Chapter 145 - 142: Little Wolf Cub

Chapter 145: Chapter 142: Little Wolf Cub

A soldier guarding the door suddenly burst in. "Deputy Du, we have a problem! A pack of wolves is approaching, and they look like they’re all mutated!"

Even though visibility was poor, he could still see white figures through his sniper scope.

The figures’ eyes glowed red. It was clear they weren’t ordinary arctic wolves.

Chen Xing’s hearing was sharp; she could already hear the sound of the wolf pack’s paws approaching the housing area.

It seemed the wolf pack had already discovered them.

Vice General Du organized a group to go outside.

Chen Xing and the Three Wang Brothers stayed behind to protect Young Master Song and the soldiers who had just recovered enough to move.

The houses here were built for warmth and had no windows, only a single door that was completely sealed shut.

It was impossible to see what was happening outside.

Outside, the howls of wolves rose and fell.

The sounds of gunfire and Superpower Users attacking carried over to them continuously.

About ten minutes later, Vice General Du came in.

He was covered from head to toe in a layer of white snow.

"We’ve got something to eat tonight!"

’Wolf meat?’

’Can we even eat this stuff?’

’Aren’t they mutated?’

A Superpower User following behind Vice General Du was carrying a wolf cub.

The cub wasn’t large, only looking to be a few months old.

Judging by its eyes, it certainly didn’t look mutated.

’This thing is so small, how could it possibly be enough for so many people?’

"Let it go. I have dried noodles in my bag. Everyone can have some, at least we won’t starve." Chen Xing was never one to enjoy saving the weak.

But seeing this wolf cub, she suddenly felt a pang of pity.

Vice General Du glanced at the meat that was practically in his mouth, then at Chen Xing, and said helplessly, "Since you can’t bear to part with it, then let it go. But it’s so weak, sending it out there is just a death sentence!"

The wolf pack from earlier had been chasing this little one.

If they hadn’t intervened in time, they wouldn’t have even gotten this mouthful of meat.

Chen Xing immediately pulled several bundles of dried noodles and some seasonings from her large backpack, handed them to Vice General Du, then picked up the wolf cub and left the house.

She didn’t actually intend to release it, though.

Arctic wolves weren’t as ferocious as Meng Hu, but they could still provide significant support.

As long as she raised it well in her space, it would become another one of her little helpers.

Finding a secluded spot, she pulled the small wolf cub into her space.

The little thing had been trembling uncontrollably, but once inside the space, it acted as if it knew it had found its home. Not only did it stop shaking, but it also joyfully leaped into the spring where Meng Hu was recuperating and cozied up to the tiger as if they were old friends.

Meng Hu felt a sense of its territory being invaded and was very unfriendly toward the little cub. It even opened its mouth and let out a roar, as if to assert its dominance.

But the little wolf cub was completely unafraid. It went right up to Meng Hu and nuzzled it with its little head.

Meng Hu: "..."

’I’ve never seen anything so shameless!’

The usually majestic Meng Hu was helpless.

Wherever it went, the little thing followed, like a tiny tail that it just couldn’t shake.

Seeing they were getting along reasonably well, Chen Xing stopped worrying about them.

After exiting her space, she started walking back toward the house.

But after just a few steps, she sensed something nearby.

But when she turned around, the empty space before her looked completely deserted.

Chen Xing: "..."

’Leaving such big footprints behind... this invisibility superpower is a bit pathetic!’

Chen Xing reached into her down jacket pocket, retrieved a handful of chili powder from her space, and instantly threw it in front of her.

After a fit of violent coughing, a man slowly materialized.

Snot and tears streamed down his face.

He never imagined Chen Xing would discover him secretly tailing her, much less that she would use such a low-down dirty trick against him.

Before he could even stop the tears and snot, he felt a cold sensation on his neck.

Without asking a single question, Chen Xing eliminated him.

’He could turn invisible and was following me. He must have seen me pull the wolf cub into my space.’

She couldn’t allow her secret to be discovered.

The variety of Superpower Users was increasing. There were bound to be some superpowers that were impossible to guard against.

Today served as a wake-up call for her; she would have to be more careful in the future.

"Damn it!" Thinking of the Superpower User who had just appeared out of nowhere, Chen Xing immediately ran for the house.

Just as she reached the door, she heard the sound of vehicles speeding toward them from a distance.

"Someone’s coming!" Chen Xing shouted as she pulled open the door, then leaped up onto the roof.

Looking into the distance, she saw a large convoy of vehicles speeding toward their housing area.

It was the United States military.

From the looks of it, all one thousand-plus of them had come.

When she jumped down from the roof, Song Yiguo had already led his people out and assembled them. "It must be Kelin’s men!"

He figured that very few countries had the strength to pursue them at this point.

Baling Country was even less likely.

Their King had just died and they hadn’t even caught the killer. They wouldn’t have the mind to deal with matters over here.

Besides, Baling’s forces weren’t strong enough anyway.

Vice General Du had already sent men to take cover in various positions, ready to meet the enemy.

"Let’s not fight them," Song Yiguo suddenly decided against a direct confrontation. "Fighting them in this blizzard is a waste of our energy! If this snow doesn’t stop, we might not even be able to take off tomorrow. We’d be better off saving our strength to fight the elements! Pass down the order: retreat immediately, pull out of the housing area!"

The sound of the vehicles grew closer, but the blizzard was so severe that their speed couldn’t be very fast. With the constant skidding, driving was genuinely difficult.

Song Yiguo’s unit of over a hundred people immediately shouldered their packs.

With the exception of the wounded, the soldiers’ large packs were all filled with seeds.

They left just moments before the United States troops arrived, narrowly avoiding them.

Admiral Ouya saw the warm, glowing fire inside the house, but the room was completely empty. He angrily kicked the fire apart. "Search everywhere for me!"

He refused to believe they could have just vanished into the earth.

’We didn’t run into them on the way here, and now that we’ve chased them to this spot, they’ve just disappeared?’

’That captain clearly said he’d found their trail... that Song Yiguo was hiding in this housing area with just over a hundred people.’

He immediately asked his communications officer, "Didn’t the captain say Song Yiguo’s unit was here? Where is the captain? Did he go after them again? Hurry up and contact him!"

"Reporting, Admiral! We’ve lost contact with Captain Qi!" the communications soldier replied, his face pale with fear.

He had tried to contact the captain more than once on the way here, but ever since the captain reported that he had followed them to the housing area and had eyes on Song Yiguo’s unit, all contact had been lost.

It seemed he must have run into some kind of danger!

Just then, a soldier ran over. "Bad news, Admiral! Captain Qi has been killed!"

Two men behind him were dragging the captain’s body.

Ouya’s eyes darkened. The wind whipped at his long, tied-back hair. "Send out more men, spread out and search! Don’t stop until you find them!"

He had come on Commander Kelin’s orders to retrieve the seeds, but not only was the base empty of a single seed, it was also crawling with dead monsters and strange plants that attacked them.

If they hadn’t escaped in time, they all would have died in there.

Since everything at the base was a trap deliberately set by Song Yiguo, then Song Yiguo couldn’t blame him for being ruthless.
