’t help but ask, "Why didn’t you answer my phone?"

Even though he was complaining, his voice was filled with concern.

"My phone was on silent mode. I put it in the handbag and didn’t hear it. Later, it ran out of battery."

She had no choice but to make up an excuse.

"Then why are you here?" James asked.

Yvonne knew what he wanted to say. And she had deliberately not called him back.

She said with a guilty conscience, "Let’s not talk about this anymore. Janice is still inside. I notice that her husband looks agitated. Go and comfort him."

Hearing her words, James frowned. He was worried to death when he couldn’t reach her.

He still needed someone to comfort him.

"What about you?"

Yvonne pursed her lips and avoided his gaze. "I’ll stay here for a while."

Seeing that she was fine, James did not say anything more and walked toward the operating room.

When he walked over, he saw Christopher standing at the door of the operating room, not sure whether to sit or stand. At that time, he looked like an anxious lion.

James could feel the kind of unapproachable terror emanating from him at a distance.

Even James, who was used to joking with Christopher, had to stop teasing him and stepped forward.

"Do you want to find a place to smoke?" James suggested.

Christopher glanced at him coldly. And he was not in the mood to smoke at all.

He wished he could hang his eyes on the door of the operating room. How could he allow himself to leave there?

When James saw his bloodshot eyes, he immediately stopped asking questions and couldn’t help but say, "Don’t worry. She is just giving birth to a baby. It’s not that scary."

Unexpectedly, his words stirred up the hornet’s nest.

Christopher shot a sharp look at him.

"Of course, you’re not anxious. It’s not your wife who is undergoing the surgery."

He snapped back coldly.

James was rendered speechless at Christopher’s blunt question.

He thought, "My wife is a doctor, not as vulnerable as your wife."

Seeing that he was an eyesore here, he did not stay any longer. He dejectedly returned to Yvonne’s side and met her confused gaze.

James knew what she wanted to ask, so he said, "No one can comfort him now unless his wife comes out now."

Hearing his words, Yvonne did not say anything.

"What’s wrong? You look worried." James asked with a frown.

Yvonne lowered her eyes to hide her emotions and said, "Nothing. I’m just worried about Janice."

James said, "What’s there to worry about? She’s having a baby, not dying."

He said in a light-hearted manner, not noticing the surge of emotions in Yvonne’s eyes.

"Do you think a woman giving birth to a child is very easy?" She asked a little angrily.

James was stunned and realized that she seemed to be angry. He quickly explained, "That’s not what I meant."

"That’s enough. Stop talking." Yvonne cut him off.

She turned her head away.

James was at a loss for words by her sudden outburst of temper. He didn’t know what he had said wrong. And he just didn’t want to make her nervous.

Looking at her being angry, he scratched his head helplessly. He then walked up to her and said, "Don’t be angry. I was wrong, okay?"

Yvonne lowered her head and did not say anything. In fact, she knew that he wanted her to feel relieved.

But she didn’t know what was going on just now. She knew that he didn’t mean that, but she still lost her temper.

At this time, she felt a little uncomfortable and said to him, "I’m sorry. I shouldn’t be angry with you."

"Then are you not angry anymore?"

James deliberately tilted his head to look at her.

Yvonne did not dodge anymore. She looked up at him and said, "I’m not angry anymore."

Hearing this, James was relieved.

At that moment, the door of the delivery room opened.

"Where is Janice’s family?" A nurse in a sterile gown came out from inside towards a few people and asked.

"I am," said Christopher, striding forwards.

Seeing him coming alone, the nurse said, "One person is not enough. I need two."

Hearing this, Yvonne quickly walked forward.

Only then did the nurse turn to both of them and say, "The mother has given birth to a pair of fraternal twins. The male baby weighs 4.7 pounds, and the female baby weighs 4.4 pounds."

As the nurse spoke, she pushed out two incubators. "Two babies? No wonder she was in labor for so long."

After Yvonne was surprised, she quickly went over to the incubators to take a look at the babies.

However, Christopher did not step forward. After he heard that Janice had given birth to two children, he did not even look at the incubators. He asked directly, "Where is my wife? How is she now? Can I go in?"

Seeing that he looked anxious, the nurse said, "The mother can’t come out yet, so she needs to be observed for a while. You can go in, but you have to change into a sterile gown."

"Okay, I’ll go change right away," Christopher said as he left after that nurse.

After a while, he saw Janice in the observation room.

Janice was not fully awake when he saw her.

She was lying on a bed in a white surgical gown, her eyes opening and closing from time to time, not knowing whether she was asleep or awake.

Her arm was resting on the quilt, with an infusion needle stuck in it. At the moment, the liquid was dripping from the infusion bottle drop by drop.

The instrument next to her was ticking, which was the frequency of her heartbeat.

He walked towards her, at a quick but unusually light pace, for fear of disturbing her.

Unexpectedly, by the time he got close to her, she was awake.

"Honey..." She said in a weak voice.
