Chapter 1090 - Capítulo 1090: A Game of Keep Away
Capítulo 1090: A Game of Keep Away
There was something strange about the fight from the beginning. And Helios was the one who noticed it first.
Michael and Lucifer were great warriors from heaven, now hardened and undying dregs of hell.
They were strong, of course. But they should have been stronger. Or at least more violent.
And Helios could not figure out why they seemed to be so… non-confrontational.
Were they concerned about the difference in numbers…? It certainly wasn’t unbelievable, as all of the assembled generals could surely defeat two remnant spirits even if they were God’s fiercest warriors.
But Helios felt a gnawing in the pit of his stomach. A feeling he only got when the pieces of a puzzle didn’t quite fit.
Lucifer flipped over the crowd of dragons and phased through any attacks sent his way. In synchronicity, Michael performed his own acrobatics.
“Hit their souls!”
Zheng and Adeline were already sufficiently motivated. Darius’ instruction just gave them more direction.
The couple, along with Kanami and a few others, lunged into the air to meet the angels.
Even though they had seemed non-confrontational so far, the fierceness of the assault sent after the brothers required action.
Another explosion went off as the opposing forces clashed. A burst of red light nearly flattened the rest of the living room.
Cracks accumulated on the barrier housing Percival and his stolen vessel. Luckily, Helios spotted what was happening and reinforced it.
From that point, Michael and Lucifer split up and began attacking two opposing sides of the family.
Their change in pattern made Helios think that maybe his assessment was incorrect. He started to push his thoughts to the side and focus on the battle.
But something screamed at him to keep watching and supporting for now.
With the family fighting in such close proximity, not everyone could attack Lucifer and Michael at once for fear of injuring another person in the house.
Two physical attackers worked to push them back while the rest traditionally supported with long-range magical attacks.
In the battle, Kirina was the fiercest standout. She gave Michael the most trouble by far, and nearly killed him several times.
It was easy for her to work with Behemoth as her partner. Being married to Hajun had taught her more than enough about working with berserkers.
Kirina was a fluid vision.
While Behemoth took up a lot of space and launched wide, obvious attacks with tremendous power behind them, Kirina compensated for her lack of technique by using her shadowy blood to attack in the gaps of Behemoth’s movements.
Because Kirina could operate her blood and her main body simultaneously, her egregiously long sword was also an issue for Michael to deal with.
Not to mention all of the magic that was currently being launched at his blind spots by assembled family members. If Michael made so much as a single misstep, he was surely in for a world of pain and discomfort.
As a result, he was constantly on the run. For every step back he took, Kirina and Behemoth took three more until they were right back on top of him again.
They had his every move covered. Completing his portion of the plan was going to be next to impossible.
He just hoped that his brother wouldn’t fail as well, or who knew what was going to happen to them in the end.
Lucifer was having a bit of an easier time due to the tactics he employed.
He meticulously slipped past the attacks of Kanami and Hakon, only to find the duo of Satan and Belphegor waiting for him right behind them.
The family had started to catch on to his tricks. They had set up a formation that left nowhere for him to go.
“Oh. Hello, my sons. Where’s your brother?”
“”Shut up, dad.””
Together, Satan and Belphegor threw out punches containing the destructive power of both their sins.
Lucifer lifted up his spear to block, but his kids had become drastically stronger since the last time he’d seen them.
He was unprepared for the force of the blast, and as a result, he went flying backwards, right onto the business end of Kanami’s infamous black sword.
The gurgled scream wrested from his throat was satisfying to the ears of many. But after the day they were having, it was hardly enough.
Heavy footsteps shook the floor as Absalom lumbered forth with a particularly dark look in his eye.
The greyskinned demon raised a massive meaty fist and struck Lucifer so hard his head snapped in an entirely different direction.
Absalom struck Lucifer with blow after ridiculous blow. Even one of them would have been enough to cause an extinction-level event on a planet the size of Jupiter.
The sound was calamitous. If Lucifer had been in full possession of his body, there would be no meat left on his face by now. He seemed to be quite aware of that as well.
Lucifer reached out with his powers as his skull was nearly caved in.
The sources of light providing visibility responded to him, and for a moment, the room became completely black.
But as quick as it began, it ended.
An explosion of solidified light shards burst out from Lucifer in a wave.
For the first time, the fighting paused as almost everyone was thrown off their feet in one capacity or another.
Lucifer freed himself from Kanami’s blade and scrambled forward.
He lunged across the room just as Karliah was rising to her feet.
His fist struck her over the back of the head, and he started to grab the back of her neck.
However, before he could reach her, Helios threw his body into him and tackled him to the ground.
“THEY’RE TRYING TO TAKE KARLIAH! PROTECT HER!”
His roar shook the house and threw the rest of the family into alarm.
Karliah’s head was ringing slightly when she looked up and saw a wall of butts in her face.
“The hell are you fruitcakes doi-”
“Isabelle! Take her away from here!” Helios demanded.
“O-Okay!”
Isabelle placed her hand on Karliah’s shoulder and started trying to take them both into the shadows on the floor.
…but she couldn’t.
“Why are you fighting me!? We need to go!”
Karliah knocked her hand away. “You ain’t been here long, so I’ll let this slide as a one-time courtesy. I don’t run, sweet cheeks. If someone wants to take me, no one gets to defend me but-”
Kanami punched Karliahin the back of the head so hard that it sounded like a bomb had gone off. She fell face-first onto the stone floor.
“GO!”
Isabelle nodded furiously as she sank into the floor with Karliah’s unconscious body.
Lucifer and Michael slowly got to their feet, weary and holding their heads.
“…We’re sorry. We really don’t have a choice.” Michael said solemnly. The regret in his voice was palpable.
“Just bring the woman back so that we don’t have to do this… The boy’s particularly stubborn when he sees something he wants. And he’s feeling vengeful.”
A deluge of purple and red flames rose from Kanami’s feet. Scales grew to cover hr face and her height increased dramatically.
“You’ve already taken too much from us today. Karliah will not join the tally.
You had better pray with all of your spirits that your puppeteer has made you truly immortal. Because I will devote every ounce of my being towards finding a way to kill you.”
Michael swallowed. He longed for death.
But every part of him knew that Kanami would not send him off as a mercy. His death would be bloody and filled with retribution.
He would go into Oblivion screaming.
‘And I would deserve it, wouldn’t I..?’ He thought.
The brothers braced themselves for the fiercest assault from the dragons yet.
But that was when everything changed.
They felt it in the room first. It was a light, cool breeze that washed through the room.
The family twitched. They knew that feeling, but they dared not hope. Not after everything they had seen.
But then a golden light shone within the room.
It came with a sweet scent, like fresh honey and mint-leaf brewing inside of a warm kettle.
The light itself healed the injuries anyone had suffered during the fight. Each wound closed up in a fraction of a second.
This golden shine formed a heavenly cocoon unlike anything the group had seen.
Cracks spread along the hard surface, and chunks of shell started falling away.
When the figure emerged from the golden veil, she brought immediate change.
A massive amount of energy spilled out of the shell along with her and altered the very landscape they stood on.
The room became filled with a sparkling orange energy. Thick, vibrant grass rose up from the destroyed house, bringing with it a sea of flowers unseen by the world.
But that was hardly all.
Their destroyed home became filled with strange ethereal strings.
They were connected to every single thing within the room, and everyone present could see them.
The woman landed on the grass like a gentle vision.
She gently raised her foot and used her big toe to tip over one of the flowers she had grown.
When she removed her foot, the flower snapped back in position and, in doing so, flung a cloud of ghastly, thick pollen into the face of Lucifer.
The devil couldn’t stand the substance for some reason.
He coughed terribly and flung his arms about to disperse the smoke.
But he wasn’t paying close enough attention to his surroundings. And with him still swinging his spear about nonchalantly, he accidentally stabbed his brother in the neck. Michael collapsed to the floor instantly.
Everyone was stunned silly, not just by the scene they had just witnessed, but by the one who had brought it about. They cried so desperately that no one would ever believe it.
When she turned to her family, she slowly raised her hand and held up two fingers in a ‘V’ symbol while smiling.
“Victory.”
