Chapter 1460 - 1501: No Reason Not to Live
Mabel Quinn, whose eyes had been covered by Kyle Kinston all this time, suddenly yanked down her husband’s hand, staring at Francine Howards in panic. "What did you say? What do you mean, ’dealt with’? Tell me, where exactly did you hide my daughter!"
"’Dealt with’ means killed, obviously, haha!" Francine suddenly felt a kind of triumphant courage, her face twisted into a grotesque grin. "Speaking of which, your daughter’s really tough, even a bomb couldn’t kill her. So I had my parents help me finish her off. Right now she’s probably buried in some desolate field, or just thrown into a stinking ditch, and most likely her body’s already been dragged off by wild animals. Didn’t the papers say there are some barren hills near the airport? There might be beasts up in those hills, too!"
At those words, the color drained from Mabel’s face and her body swayed unsteadily. Her daughter... how could that be... Clearly when she left J City, her daughter had still been so alive, so innocent and adorable... Suddenly, a sharp pain stabbed through her abdomen. Cold sweat poured off Mabel as she instinctively clutched her stomach.
Kyle hurriedly grabbed hold of Mabel. Seeing the state she was in, he quickly scooped her up, not caring in the least that her weight pressed right into his wound, only making the blood from it gush even more.
"Mabel, how are you feeling?" Kyle rushed out of the interrogation room with Mabel in his arms.
"My stomach... it hurts so much..." Mabel muttered, her face growing even paler, even her lips turning a grayish shade. "Kyle... we have to find Ivy... we must find Ivy..."
Right after she finished speaking, Mabel seemed to reach her limit and blacked out.
Kyle quickened his pace even more.
Out in the corridor, Edward Quinn caught sight of his son-in-law, soaked in blood, carrying his daughter out, and jumped in fright. "What happened? All that blood..."
"It’s my blood," Kyle said. "But Mabel’s stomach is hurting, and on top of that she’s been badly shaken and passed out. I’m taking her to the Hospital right now."
As Kyle spoke, he strode rapidly toward the exit of the precinct.
"And what about Ivy’s whereabouts? Did that woman say anything?" Edward hurried after him, asking.
A car was waiting outside. Kyle carried Mabel into the back seat, and Edward quickly climbed into the front passenger seat.
"Ivy was most likely dumped somewhere near the airport by Francine’s parents. Based on the road surveillance where that car was spotted earlier, the place they threw Ivy out shouldn’t be more than half an hour’s drive from the airport. We have to search every one of those areas." Kyle said. To thoroughly search everything within a half-hour driving radius would require an unknown amount of manpower and resources, but for the Kinston Family and Quinn Family, it wasn’t an insurmountable task. Even if the police force wasn’t enough, they could mobilize private resources to conduct the search.
"And Ivy..." Edward’s lips trembled. After a long moment, he finally forced out the rest of the sentence. "Is she... still alive?"
Kyle’s eyes darkened. His hands clenched into tight fists, veins bulging at his temples.
The car fell silent, but Edward already understood—his granddaughter was most likely in mortal danger, maybe even already... Edward couldn’t hold back his tears. It was his fault, he hadn’t protected his granddaughter.
"No matter what, even if there’s only the tiniest shred of hope, we still have to search." After a long while, Kyle said, "She’s Mabel’s and my daughter. Back then, she survived that shipwreck. There’s no reason she wouldn’t survive this time!"
