Chapter 93 - 90: Sinking into the Swamp

Chapter 93: Chapter 90: Sinking into the Swamp

When they reached the supplies, Wen Yan didn’t hesitate, stretching out a hand charged with his superpower.

A black, vortex-like object suddenly appeared out of thin air in front of him.

Vice General Du unleashed his superpower at the same time.

The moment he did, a square block of supplies was neatly lifted and placed onto Wen Yan’s black vortex.

But it wasn’t like her space, which could absorb everything completely.

His vortex was more like a pallet for carrying cargo, with most of the goods still exposed.

Chen Xing was speechless.

’Alright then!’

’I guess I really have been living under a rock!’

Although Chen Xing’s expression seemed casual, she was inwardly astonished.

’In her past life, she’d never seen a superpower like this.’

With their two superpowers working together, moving the supplies seemed effortless.

In less than half a minute, their items were neatly arranged, and they began to pull them toward the exit.

Chen Xing was a little dumbfounded.

’So, their superpowers look cool, but they still need to use physical strength to pull and push everything like they’re hauling cargo?’

’That’s pretty useless!’

The two men were strong, though. With a pull and a push, the virtual pallet moved, and quite quickly at that.

It wasn’t until they were out the door that Vice General Du’s voice called back to her, "Let’s go! We can’t take any more!"

Their load was already over capacity; they couldn’t get greedy now.

They would be lucky just to secure what they already had!

"Uh, okay!" Chen Xing replied slowly, but her hands were already starting to gather the remaining supplies.

’How could she stand to see all this and not take it?’

By the time she had collected everything and came out, Vice General Du and the other man had only just reached the cabin door.

However, the fire outside the cabin was raging. The chances of them getting out safely with the supplies were slim.

Just as they were nervously trying to figure out a plan, Chen Xing walked over through the smoke.

She was holding an extra-large fireproof blanket, which she tossed forward, landing it perfectly on top of the supplies. "Found this inside!"

To the two anxious men, the move was impossibly cool.

"Charge out!" Seeing that the supplies were protected, Vice General Du was no longer worried.

They had just reached the doorway when a pillar of water, like a mini-tsunami, crashed down from the sky, separating them from the flames.

The Superpower Group outside the ship obviously hadn’t been idle. Everyone with a Water Ability had joined the effort to escort the supplies and the three people.

Chen Xing, of course, swaggered out alongside Vice General Du and the other man, protected by the column of water.

’Yep! She was just a girl, too weak to even truss a chicken!’

Captain Lu and the soldiers without the Water Ability were responsible for boarding the ship to help pull the supplies.

Soon, the supplies were safely on land.

Protected by the fireproof blanket, the supplies were completely undamaged.

As for the people, every single one of them was soaked to the bone, like a drowned rat.

To be honest, Chen Xing felt quite sorry for them.

’If... they had her help, this wouldn’t have been so difficult at all.’

After all, she was someone who carried around dozens of large supermarkets’ worth of goods every day, not to mention pigs, cattle, sheep, farmland, and more...

After catching his breath, the impressive Vice General Du managed to find several vehicles just a moment later and loaded the supplies onto them.

Just as everyone thought they could head back, the faint smell of corrosion that had dissipated grew strong once more.

"More Stone Monsters are coming!" Vice General Du warned. Everyone quickly found a place to hide.

It was best to hide from these things if you could; they were just too disgusting.

A moment later, what appeared wasn’t a disgustingly huge Stone Monster, but a small one that looked cutesy and clumsy.

It was about the size of a five- or six-year-old child, its body made entirely of rock-hard stone. It even had a small, fresh yellow flower stuck in its nose.

As it hopped and skipped along, the little yellow flower trembled, looking unbelievably cute.

Everyone’s guard instantly dropped, and their eyes filled with fondness as they looked at the little Stone Monster.

That is, if the scene that followed hadn’t made their skin crawl.

As the little Stone Monster got closer, the intense smell of corrosion was so choking that no one dared to even breathe.

Just then, a white fox darted out.

Before it could even get a good look at the little Stone Monster, it was crushed flat in an instant.

Despite the little Stone Monster’s small size, when it landed on the white fox, it was as if it weighed a thousand pounds, killing it instantly.

And that cutesy, clumsy expression instantly transformed into that of a hideous, terrifying monster.

’It can’t be allowed to live!’

Just as that thought crossed everyone’s minds, the little Stone Monster took a few leaps and bounded off into the distance.

Vice General Du was the first to give chase.

If they didn’t eliminate this little thing, he feared no one who came here would meet a good end.

They had just been almost completely deceived by it!

Vice General Du followed closely behind the little Stone Monster, feeling that the stench was heavier than ever before and growing stronger as he ran.

Chen Xing, who had belatedly followed, was wearing two face masks and wished she could find a gas mask to put on.

’She had found plenty of gas masks on Wilson’s ship earlier.’

’But she couldn’t very well put one on in front of Vice General Du and the others, so she had to endure it.’

After passing between rows of houses and a patch of reeds taller than a person, they emerged into an open, marshy field.

The moment Vice General Du stepped into it, he felt something was wrong.

It was a swamp. He tried to lift the foot he had just put down, but he couldn’t.

’Careless!’

He tried a few times, but the more he struggled, the faster he sank. His entire lower leg was already submerged in the mud.

What was worse, the little Stone Monster was now hopping and skipping toward him through the swamp up ahead.

A few more leaps, and it would land right on top of him.

Vice General Du thought of the people following him; they would surely fall into the same trap.

He wanted to shout a warning, but it was already too late.

He watched as a figure flew past him.

Looking closely, he saw it was Chen Xing... She had soared far past him and landed up ahead.

Right behind her was Meng Hu, who nearly landed right in the little Stone Monster’s face.

Vice General Du reacted instantly, unleashing his superpower to stop the Stone Monster from getting closer, afraid that Meng Hu would also be crushed to death.

Farther back, Captain Lu followed close behind.

Because everyone was emerging from the cover of the reeds, they didn’t see the danger, and every person who came out fell into the trap.

Looking further ahead, the once-flat swamp was now covered in mounds—at least several hundred Stone Monsters.

They must have smelled the humans and all woken up.

"Fuck!" Even the normally unflappable Vice General Du couldn’t help but feel a wave of dread.

His body was stuck. No matter how capable he was, it was useless.

Vice General Du and Captain Lu quickly activated their superpowers to stop the monsters from approaching while they searched for a way to escape.

Seeing a few more people about to rush in, Chen Xing stopped the others from shouting.

People’s first instinct upon hearing a sound is to see what’s happening, which would inevitably lead them into the swamp.

While they were holding back the monsters, Chen Xing pulled a rope from her backpack.

But the reeds ahead of her offered no leverage.

She reached into her backpack again and, ignoring everyone’s surprise, pulled out an iron rod over half a meter long and threw it, embedding it deep within the reeds.

’She could just say it was prepared for killing zombies; that would be a plausible excuse.’

’Luckily, she wasn’t picky and liked to put anything she saw into her space. Unless it was something particularly bizarre or difficult to handle, she probably had it in there.’

She tossed the rope, wrapping it around the iron rod. With just a slight pull for leverage, she leaped out.

After landing in a safe spot, she threw her rope forward, and its first target was Meng Hu, who was closest to the monsters.
