Endless Horde: Through the Eyes of a Godking

Chapter 816: Nick and Pat’s struggle

Chapter 816: Nick and Pat’s struggle

“How are you doing, Pat?”

“Awful.”

“Same.”

Pat and Nick groaned at the same time, taking a swig from their gourds filled with wine. Their faces were gloomy and slightly helpless.

“I knew that this was going to be difficult. I thought I was prepared, that my mind and body were ready for this. But now…”

“Not even a glimpse, huh?”

“Yeah, none at all.”

There goes another swig. Pat and Nick looked depressed, though not yet ready to quit just yet.

They’re on a short break from their seclusion to elevate their concept laws to the Origin Law level. And based on how they’re currently reacting, it’s clear that it’s not going well for them.

Some would say that it’s still too early for them to be feeling this way. After all, it hasn’t even been five years since they’ve gone into seclusion, and they’re already expecting results. It wouldn’t be Origin Laws if they were easy to comprehend.

But it must also be said that, if there are people who qualify to reach the Origin Law right now, it would for sure be the two of them.

They’ve long since reached the peak of the Heavenly Law level, and there’s no other way for them to go than forward. In their minds, and probably everybody else’s too, that has to amount to something.

But with how things are going so far, it seems that that’s not the case.

Even the faintest hints of Origin Laws remain elusive to them.

Nick and Pat had been very patient. They opened themselves for it, allowed themselves to be vulnerable in hopes of attracting the attention of the origin laws. They don’t even ask for much, just a sliver—a shadow even, anything to start with.

But even after five years, nothing…

There’s really nothing at all. And it was demoralizing.

Of course, as the strongest humanity can offer, Nick and Pat weren’t stupid. They know that, when it comes to comprehending laws, luck, fate, and destiny are included.

One can have all the determination, resources, time, effort, and talent they could to start comprehending laws, but if they’re not fated for it, it’ll never happen. That’s just the way it is.

Both of them are aware of this.

But it has been proven that they were qualified. They wouldn’t have reached this far if they weren’t, right?

Is the world seriously telling them that they just fall a little short of reaching that level?

If so, how is that acceptable? How could anybody expect them to accept that? No way! With the Bug Empress practically breathing down their neck, too?

This goes beyond desperation. It’s either they do it, or they die trying.

“You know, I’m so tempted to pick a fight with the Supreme Will right now,” Nicl groaned before wiping his lips. His eyes were sharp and looking a little reckless.

“Same,” Patricia hummed, “But don’t you fucking dare. You do that, and it’s really over.”

Nick grunted.

He wasn’t really that serious…okay, maybe half-serious, but he wasn’t actually going to do it. He’s not stupid; he knows that won’t end well for him.

Not that the Supreme Will was strong. It is, but if Nick really wanted to, he could probably inflict some serious damage to it. But what will it do other than cause instability to the Primitive Universe and alarm basically every living being therein?

Not only will he not get what he actually wants, but there’s no way he’d leave that fight unscathed.

It’s just a bad idea born out of his frustrations. It wasn’t that serious.

“Do you think we’re too anxious about this?” Nick asked.

“How can we not?” Patricia scoffed. “That bitch is practically looking for every possible way to stop us. Gibson and Urek are out there trying to buy time for us, but let’s be real, if she truly got serious, just the two or three of them won’t be able to stop her.”

Not a shred of a lie was present in her words.

Gibson, Urek, and Berk…bless their hearts for taking the initiative to divert attention to themselves, but in reality, the three of them can’t really stop a determined Bug Empress.

And it’s for this reason that Nick and Pat were truly anxious to make any sort of progress. They don’t want to waste their efforts.

Sadly, the origin laws don’t care about sentiments. It won’t grace them with its presence just because they had good intentions.

“Well, we’ve rested enough. I’m going back to seclusion. You?” Nick asked.

“Give me a few more days. You can go ahead, though.”

“Alright. See ya’”

“Mn.”

“The Space Marines had been doing well lately, huh?”

Cedric walked at a brisk pace, making his way back to his territory.

He just returned from scouting the edge of the Dimensional Gap near his territory to see how the frontlines were doing, and to his surprise, he saw that the Space Marines have been doing really well.

In the past, the frontlines were always besieged by bugs. Seriously, they can’t even rest properly because of how active the place is.

But recently, things have been so calm that it’s unbelievable. Cedric hasn’t seen any bugs at all.

More importantly, he could see that Space Marines have received better equipment, ones that aren’t just stronger but cooler too. Even the base had seen some incredible upgrades. And that might’ve been why things have been peaceful there lately.

“That’s good. A shame for the traps I made, though. But it’s a good problem to have.” Cedric didn’t dwell too much.

He’s happy that the frontlines were peaceful for now. That’s good news for the safety of his territory. Of course, he’s still wary that the Bug Empress could simply just ignore all of this and come straight at him, but that’s an entirely different matter.

And even if that were to happen, Cedric wasn’t too worried. He’s got the councillors on speed dial, after all.

Speaking of which…

Cedric didn’t expect them to value the cloning art so much. It seems that even he greatly underestimated its value because aside from exempting him from paying tribute entirely, the councillors personally handed him their direct communication lines, saying that if he ever needed help, he could call on them and they would come no matter what they were doing.

While this doesn’t sound like much, it’s a huge deal considering who gave this to him. These were the councillors, the Human Sovereigns, the strongest humans of them all.

This was an incredible favor to be given to him.

And all of this for that cloning art? Sounds a bit exaggerated, doesn’t it?

But, yes. It seems that he indeed underestimated the value of that thing.

None of them could blame him, though. The cloning art was something he created in his free time.

He remembers creating simply because he wanted to be freed from his paper-pushing job. He created a cloning art that could handle the paperwork while his real body took care of more important things or simply slacked off and had more free time.

This art had been created back when he was still unaware of the Primitive Universe, when all he’d known was the Primeval Scarlet Dust Realm.

It’s made under the consideration of incomplete laws. And although Cedric had long since corrected it, still, in his mind, it remains just as any other technique he made: simple but effective.

He gave it to them, thinking that maybe it could inspire them somehow or, at the very least, make their lives and responsibilities a little easier. He wasn’t expecting them to react this strongly about it.

Cedric truly has no idea that the cloning art he gave to them was practically worshipped and enshrined as a Divine Art, one that dazzled even stronger humans alive.

He didn’t even know that it’s because of him that the lives of Space Marines had become easier. He doesn’t know that he was the reason why the frontlines have calmed down.

Cedric never thought of it as a big deal at all. And whether that’s for the best or not remains to be seen.

Either way, Cedric was cool with all of this.

Others might feel bored without action for so long, but not him. Cedric would always choose the boring peace compared to chaotic danger. All he wants is to continue developing his territory to protect his people and cultivate it in peace.

’Speaking of which, it seems that Sir Nicholas and Madam Patricia aren’t in a hurry to make their breakthroughs.’

’They’re probably doing their best to elevate their concept laws to the origin level right now. And I can’t imagine that to be easy.’

Cedric had no idea how accurate his guesses were. In fact, ’difficult’ might even be a severe underestimation of what it truly was.

His eyes involuntarily landed at the star mark that appeared at the back of his palms, the same mark that allowed him to freely enter and exit the Unstable Heavenly Domain.

He then looked in the direction of the Human Council HQ, his gaze containing complex emotions.

’Sorry, but not yet.’

’I’m not confident enough to tell anybody of this just yet. I’ve got too much to lose.’
