Chapter 69: Kindred Spirits
Chapter 69: Chapter 69: Kindred Spirits
"Let’s wait a little longer!" Qiao Qiao was unusually calm.
She believed Chen Xing would definitely come back.
Besides, the people from the Migratory Clan were still some distance from the parking lot.
"Okay, let’s wait and see!" Although Sister Feng was anxious to find her son, her conscience told her this wasn’t the time to abandon people and flee.
The parking lot had been built in a central area after leveling a mountain terrace. Behind it was a small, tree-covered slope.
As the women waited anxiously, a figure suddenly emerged from the slope and grabbed Gu Xinyan’s ankle.
Fortunately, Gu Xinyan had a rather placid personality and was slow to react. She just jumped back instinctively without crying out.
The women looked closely and saw it was Wu Jiran.
Seeing them, Wu Jiran put on an ingratiating smile. "This is great! I finally found you guys!"
Then, she smiled at Qiao Qiao in the car, trying to curry favor.
Qiao Qiao didn’t give her the time of day.
Sister Feng frowned and asked, "What about the others?"
Wu Jiran’s smile froze for a moment before she quickly put it back on. "They’ve all escaped already. I was worried you hadn’t made it out, so I waited here for you!"
Qiao Qiao snorted coldly.
’What a nice way to put it!’
’But I wouldn’t believe a single word she says!’
"Now that you see we’re safe, you can go!"
Wu Jiran was speechless.
She struggled to maintain her smile. "We’ll be safer together. I told you I’ve studied Taekwondo, right? Taking down a few men is easy for me!" As she spoke, she threw a proud high kick into the air.
The kick was admittedly impressive.
Unfortunately, her little performance alerted the distant members of the Migratory Clan, who immediately charged toward them.
When Wu Jiran saw the Migratory Clan coming, she ignored everyone else and scrambled into the back seat.
But Qiao Qiao, in the driver’s seat, wasn’t about to put up with her nonsense. She lifted her feet, swiveled halfway around in her seat to face the back, and kicked Wu Jiran out of the car with her right foot. "Get out. There’s no room for you in our car." Then, she yelled to the three women anxiously waiting for Chen Xing outside, "Sister Feng, you guys get in first!"
She had scanned the area and noticed a small path leading up the mountain.
’With my driving skills, I might be able to risk it and save Chen Xing.’
"Fuck you..." Kicked out of the car, Wu Jiran dropped the act. She stood up and started cursing, "Who the hell do you think you are, kicking me?"
Confident in her Taekwondo training, she swaggered up to the driver’s side and reached for the door handle, ready to fight Qiao Qiao.
But Qiao Qiao had already locked the doors.
It wasn’t that she was afraid she couldn’t beat her; it was just unnecessary.
’Was she supposed to get into a barking match with a dog?’
The other three women used this opportunity to get into the car, locking their doors one by one.
Wu Jiran was speechless.
Hearing the CLACK of the locks, she glared at the women inside and pounded furiously on the window. "You lot! If you’ve got the guts, open the door for me...!"
’Only a fool would open it!’
None of them, not even the youngest, Yanyan, were moved.
Furious, Wu Jiran jumped up and down, hitting and kicking the car, but it was useless.
"Hey! Over here! A few people are trying to escape! I’ve stopped them for you!" ’If I can’t get in the car, then no one’s getting away! We’ll all die together!’
She planted herself in front of the car, blocking the path with her body.
A slight smirk touched Qiao Qiao’s lips. She shifted into gear, slammed on the accelerator, and the car shot forward.
Wu Jiran, who had narrowly escaped death, was speechless. A wave of fear washed over her.
If she hadn’t been agile enough to dodge aside, she would have been sent flying.
"SON OF A BITCH!" Wu Jiran screamed, chasing after the car and cursing furiously.
She had assumed the car would head down the mountain, but to her surprise, it turned around and drove up.
"A bunch of fucking idiots!" Wu Jiran felt a surge of relief that she’d been left behind. If she had been captured and taken back, it would have been far worse than just a whipping.
But the car had barely started up the mountain before it stopped, and Qiao Qiao got out.
Wu Jiran laughed triumphantly.
’Serves you right for leaving me! Now you’re in for it!’
’How lucky am I!’
’I already sold them out from a distance just now.’
She thought the Migratory Clan had stopped them.
Just as she was gloating, she saw Qiao Qiao scramble back into the car—but this time, into the back seat.
She was speechless.
Then, a slender figure ran quickly to the driver’s side. It was Chen Xing.
The car spun around and started heading back down.
Seeing that someone was trying to escape, the dozen or so members of the Migratory Clan raised their guns and started shooting.
At that moment, a massive tiger leaped out from nowhere and pounced on the men who were shooting.
In an instant, a bloody massacre ensued.
Wu Jiran’s legs trembled in fear.
The car didn’t continue down the mountain; instead, it pulled up beside Wu Jiran.
Qiao Qiao rolled down the window, a smug look on her face. "Want to get in?"
Wu Jiran nodded frantically.
The tiger had already dispatched the men from the Migratory Clan and was now charging toward them.
"In your dreams!" Qiao Qiao felt incredibly satisfied.
’That’s what you get for being so wicked! This is the fate that malicious people deserve!’
"Sis, let’s go, the tiger’s coming!" Yanyan had no time for mind games; all she knew was that a giant tiger was on a killing spree.
If it caught up to them, the few of them wouldn’t even be a mouthful for it.
Seeing that Qiao Qiao was satisfied, Chen Xing finally stepped on the gas, leaving Wu Jiran behind as she drove down the mountain.
"You can’t go! The other sisters were all captured by the Migratory Clan! I’m the only one who escaped! We all agreed to escape together, you can’t just abandon them!" Wu Jiran shouted desperately, trying to use the lives of the others to make them stay.
’Weren’t you the ones acting all high and mighty, wanting to save everyone?’
She thought bringing up the others would make them stop and go back to rescue them...
Chen Xing floored the accelerator, not stopping for a second.
Wu Jiran collapsed to the ground, watching in terror as the enormous tiger galloped toward her, leaped right over her, and continued down the mountain.
She let out a breath of relief, only to see more members of the Migratory Clan closing in on the parking lot in the distance.
She slumped to the ground, limp with despair.
’I haven’t done anything that terrible, so why is heaven treating me like this?’
Secretary Qi had been on the mountain trying to put out a fire, but the blaze was too large to be controlled. Fortunately, there were only seven or eight buildings in the vicinity, though it was a shame about the supplies.
When he saw a car getting away, he immediately gave an order over his walkie-talkie and gave chase in his own vehicle.
Inside the car, Qiao Qiao, worried Sister Feng might have a change of heart, said, "It doesn’t matter if what she said is true or false, we can’t go back!"
"They made the wrong choice from the very beginning!" Gu Xinyan pushed up her glasses and glanced at Chen Xing, who was focused on driving. "They never showed us even the most basic trust. Why should we go back and save them?"
"Right!" Although Yanyan was only sixteen, she had a very clear sense of right and wrong. "Even if we saved them, no good would come of it!"
"Don’t you worry!" Sister Feng knew the girls were concerned she’d get soft-hearted. "We’re not on the same path. There’s no point in saving them!"
In this world, it was too dangerous to befriend people with no principles, who just went whichever way the wind blew. A stab in the back from someone like that was no less deadly than an attack from an open enemy.
Chen Xing hadn’t expected that the people she rescued would be so like-minded.
Yanyan turned to stare at the tiger relentlessly chasing them from behind. She hesitated for a moment before asking, "The tiger keeps following us. Can we get away?"
’Look at its size, it’s twice as big as this car.’
Chen Xing didn’t answer. Her attention was fixed on the road ahead, as her keen intuition told her there was an ambush waiting for them.
