Chapter 144 - 141: Mutant Wolf Pack

Chapter 144: Chapter 141: Mutant Wolf Pack

A rhythmic CLANG CLANG sound rang out, growing closer and closer.

Everyone’s faces turned ashen, a sickly green.

Finally, the CLANGING sound seemed to be right in front of them.

Just then, a long-haired monster the size of three men leaped into view.

The monster paid no mind to its own kind, its massive body crushing one or two of the smaller long-haired monsters every time it landed from a jump.

Spotting its prey, the hulking monster roared and leaped again, descending upon the group.

It flung sticky saliva from its mouth, splattering the faces of the people below.

Chen Xing was already on guard. After dodging, she raised her gun and fired several shots at the behemoth.

The bullets hit the monster’s body as if they were just scratching an itch. It only earned an annoyed glare from the creature, causing it no real harm.

Moreover, the long hair on its body stood on end as it bounded and rolled forward, impaling several Superpower Users.

The Superpower Users went numb instantly and collapsed, unable to get up.

If not for the other Superpower Users quickly pulling their comrades back, they would have been mauled by the other monsters, and not even a god could have saved them.

Chen Xing and Song Yiguo charged the monster at almost the same time.

The two of them drew the monster’s attention, allowing the others to retreat quickly.

The monster was immensely strong and huge; even its slightest movement could injure several people.

They couldn’t kill it, and they couldn’t escape.

They were instantly trapped in a desperate situation.

"Does anyone have a bomb?" Song Yiguo asked, his agility allowing him to dodge just before the behemoth could crush him each time.

Everyone was silent. They all had superpowers and had assumed this mission wouldn’t be too difficult, so all the heavy firepower they had prepared was sent back to the Capital City with the supplies.

"I do!" Chen Xing reached into her backpack and pulled out a grenade. "I brought it just in case!"

Song Yiguo didn’t have time to think. He gathered his power and instantly grew from his height of over six feet to nearly ten feet tall.

As his clothes ripped apart, he looked like a giant. Fortunately, the scraps of cloth covering his vital areas remained intact.

He still wasn’t as big as the monster, but he was now a behemoth in his own right.

After transforming, he no longer dodged the hulking creature. Instead, he met it head-on, aiming straight for its mouth.

With a powerful heave of his arms, he wrenched the monster’s massive jaws open.

"Quick, the bomb!"

Chen Xing was speechless.

’Forget it.’

’What a stupid idea. I can’t believe he actually thought of it!’

She leaped up and threw, landing the grenade squarely in the behemoth’s mouth.

At this point, the behemoth flew into a panic.

It tried to struggle free from Song Yiguo’s grip on its jaws, but it couldn’t break loose.

Song Yiguo, meanwhile, shoved forward with all his might, forcibly pushing the monster toward an empty area.

With a muffled THUD,

Song Yiguo slammed the monster against a wall, and the grenade detonated inside its body.

But... while the blast killed the behemoth,

Song Yiguo stumbled and collapsed, his body rapidly shrinking back to its normal size.

A look at his hands revealed they were covered in countless small puncture wounds from the monster’s quills.

With the behemoth dead, the smaller long-haired monsters, which had been hiding off to the side, seemed to regain their courage and began attacking again.

Fortunately, there weren’t many of them, and Vice General Du led his men to quickly clear a path.

Wang San hoisted Song Yiguo onto his shoulders, while several other Superpower Users worked together to carry their paralyzed comrades, and they all charged for the exit.

Chen Xing stayed behind, searching for thick winter coats.

It was a frozen, snowy landscape outside.

These people were too lightly dressed, and with some of them unable to move, they could easily freeze to death.

This simple, on-the-fly action not only saved Song Yiguo and the other paralyzed Superpower Users, but it also ended up bringing her a considerable income.

By the time they made it out of the seed vault, it was completely dark.

The snow that had been falling all day showed no signs of stopping, and with the howling wind, the temperature was dropping rapidly.

Chen Xing distributed the winter coats to Song Yiguo and the injured Superpower Users.

Although their lives were saved for the moment, they now faced an even more severe problem... no vehicles!

The cars they had parked outside the vault were gone, and the few that remained were wrecked.

Inside these wrecked vehicles, they could even see crushed human bodies.

"In this weather, we won’t be able to fly even if we make it to the airport!" Vice General Du said, glancing at the motionless Song Yiguo. "Didn’t we see a few houses on the way here? Why don’t we rest there for the night?"

He had no desire to go back inside the vault.

It was cold, not to mention dangerous.

People from other countries trying to seize the vault might still be on their way.

And so, the entire team, carrying their wounded, trudged through the blizzard toward the nearest houses.

They couldn’t let their guard down.

The vault’s main gate had been opened many times, so some of the long-haired monsters had surely escaped.

Just as they were pressing forward, the sound of a vehicle convoy came from up ahead.

Chen Xing warned everyone to hide. Soon after, military vehicles bearing the flag of the United States drove past, one after another.

A rough estimate put their numbers at a thousand strong, at the very least.

And that wasn’t even counting the people inside the transport trucks.

Although this American contingent was heading toward an empty seed vault, they would still be safe as long as they didn’t open the botany section inside.

’They’re just too lucky!’

Only after the entire convoy had passed did the group continue on their way.

"That sounded like a big convoy. It’s most likely Kelin’s people!" Vice General Du remarked astutely.

With Baya dead, Baling Country couldn’t possibly spare any attention for the seed vault.

The other countries hadn’t brought many people; only the United States had the capacity for such a force.

Chen Xing didn’t say anything. Spotting a row of houses, she guided the group to hurry toward them.

The houses were like iceboxes inside, seemingly uninhabited for a long time.

Fortunately, there was still some firewood inside that they could use to start a fire.

Not long after lighting the fire, the indoor temperature began to rise.

But Song Yiguo and the others showed no signs of recovering.

Chen Xing had no choice but to take out some spring water from her space and pour a little into each person’s mouth.

A few minutes later, they started to move, one by one.

Vice General Du could finally breathe a sigh of relief. "Young Master Song, how do you feel?"

"I’m fine!" Although he had been unable to move, Song Yiguo had been aware of what was happening. "Thank you, Chen Xing!"

If Chen Xing hadn’t found those winter coats, he wasn’t sure if he’d still be alive.

Chen Xing nodded.

’Good, as long as he remembers,’ she thought. ’He’s not a stingy person.’

"The blizzard outside is getting worse. We’ll have to stay here tonight," Vice General Du said, briefing Song Yiguo on the situation.

Song Yiguo nodded, a menacing glint deepening in his eyes.

He had risked revealing his superpower just now and had nearly lost his life. ’I’ll have to be more careful from now on,’ he thought.

"AWOOOO..." A sudden wolf’s howl made everyone in the house freeze.

Everyone knew that wolves were pack animals.

Ordinary wolves would be fine; as Superpower Users, they could deal with them easily.

But if they were facing a pack of mutated wolves, it would be another vicious battle.
