Chapter 64: And So He Made His Hand a Blade
The Sacred Energy wrapped around the M2 slipped across his palm, giving him exactly the same sensation as when Sacred Energy had passed through his hand before.
It was not simply light, nor was it some solid layer that he could physically grasp.
It was more like something impossibly smooth and constantly flowing. Any force used to seize it would simply slide away along its surface.
Lin Yan clenched his fingers twice in quick succession.
Both attempts failed.
He could only watch as the M2 continued flying past him.
If he couldn’t grab it, then forget grabbing it.
He kicked off the ground, using his existing momentum to leap upward. His body passed over the M2, and his right foot came crashing down in midair.
Straight onto the front of the barrel.
Boom!
The M2, which had only just left the floor, was violently forced downward.
The muzzle smashed into the stone beneath it.
Thick floor tiles shattered instantly, fragments spraying in every direction, while Lucia’s Sacred Energy continued pulling from the other side. One end of the heavy machine gun was pinned against the ground while the other was still being dragged violently forward.
A second later, the barrel gave off a sharp metallic screech.
Under the sheer, unreasonable force beneath Lin Yan’s foot, the thick barrel bent.
The impact left a shallow crater beneath the muzzle, and several cracks continued spreading outward through the surrounding stone even after Lin Yan lifted his foot.
Lucia stared at the deformed M2, her eyes turning completely cold.
She no longer looked at the ruined weapon. Sacred Energy burst outward from around her instead, surging toward the two knights behind her.
At that moment, the two of them were still completely baffled.
Just moments ago, they had personally watched Lin Yan finish receiving Sacred Energy’s enhancement and listened to him speak with absolute devotion.
Then, after walking only a few steps, the man who had looked as though he had been fully "accepted" by Him suddenly started fighting Lucia over a heavy machine gun.
And when he failed to seize it, he simply stomped the barrel crooked.
Neither knight had any idea what the hell had just happened.
Lucia gave them no time to think.
Sacred Energy had already entered their bodies.
The white radiance spread across their armor and sank through the gaps between the plates. Their movements immediately changed. The heavy metal that had weighed down every step before no longer seemed nearly as restrictive, and even the way they held their swords became noticeably sharper and more controlled.
"Kill him."
The moment the order was given, both knights moved without hesitation.
Obedience had long since become instinct.
With their bodies enhanced by Sacred Energy, they burst forward at speeds far beyond what they had shown before. The seven or eight meters between them and Lin Yan vanished in the blink of an eye.
They closed in from his left and right, their longswords swinging almost simultaneously.
One blade came down toward his shoulder and neck.
The other cut horizontally toward his waist.
The two knights moved in perfect coordination, their blades attacking high and low at nearly the same time and leaving Lin Yan little room to evade.
But as Lin Yan watched the blades coming toward him, the first thought that entered his mind was not which way he should dodge.
Instead—
Maybe I don’t need to.
The thought came suddenly.
Lin Yan had never tested how tough his newly enhanced body actually was, but as the two blades came down, some instinct told him he could take them.
It was reckless.
But he trusted it.
Just as the two swords were about to strike him, he issued another command to the System.
Remove [Valerian Common].
Equip—
[Blade Arts II].
A strange sensation appeared.
Lin Yan clearly had no blade in his hand.
Yet when all the experience brought by [Blade Arts II] flooded into his mind, the two knights in front of him suddenly seemed different.
Distance, angle, timing, the direction of their momentum—things he would normally have needed to consciously judge now seemed almost obvious. His eyes naturally settled on the spaces between their attacks and the shortest path his arm could take through them.
Then he looked at his right hand.
Having an actual blade suddenly did not seem all that important.
What was a blade?
A weapon made to cut.
To sever flesh, break through bone, and kill.
Everything else—its shape, its material, even the steel itself—was only there to serve that purpose.
If his hand could do the same thing...
Then why couldn’t it be a blade?
Lin Yan pressed his five fingers tightly together.
At the same moment, both swords struck him.
His clothes split first, followed by his skin.
The sharp blades cut into him, but after sinking only a short distance, they visibly slowed. The dense yet resilient muscles underneath compressed inward before producing increasingly powerful resistance, forcibly stopping the blades from going any deeper.
Just as I thought.
The thought had barely flashed through Lin Yan’s mind when his right hand moved along with the instinct granted by [Blade Arts II].
The next instant, the young knight’s head flew off, the severed edge rough and ragged rather than clean, as though an absurdly blunt weapon had simply smashed through bone and torn the surrounding flesh apart through sheer force.
Lin Yan glanced down at his right hand.
Clearly, [Blade Arts II] could make him use his hand like a blade.
But a hand was still a hand.
The only reason it had actually taken the man’s head off was because Lin Yan was strong enough.
The old knight clearly had not expected that result.
Before he had even recovered from what he had just witnessed, Lin Yan had already turned toward him, his right hand still held with all five fingers pressed together.
Following the sensation from [Blade Arts II], he sent out another slash.
Almost exactly the same as before.
His arm flashed past.
The next instant, the old knight’s head flew off as well.
His body remained upright for the briefest moment before the sword slipped from his hand and struck the stone floor with a metallic clang.
Lin Yan flicked the blood from his hand and did not spare either corpse another glance.
He immediately looked toward the spot where Lucia had been standing.
No one was there.
Lin Yan froze.
Then quickly looked around.
Still nothing.
She ran?
