Chapter 180: You Don’t Even Know How to Apologize?
Jane Lancaster walked behind the rest of the Sterling family.
Willow Summers whispered, "Thank God Ms. Sterling came to her senses. Otherwise, I would’ve coughed up blood."
The thought of Lana Sterling almost dropping two hundred million on Clayton Lowell made her heart ache. Wouldn’t that much money be better spent on herself?
The key was that Lana Sterling was only in her forties, but she was so well-maintained that she looked like she was barely thirty.
After all, she and Jasper Sterling were aunt and nephew, so they shared a certain resemblance in their features. She could be described as a stunning, sophisticated beauty.
Clayton Lowell might not have been worthy of her before, and he definitely wasn’t now that he was as round as a ball.
Unless Clayton Lowell was super-rich, which might barely close the gap a little.
A beautiful woman with an ugly man was already cringeworthy enough, but for the beautiful woman to be the one spending the money? It was utterly nauseating to her.
Willow Summers knew that she herself had been single-mindedly focused on climbing the social ladder. She could make certain compromises for money, but an ugly man who wanted to be a kept man and act entitled about it was absolutely out of the question.
"But Jane, you’re so amazing..."
"Excuse me, move it!" an impatient voice snapped from behind them.
Jane Lancaster moved to the side, but the person still deliberately bumped into her.
Willow Summers flared up immediately. "Una Holt, are you insane?"
"Oh, sorry. It wasn’t on purpose." Una Holt turned her head, but her face held not a hint of apology. "But then again, you were blocking the middle of the path."
Una Holt’s assistant chimed in, "Una was already being polite by telling you to move. It’s your fault for not getting out of the way."
Willow Summers was about to explode. She was just about to curse them out when Jane Lancaster pulled her back.
"What are you filming with your phone?" she asked another inconspicuous male assistant standing nearby.
She had noticed him earlier. When Una Holt went on stage, he had been holding up his phone and recording the whole time.
Willow Summers reacted instantly. "He’s secretly filming! They’re going to edit it and post it online to stir up drama!"
Una Holt didn’t just like to flaunt her wealth on a daily basis; she also loved to film short videos of a "rich heiress tearing into a seductive bitch."
She probably thought it gave her personality, making her seem bold and straightforward.
In some videos, it was obvious that Una Holt was the one who started the trouble, but after some clever editing, she would emerge as the righteous party, gaining a ton of views and followers.
"Stop filming!" Willow Summers yelled, reaching out to block the camera lens.
The male assistant lifted the phone higher, aiming it right at her face. "So what if I film you? Now you’re trying to snatch my phone? Heh, you think you can reach it?"
Jane Lancaster simply reached out and snatched the phone from his hand.
The sudden turn of events caught the male assistant off guard. He froze.
Willow Summers couldn’t help but laugh out loud. The male assistant had deliberately raised the phone high to bully someone shorter than him, but that little height advantage was nothing in front of Jane Lancaster.
Jane Lancaster went straight to the photo album and deleted all the videos he had just recorded.
The male assistant’s expression changed. That was the fruit of his labor!
"Fuck, who told you to delete those?" He stormed forward aggressively, about to shove Jane Lancaster.
The moment he reached out, his wrist was caught in a firm grip. A cold voice rang out, "You dare try to touch her in front of me?"
’Holy shit, this guy’s way too strong!’ The male assistant struggled frantically, using all his might.
After deleting the videos, Jane Lancaster’s gaze paused. She saw that there were other photos and videos on the phone.
’How many similar short videos has he filmed?’
"If you fucking dare delete my other videos, I’ll kill you!" The male assistant, realizing he was overpowered, quickly changed his tune.
He was tacitly admitting she could delete the videos of herself.
But the other videos had nothing to do with her, and normally, no one would be bored enough to actually do that. He was just saying it to save face.
’Threatening me? I’m the type of person who can’t stand being provoked. Fine, then. I’m definitely deleting them!’
Just as Jane Lancaster was about to act, Jasper Sterling suddenly took the phone from her and shoved it into the male assistant’s hands.
"Here, you can have it back." At the same time, Jasper Sterling suddenly released his other hand and quickly pulled away.
The male assistant, who had been pulling with all his might, stumbled forward and fell to the ground. The phone slipped from his grasp, tumbling down the steps and onto the road ahead.
A car drove by, its tires rolling right over the phone.
"Holy shit, my phone!" The male assistant scrambled to pick it up, but the phone was completely shattered.
The male assistant was distraught. "This phone was really expensive, over ten thousand! You have to compensate me for the full price! Not a single cent less!"
Jasper Sterling lifted his gaze to Uncle Lynn, who was holding up his phone.
Uncle Lynn gestured to show that the phone was in Lana Sterling’s hands.
Lana Sterling’s face was alight with excitement. "Compensate you for what? Didn’t you fail to hold onto your own phone and drop it yourself? I have a video right here as proof. Don’t even think about trying to scam us!"
The male assistant looked at her with some trepidation. He had been there just now and knew this woman was rich.
She had been sitting at the head of the SVIP table, and even Clayton Lowell had been cautiously attending to her. Rumor was she had been ready to pull out two hundred million, which had made Una Holt’s eyes red with envy.
He then turned to Jasper Sterling. His wrist was still killing him, and besides, this man was the boss of the Sterling Group, a name as renowned as Caleb Lowell’s.
A single glance confirmed it: these were people he could not afford to offend.
The male assistant ran over to Una Holt. "Princess Una, you have to stand up for me."
In his eyes, since Una Holt was in the same circle as these people—all rich—they should be able to talk to each other.
Besides, he had been filming them on Una Holt’s orders. Now that his phone was destroyed in the line of duty, his boss, Una Holt, should at least reimburse him for it, right?
Una Holt was feeling flustered. If Jane Lancaster had been the one to put the phone back in the assistant’s hand, she could have insisted that Jane did it on purpose.
The problem was, Jasper Sterling was the one who did it... and she wasn’t ready to completely offend him.
"Who told you to be so clumsy you couldn’t even hold your own phone?" Una Holt said, her face a mask of impatience.
This wasn’t one of her short video shoots. She usually picked fights with ordinary people. Who would be crazy enough to go after a real magnate family?
The male assistant started to get anxious. How could she push all the blame onto him?
"No, how is this my fault? Weren’t you the one who told me to film those two women?"
The female assistant quickly pulled him aside and whispered for him to stop making a scene, assuring him that Una Holt would take care of it. He relaxed slightly.
As long as Una Holt didn’t try to back out of it, he’d be fine.
Una Holt weighed her options and decided this was an opportunity to get on Jasper Sterling’s good side.
"Young Master Sterling, I’m so sorry. It’s all my assistant’s fault for being too impulsive. I apologize to you on his behalf."
She looked up at Jasper Sterling and couldn’t help but blush slightly.
Up close, the man’s face was breathtakingly handsome.
The way he looked at her was so doting and flirtatious. Could it be that he was interested in her, too?
At that thought, her heart skipped a beat.
’Wait, what is she blushing about?’ Jane Lancaster glanced at Jasper Sterling and sort of understood.
’Sigh. One of the three great delusions in life: "He likes me." Is it possible that this guy’s eyes are so full of affection he’d look at a dog the same way?’
Jasper Sterling: "..."
Was it possible that the reason his gaze was so full of affection was because he had been secretly watching her the whole time?
"You don’t even know how to apologize?" Jasper Sterling’s voice was cold. "The ones you should be apologizing to are not me, but the two ladies."
