Chapter 3958: Not That Romantic
Chapter 3958: Not That Romantic
Rean, Kentucky, and Sister Orb quickly approached the girl. "Great! Go ahead, tell us more!"
Foliana was happy to comply. "Sure!"
The story was actually quite weird. Zangeshu and Wisfreya met during one of the Academy’s missions. They didn’t take the same mission, though. Instead, the two missions, which happened to be in the same country, ended up turning into a single one.
As mentioned before, the Divine Military Exchange Program, or the Military Academy for short, is a joint adventure to help keep the peace between all the countries of the Runia Continent.
In Wisfreya’s case, she was sent to Frosgu Country to help mediate the negotiations between two big clans. Well, not exactly her, but the elder in her group, who was the leader of this mission.
Although those two clans were big in the country, in the context of the Runia Continent, they were somewhat average only. That’s why those sent to this mission were only in the Void Tempering or Space-Bending Realm. The heads of the two clans, for example, were only in the Elemental Space Realm; nothing really that remarkable.
As for the negotiations, it was due to a breach of contract regarding a mineral deposit located at the border of the two regions controlled by these two clans. Before a war between those two happened over those Divine Minerals, the Academy was required to intervene to find a middle ground.
Meanwhile, Zangeshu was also sent to the same country, but for a completely different mission. His group’s task involved dealing with some rumors around the government of Frosgu Country, the royal court. The Sondral Sect was believed to be making some moves in the shadows to try to destabilize the court of Frogus Country.
That wasn’t anything rare in the Runia Continent. As mentioned before, this continent has always been in a tense state, and the countries inside never know when a war might start for whatever reason. The academy was a tool to help prevent this kind of situation.
That’s why Wisfreya and Zangeshu’s encounter was a weird occurrence. At first, neither side was supposed to be dealing with the same problem. But it turned out that the tensions escalating between the two clans were fuelled by this same Sondral Sect.
Why? Because the Guuviu and the Netherio Clans, which were the two clans from Wisfreya’s group’s mission, were noble clans. They both held high positions in the Frogus Royal Court, especially since they contributed a significant share of the minerals acquired across the country.
Many things happened, and what was first supposed to be an attempt to prevent any conflict turned into an internal struggle that involved the Frogus Royal Family. It was highly political and dangerous.
Wisfreya and Zangeshu met when Zangeshu’s group found the link between the Sondral Sect and the tension between the two noble clans. Sure enough, that wasn’t exactly your perfect love story, if there was any story at all.
But then again, these two groups had to join forces to work on dismantling the scenario created by the Sondral Sect, which was trying to overthrow the two Noble Clans and take their place in the mineral commerce and the royal court.
"From what Wisfreya said, the Sondral Sect was truly meticulous, and that forced the two groups from the academy to stay there for several months," Foliana added. "They often came back to the Academy during that time for reports, as the missions weren’t supposed to last that long, but they spent most of the time there."
"Still, there were Roan’s orders in place. Zangeshu had to make a name for himself, and even though Wisfreya wasn’t part of that plan, she wouldn’t simply leave without completing the task given to her."
"You two already noticed how Wisfreya and Zangeshu have quite a similar personality, right? The two are cold and don’t talk much unless necessary, focusing entirely on what they have to do and not giving a damn about anything else. Basically, they are two little Roans, just not as annoying."
Rean and Kentucky nodded vigorously. There couldn’t be a better description of those two.
"Neither of them had any interest in starting a relationship with anyone. Zangeshu only cared about his side-occupations, like formations and such. As for Wisfreya, the only thing she cared about was her cultivation," Foliana continued.
"But it was precisely because of this mentality that the two slowly got close. Zangeshu and Wisfreya recognized each other’s dedication, and it attracted them in this weird way. I had to put a lot of effort into forcing this information out of Wisfreya. Ultimately, together with their groups, they uncovered the Sondral’s Sect’s plans, and the sect was heavily punished."
"Punished?" Kentucky was surprised to hear that. "I thought they would be destroyed for something like that."
"It isn’t that simple," Rean knew why. "The Sondral Sect was big enough to make two big noble clans almost go to war, so this sect was obviously just as big, if not bigger. Eliminating it would cause more trouble than the royal court of Frogus was willing to deal with. Besides, ultimately, they weren’t trying to overthrow the royal family, but take the two clans’ places."
"Exactly," Foliana confirmed. "Anyway, Wisfreya and Zangeshu’s missions ended, but the two still kept seeing each other once in a while. I have to say, their relationship was even weirder after that. They barely talked; the few times they did meet, they didn’t do anything romantic at all, and you would rather wonder if they actually had an issue with each other."
"Romantic..." Rean shook his head. "I don’t know Wisfreya very well, but I’m absolutely sure Zangeshu would never waste time with this kind of thing."
Foliana sighed. "I guess neither would Wisfreya. Anyway, so you see? Their relationship developed, but it was at a snail’s pace, taking these last fifty years to grow into something more significant. Well... I guess it only worked because they were these kinds of people."
[Boring!!!] Sister Orb couldn’t stand that story anymore. [There is nothing fun at all! What a waste of time! I’m out!] And so, she left.
"Hahaha!" Kentucky laughed in response. "That’s Sister Orb for you. Well, we all thought those two would likely never care about such things in their lives, so it is nice they found someone in the end."
Rean wasn’t as happy. "And I lost a great disciple because of that, my first one. Oh well, let’s hope things work out for them at least. Besides, I still have to go visit Wisfreya a few more times in the following years, so I can check on them."
Foliana nodded. "True. I’m also Wisfreya’s master, so I will use these next few years to prepare the foundation for her cultivation once I’m gone."
"Guess I’ll do the same for Zangeshu," Rean shrugged.
And with that, the not-so-romantic story ended.
