Everyone Can Hear My Thoughts, and Now They're Panicking

Chapter 181: So Mindful of the Big Picture, How Truly Great

Una Holt’s expression stiffened. Apologize to Jane Lancaster and Willow Summers? No way!

’Especially Willow Summers. Who does she think she is? What gives her the right to demand an apology from me?’

"Sorry, I have somewhere to be, so I’ll be going now." Una Holt played dumb. She tried to leave, but Uncle Lynn blocked her path.

"Our Young Master isn’t finished speaking," Uncle Lynn said, his tone cold.

Caleb Lowell had been watching from the side for a while. When he first came out, he saw Jane Lancaster snatch the male assistant’s phone and decided to stay out of it.

He hadn’t expected Jane Lancaster to not only delete the video of herself but also try to erase all of the man’s work footage.

What he expected even less was for Jasper Sterling to deliberately break the male assistant’s phone.

’The guy was in the wrong, but he’s just an ordinary person, and now his phone is broken. Was it necessary to be so harsh on him?’

"Jasper Sterling, let it go. There’s no need to be so harsh," Caleb Lowell said as he stepped forward.

When Una Holt saw someone was backing her up, she cried out happily, "Cousin!"

She paused, then said in an aggrieved tone, "They’re being outrageous! They snatched our phone, broke it, and now they won’t let us leave."

Willow Summers was speechless.

’Who is this "they" you’re talking about? Why are you looking at me and Jane Lancaster?’

"I’m the one who snatched the phone," Jane Lancaster said calmly. "So, are you looking for me to pay for it?"

’Fine. He might not be her first cousin, but given his connection to the Holt family, they’re still family. It makes sense that Caleb Lowell would take her side.’

Caleb Lowell’s lips moved. He wanted to explain that he wasn’t targeting her.

Jasper Sterling suddenly stepped in front of Jane Lancaster. "What’s this, President Lowell? Planning on meddling in other people’s business? Fine. If you’re determined to pin the blame on us, then I’m the one who broke the phone. I’ll pay for it."

Caleb Lowell was instantly angered by his attitude. "Jasper Sterling, you and I both know you did that on purpose. Even if you have a video, the hotel entrance has security cameras. If this goes to the police, you’ll have to bear at least half the responsibility."

Jasper Sterling said, "Fine. I did it on purpose. I’ll pay."

Hearing this, the male assistant hurriedly said, "It’s not just about the money for the phone! The videos I shot are very valuable. You have to compensate me for those too!"

Jane Lancaster let out a soft laugh. "Hold on. Is this blackmail?"

Caleb Lowell froze for a second, looking at Jane Lancaster. "Jay..."

Jane Lancaster said with a calm expression, "This really looks like a scam. You deliberately break the phone, claim the videos on it are valuable, and then demand an exorbitant amount of compensation."

Caleb Lowell felt a headache coming on. He reached out to pull Jane Lancaster’s arm. "Jay, I’m not..."

Jane Lancaster quickly stepped back, avoiding his hand.

Caleb Lowell took a deep breath and turned to Una Holt. "For my sake, can we just let this go?"

Una Holt nodded obediently.

But Jane Lancaster’s face was filled with a sarcastic smile.

’He says to let it go, but he’ll probably compensate Una Holt privately later, right? So willing to compromise and keep the big picture in mind. How noble of him.’

’He doesn’t even stop to think about how he was the one who pushed Mrs. Everett onto Clayton Lowell back then.’

’Then again, I guess he indirectly did a good deed. If it weren’t for that, Clayton Lowell never would have crossed paths with Mrs. Everett, and Lana Sterling would probably have been deceived by him for the rest of her life.’

The expression on Caleb Lowell’s face froze slightly. ’She’s right. I was the one who took pity on Mrs. Everett back then. I meddled, taking her out of the Sterling family home, only to end up hurting my uncle.’

He raised his hand to press at the space between his brows and said in a placid tone, "Now, you should apologize to Jay and this lady."

Una Holt was stunned. Why had he suddenly changed his attitude?

"Cousin..."

"I’m not your cousin," Caleb Lowell said coldly. "I only have one real cousin in the Holt family, and that’s Vincent Holt."

Una Holt was now in a full-blown panic. Why was he disowning their connection? She said pitifully, "Cousin, please don’t be like this. I know I was wrong."

This time, she finally adopted a proper attitude. First, she said sorry to Jane Lancaster, and then, reluctantly, she said sorry to Willow Summers.

Willow Summers took a step back, shying away.

Jane Lancaster, however, accepted the apology without moving a muscle.

’Sigh, what can I do? I just love throwing my weight around. You’ll just have to deal with it, whether you like it or not.’

Jasper Sterling lowered his gaze slightly. He didn’t like her thinking of herself that way.

After a moment, he looked up and said calmly, "Besides apologizing, shouldn’t you also thank Jane Lancaster?"

Una Holt was baffled. Thank her for what?

Jasper Sterling turned to look at Lana Sterling. "Aunt, if Jane Lancaster hadn’t exposed the poisoned pastries today, all of you would probably be happily eating them right now. You would have signed the investment contract, and 200 million would have gone right down the drain."

"You also wouldn’t have seen Clayton Lowell’s true colors and would have continued to be deceived by him. If he had proposed to you, would you have married him?"

Lana Sterling hesitated for a moment. "I suppose I would have."

If today’s events hadn’t occurred, she really would have still held onto her illusions about Clayton Lowell.

"Okay, so you get married. Since it’s a spousal investment, the money doesn’t need to be paid back. Aunt, you don’t know anything about business or financial management. If your husband offered to manage things for you, you certainly wouldn’t object. The assets under your name would slowly fall into his hands. It would only take a few years for him to transfer everything away without a sound."

Caleb Lowell’s brow furrowed. "Jasper Sterling, watch your words. My uncle is not that kind of person!"

Jasper Sterling’s expression was placid. "Is he not, or did he just not get the chance to be?"

"By the way, Aunt, you also have shares in the Sterling Group under your name. That’s an asset worth tens of billions. Even if Clayton Lowell wasn’t tempted, do you think the elders of the Lowell family wouldn’t be?"

Lana Sterling hadn’t even known her nephew had left her so many shares. She was so shocked her jaw nearly hit the floor.

’If I sold all these shares, I’d be instantly rich! I could go wherever I wanted and buy whatever I wanted!’

’No, I can’t sell them. If I did, the Sterling Group’s stock would plummet.’ Lana Sterling forced herself out of her fantasy and thought for a moment.

"I really have been focused only on having fun. I don’t have much of a head for these things. If that happened, not only would I be ruined, but the Sterling Group would be too."

Lana Sterling’s expression became much more serious. "Jane Lancaster, thank you."

Willow Summers had been wanting to say this for a while. "That’s right! Jane, you didn’t have to come, but you made a special trip just to help everyone avoid this trap, right?"

’Just like that time before last, when she saw me with Jim Jenson, she was just as kind and gave me a warning.’

’And even last time, when she knew Jim Jenson was giving me a hard time, she was the one who helped me out of it.’

Willow Summers’s eyes sparkled as she looked at her. ’How can one person be so gentle?’

Jane Lancaster froze for a moment. "You all think too highly of me. I just came to watch the show. I don’t know anything."

’I was obviously just here to see Clayton Lowell make a fool of himself, okay?’

"President Lowell, what do you think?" Jasper Sterling looked at Caleb Lowell. "If this bomb hadn’t been defused today, and something happened in the future, I’m afraid your Lowell Group would have been implicated as well, right?"

Caleb Lowell’s lips tightened. He could hear Jane Lancaster’s thoughts, so of course he knew she didn’t have the best intentions.

Clayton Lowell had clashed with her several times already; it was only normal for her to gloat over his misfortune.

But at the same time, she had also inadvertently helped the Lowell family.

"Jay, you really did help me," Caleb Lowell said after a moment of contemplation. "Thank you."
