Everyone Can Hear My Thoughts, and Now They're Panicking

Jane Lancaster guessed that family would probably go looking for Luna Morgan soon.

Although Luna Morgan was a complete victim where the Lucas family was concerned, those people were insatiably greedy. They wouldn’t care whether she was innocent or not.

As long as they could get their hands on some money, they would try anything.

She thought for a moment, then sent a voice message to Luna Morgan, asking if she had wired money to the Lucas family.

She needed to be sure.

In her hospital bed, Luna Morgan heard a message notification. She quickly put down the medical book she was holding and picked up her phone.

Seeing Jane Lancaster’s name, she grew excited. ’Miss Lancaster is finally talking to me!’

Since she had been injured and hospitalized, all her friends had come to visit. The three Lancaster brothers had also stayed by her side during her loneliest and most helpless moments.

But Jane Lancaster had never once shown up, leaving her to feel inevitably disappointed and wonder if Miss Lancaster held a serious grudge against her.

Her good intentions had backfired at the college acceptance party, and she’d felt guilty ever since. She hoped Miss Lancaster wouldn’t resent her for it.

She tapped play on the voice message, holding her breath as she listened...

"Luna!" Chloe Dave burst through the door.

Startled, Luna Morgan fumbled her phone, and it hit the floor with a CLATTER.

"Sorry, I scared you." Chloe Dave rushed over and picked up the phone. He frowned at the screen, then tapped play on the voice message.

"Hey, wait—" Luna Morgan tried to stop him, but it was too late.

Chloe Dave didn’t think he was crossing any lines. He knew the score. Jane Lancaster was too manipulative. Luna Morgan had been badly hurt, yet Jane never came to visit. Sending a message after all this time—who knew what her real intentions were?

Jane Lancaster’s voice filled the hospital room: "Luna, did you wire money to Howard Lucas’s family? A total of 300,000."

At first, Chloe Dave didn’t react. "Who’s Howard Lucas?"

A moment later, his eyes widened. "You sent money to the Lucas family?"

Luna Morgan clutched the blanket, looking anxious. "I did. I feel like their family worked so hard to support Howard... only to be left with nothing. It’s just too pitiful. Was I wrong to do it?"

Chloe Dave came over and grabbed her by the shoulders. "Luna, you don’t have to be anxious. I know what you were thinking! You did this for Jane Lancaster, right?"

Luna Morgan froze for a moment, then quickly shook her head. "No, it has nothing to do with Miss Lancaster..."

"Don’t try to deny it. You think I don’t know you? When Jane Lancaster wouldn’t wake up, you consulted doctors, prayed to every god and spirit—you tried everything. You must have been afraid that Howard Lucas’s ghost was haunting her, so you decided to compensate his family to lessen Jane Lancaster’s karmic debt, right?"

Luna Morgan’s voice grew fainter. "It wasn’t just that. My own conscience was bothering me..."

Chloe Dave shot back, "What do you have to feel guilty about? You’re not the one who killed him!"

"But I am the one who indirectly killed him..." Luna Morgan said softly.

Her gaze suddenly landed on the phone in Chloe Dave’s hand, and her eyes flew wide. "Why did you start a video call?"

Panicked, she scrambled to grab the phone, babbling, "Miss Lancaster, let me explain—"

Jane Lancaster simply ended the video call.

Chloe Dave sneered. ’Couldn’t take it anymore? She must have hung up in such a hurry because of a guilty conscience.’

The moment he heard the voice message, he had guessed what Luna Morgan had done.

Luna had worked so hard and done so much, yet Jane Lancaster remained completely unmoved. She had even intentionally embarrassed Luna at the apprenticeship ceremony.

He had made the video call on purpose to show Jane Lancaster just how much Luna Morgan had silently done for her.

He wasn’t asking for her gratitude, but could she at least not be so malicious as to repay kindness with cruelty?

He had been suspicious ever since the fiasco of Luna Morgan’s supposed kidnapping. After investigating for so long, he finally had a break in the case.

Luna Morgan had been lured away as part of a setup. The other party had intentionally led them into a trap, causing The Lowell Group to lose a huge contract, damaging Caleb Lowell’s reputation, and bringing a torrent of criticism down on Luna Morgan.

The scheme was viciously planned, and the mastermind behind it was Jane Lancaster.

Caleb Lowell didn’t know about this yet. When the time was right, he would slap the evidence down and expose Jane Lancaster for everyone to see.

Jane Lancaster hadn’t hung up because of a guilty conscience, but because she was interrupted.

The cafe’s music was soothing. She looked up at the person who had just appeared in front of her.

"Sorry, I couldn’t help but overhear your video call," Gordon Dawson said, apologizing first before asking, "If I heard that right, Luna is financially supporting Howard Lucas’s family?"

A small smile touched Jane Lancaster’s lips. "You heard everything, didn’t you?"

’Making his move this quickly? Isn’t he a little too eager?’

"How could she be so stupid!" Gordon Dawson slammed his fist on the table in frustration. "Has she forgotten who made all your lives so miserable? Never mind anyone else—the entire trajectory of your life and hers was completely rewritten!"

Jane Lancaster replied, "What’s so strange about that? Isn’t she always repaying grievances with kindness?"

"Hah! That’s not being a saint, it’s being a fool!"

Gordon Dawson meant every word; he genuinely thought Luna Morgan was an idiot.

He had once admired Luna Morgan’s gentleness and kindness and had been willing to be her friend.

The prerequisite, however, was that Luna Morgan’s kindness had to be beneficial to him.

He had just overheard it himself: Luna Morgan had given the Lucas family 300,000 over the last few years. That was just outrageous.

A few years ago, when he was short on capital for his startup, Luna Morgan had given him 50,000, saying she couldn’t spare any more. He knew her family wasn’t well-off and guessed it might have been her entire savings from working odd jobs.

As a man, he couldn’t help but be moved by the gesture from such a beautiful, kind girl, and he had promised to give Luna Morgan founder’s shares on the spot.

And for those few years, he had indeed protected Luna Morgan, especially when she was being publicly condemned.

Only now did he realize what a joke that was. Her "entire savings"? She had given the criminal’s family 300,000!

It turned out that all along, he was the one at the bottom of the totem pole, the easiest one to fool, fobbed off with a mere 50,000.

Jane Lancaster lowered her eyes to her coffee. "How can you say that about Luna? Isn’t she your good friend? She’s the one who set you and Pauline up and helped you get back together."

’Back at the hospital, you gave me a hard shove for Luna Morgan’s sake.’

Her tone was flat, betraying no emotion. Gordon Dawson studied her for a moment, likely sensing her defensiveness and wariness.

’Right,’ he thought. ’She’s smarter than Pauline Shaw, after all. She’s not going to open up easily.’

Gordon Dawson felt a surge of anxiety. He had planned to take his time, but he was running out of it.

Right before Jane Lancaster’s accident, Caleb Lowell had gone away on a business trip. The people around him had deliberately kept the news from him until today, when Pauline Shaw let it slip over the phone.

Caleb Lowell immediately lost his temper and laid into Pauline Shaw.

Judging by that reaction, Caleb wouldn’t be able to stay away. He would probably cut his business trip short and rush back to Stratton to see Jane Lancaster.

Gordon Dawson worried they would rekindle their old romance. The shadow of the Hughes Family trying to force her into a marriage hadn’t yet faded, and this was when she was at her most vulnerable.

He had to use this time to break through and win Jane Lancaster’s heart.

"I was fooled by her, too," Gordon Dawson said, passing his phone to Jane Lancaster.

On it was a video. That day in the hospital, he had secretly recorded Pauline Shaw talking to Caleb Lowell. In the video, Caleb Lowell said he didn’t regret going to save Luna Morgan.
