Family Man System: Taking Care Of My Family Makes Me OP

Chapter 24: Deciding a name(2)

Chapter 24: Deciding a name(2)

So the names were folded into small slips of paper and placed inside a small bowl.

Since this was a matter of choosing a given name, Jean had been the one to prepare all the choices and place them in the bowl, while Kai had the honor of drawing one at random.

"Are you sure this is the right procedure?" Kai asked, standing before the bowl as he rubbed his hands together.

Jean merely shrugged. "I have never heard of there being any official procedure for this."

Kai hummed thoughtfully. "Same. Well, here goes nothing."

He drew a slow breath, then closed his eyes.

Reaching into the bowl, he stirred the folded slips for a moment, mixing them thoroughly before finally selecting one. He held it between his fingers as Jean approached, curiosity evident in her expression.

Kai opened his eyes and carefully unfolded the paper.

A small, elegant name was written across it.

"Elara."

"Mm..."

The timing was almost uncanny. The moment he spoke the name aloud, the sleeping child stirred and released a soft little sound, as though she had heard them despite being deep in slumber.

Jean and Kai exchanged a glance.

Then, almost simultaneously, they smiled.

"Elara it is." Jean nodded, taking the slip from his hand. She would keep it somewhere safe.

Kai hummed, his gaze lingering on the sleeping child before he added, "Then we could call her Elli at home. What do you think?"

Jean blinked. "But your list..."

"Yeah, forget about that. I think Elli suits her, and it’s easy on the tongue."

Jean nodded in agreement.

The two of them then turned toward the bed and stepped closer.

The urge to scoop the baby into their arms was plain in their eyes, but neither dared disturb the little princess while she slept so peacefully.

Just then,

[Congratulations on naming your child, host.]

[Deciding appropriate reward...]

Kai was taken aback. This was the first time the system had failed to immediately determine what reward it wanted to grant him.

Still, he had no intention of standing there and waiting for it to make up its mind.

He turned to Jean and said, "I don’t know what sort of ceremony people usually hold after naming their child, but we could at least prepare a proper meal today. What do you say?"

Jean nodded without hesitation. "Of course. A good meal to remember the day."

Kai hummed, already looking pleased with the idea. "Then this evening, let’s go to the nearby store. I’m sure they must have a good selection of wine and meat."

Seeing how excited he was about the occasion, and how often his gaze drifted toward their daughter with such evident love and adoration, Jean could not stop herself from smiling.

Elara.

That was their child’s name.

....

That evening, while Jean was getting ready and Kai was playing with Elara on the table, he received a call.

Kai hummed and said, "Here, hold this for me, Elli. Daddy’s getting a call."

He handed her the small rubber toy he had recently bought for her. Elli took it obediently, tilting her head slightly as she examined it.

Kai glanced at the caller ID and immediately realized there was no way he could ignore the call.

He answered. "Hey, Mark. How’s it going?"

{Kaaaaaai... man, my life couldn’t be any more perfect.}

That was his opening declaration, and coming from someone who usually carried himself with such stoic composure, the sheer exhilaration in his voice could only mean one thing.

The man was floating somewhere above the clouds.

Kai smiled. "Glad to hear that..."

He paused when Elli suddenly tossed the rubber toy aside. Kai caught it before it could fall, only to notice that his daughter had already turned her attention toward the sugar dispenser.

He shook his head faintly.

She already had a preference.

{I can’t tell you how lucky those are who find their true love this early in life. I mean, before Mia, I was just living somehow. But after she arrived, I realized that I could be happy too.}

Kai chuckled as he received the dispenser which has daughter wanted him to have.

"It seems your first honeymoon didn’t go quite the way you were dreading."

{Not at all. Our everyday habits didn’t make things awkward either. Like... I accidentally burped loudly in front of her, and yet things remained completely normal.}

Kai hummed, then gently tickled Elli’s cheek.

A delighted giggle escaped her as she reached up and wrapped her tiny fingers around his hand.

"How about the package trip? Did they cover everything that was listed?"

{Yes, and that’s a surprise. We both thought they’d charge extra for the underwater diving, but they didn’t.}

Kai nodded in contentment. "They better have, or I’ll be calling myself their manager instead."

Kai had arranged the entire vacation package himself, carefully detailing everything he wanted included.

A moment later, he added, "Anyway, make sure to buy me a souven..."

"Kai, should I bring this bag with me as well?" Jean suddenly called from behind him.

Kai froze.

A moment later, he heard a scream.

{Kai?! Is that a woman? In your house?}

This... was surely going to take some time to explain.
