Aspiring to the Immortal Path

Chapter 1167: Eight Ocean Mountains

The Primordial Fog Calamity!

This was a term that could make any cultivator of the positive plane pale.

The world had a positive side and negative side. The chiliocosm was the positive side and the Primordial Fog was the negative side.

The Primordial Fog Calamity represented an invasion from the negative plane, an invasion of the demons that lived there!

Nobody could ignore the threat presented by the Primordial Fog Calamity, because across the eons, the positive plane had never defeated the Primordial Fog Domain. The Primordial Fog’s demons seemed to be endless, their numbers vast and their strength formidable.

Only one thing could defeat them: the cycle of the Heavenly Dao.

In the cycle of the Heavenly Dao, the passage to the Primordial Fog opened once every three thousand years, remaining open for one hundred years before closing. The day the passage closed was the time the Primordial Fog demons retreated.

The Myriad Heavens Stellar Divine Net that Yu Cheng had laid down was based on this law, making the passage smaller and open for less time. But the one guiding it all was still the law of the Heavenly Dao.

For this reason, the advent of every Primordial Fog Calamity had every cultivator of the positive plane doing their best to defend against it.

While the Rosecloud Domain had been growing stronger over the years, this strength was only in terms of the positive plane. For the Primordial Fog Domain, the stronger the domain, the more likely it was to be attacked by hordes of demons. One could say that the Heavenly Dao was extremely fair in this aspect.

Only twenty years remained until the Primordial Fog Calamity, and as the highest existence of the Rosecloud Domain, Tang Jie could not stand idle. In truth, the Basking Moon Sect had started preparing more than a hundred years ago, even slowing its progress on the path of the stars. Moreover, not too long ago, Tang Jie had received a message from Yun Tianlan telling him that everything was ready for his return.

Tang Xuanyu’s advancement naturally seemed minor in comparison to such affairs.

Xu Miaoran immediately dropped her request for Tang Jie to go, softly saying, “It seems that the peaceful days are finally coming to an end. I just wonder how many people are going to survive the calamity.”

Each Primordial Fog Calamity was a great purge, producing rivers of blood and mountains of corpses.

Tang Jie indifferently said, “The Primordial Fog Calamity is both a crisis and an opportunity. Relax. I’ve already made plans with the ancestor. We’ll definitely use this calamity to bring about the endless glory of the Rosecloud Domain, creating an infinite path into the future.”

“That would be for the best,” Xu Miaoran said, looking at her husband with eyes full of trust.

This was perhaps Xu Miaoran’s best attribute. No matter what, she believed in her husband.

Three days later, the Zephyr Mountains.

These mountains had greatly changed.

After consuming so much earth, the Zephyr Mountains were larger and taller than before. The title of “tallest mountain” now belonged to Moon Prayer Peak. This mountain jutted into the clouds, almost reaching the Astral Winds. From the summit of Moon Prayer Peak, one could see the Astral Winds howling overhead, with an occasional gust blowing down to obliterate all things. For this reason, the summit was completely bald, home to only a stone platform that was as smooth as a mirror.

For those cultivators who had reached Soul Projection or Immortal Platform, these Astral Winds were no obstacle, but an aid in their cultivation.

Today, Xi Canhen was seated on that stone platform.

The Astral Winds spiraled around him in a lethal vortex, covering the entire stone platform, leaving only the ground three feet in front of him clear and calm.

In front of him burned a candle with an extremely thin wick. This meant that it could be easily extinguished, even by a small puff. Yet this candle in front of Xi Canhen still burned despite the Astral Winds.

This wasn’t simple isolation. After all, there needed to be oxygen for the candle to burn, which meant that one had to leave a small opening for oxygen while also keeping out the Astral Winds. And as the Astral Winds were everchanging, one had to constantly adjust the opening, which required a masterful control of one’s energy. This was an exercise in training energy control.

A gust of Astral Wind blew over.

The sliver of a flame flickered slightly, almost imperceptibly, but it felt like an earthquake to Xi Canhen. Fortunately, he reacted swiftly and was able to prevent the candle from going out, though his heart did start beating a little faster as a result, its thumping clear amidst the howling winds.

“Not bad,” a voice said.

Xi Canhen’s heart thumped again, and he lost control over his spiritual energy, causing the candle to go out.

Ignoring this, Xi Canhen turned around to see Tang Jie standing there.

“Master!” Xi Canhen jumped up in joy.

Without the isolation barrier, the Astral Winds over the stone platform went wild, buffeting Xi Canhen. He ignored them and deeply bowed to Tang Jie. “The disciple greets Master. Master, you’ve finally returned. Did everything go well in your one hundred years of ascetic cultivation?”

“It all went very well.” Tang Jie smiled. “It seems that your ascension to Immortal Platform is not far off. I just don’t know if it will be in time for the Primordial Fog Calamity.”

Hearing this, Xi Canhen hesitated a moment before asking, “Master, is the Primordial Fog Calamity really that scary?”

Tang Jie laughed. “You ask me, but how could I answer you? After all, this is my first time experiencing it too.”

Only then did Xi Canhen remember that Tang Jie was like him, having only cultivated for around 1200 years. While he called him Master, Tang Jie had been a cultivator for only ten-some years longer than him, so they were still essentially of the same generation. But this person of the same generation had surpassed everyone else, earning Xi Canhen’s respect and admiration.

After chatting for a while, Tang Jie headed to Cloud Splendor Palace to see Yun Tianlan.

Cloud Splendor Palace was an Immortal palace that the Basking Moon Sect had gone to great expense to build after the reunification of the Rosecloud Domain. To build this supreme divine treasure, the Basking Moon Sect had even requested the help of Fairy Gu Ye and Ji Wenzhang. Though the palace was complete, it was still only lightly infused with the Great Dao, Dao Runes flying here and there as Yun Tianlan and several other Immortals branded their Daos into the palace to turn it into a Dao armament.

The goal upon completion was that this palace would be able to hold millions and wander the void, going wherever it wanted. More importantly, it could merge with the Mountain River State Diagram.

It existed to serve as the Rosecloud Domain’s space ark, to be used in case of defeat.

It might never be used, but so long as it was there, the Rosecloud Domain would never perish.

Upon arriving at Cloud Splendor Palace, he saw three solar-like radiances within: Yun Tianlan, Fairy Gu Ye, and Ji Wenzhang.

Tang Jie went up and bowed to the three. “Tang Jie pays respects to Martial Ancestor, Fairy Gu Ye, and Senior Ji.”

Yun Tianlan smiled. “You’ve finally returned. The resources for the Eight Ocean Mountains have been prepared. We just need you to do the job.”

The Eight Ocean Mountains was a formation, a super-formation that could protect the entire Rosecloud Domain.

It had this name because the formation required a massive amount of resources comparable to eight mountains, enough to fill an ocean. It had to be understood that these were all rare resources, not soil and dirt, yet it was being measured in mountains and oceans.

No ordinary person could pay for such an expensive formation, and only by mustering the entirety of the Rosecloud Domain’s strength could all of them be gathered. Even then, it was only possible because they had plundered ten-some other worlds of their resources and had production from countless paradises and blessed lands.

When Yun Tianlan and Tang Jie had been discussing a formation that could protect the entire domain, Tang Jie had suggested seven top-class Immortal formations, with the Eight Ocean Mountains being the most expensive and strongest. In terms of power, it was many times stronger than the Nine Executions Immortal Formation protecting the Martial Lord’s hidden realm. Of course, the Nine Executions Immortal Formation had only been protecting a single hidden realm while the Eight Ocean Mountains was meant to protect the entire Rosecloud Domain. The two had different burdens and achieved their purposes in different ways, so one could not compare them in such a simple way.

Tang Jie had found this formation in the Five Origins Estate, but even Reverend Five Origins hadn’t been wealthy enough to lay down this formation—one of his lifelong regrets.

And Yun Tianlan had chosen this super-formation.

This wasn’t merely because of how powerful it was, but because it also had a very special function…

Now, they had gathered all the resources needed for the Eight Ocean Mountains, so it was time for it to be brought into being.

Tang Jie replied, “Ancestor, be at ease. Tang Jie will put his all into laying down this formation.”

Yun Tianlan nodded. “I have always trusted in you. I leave the future of Rosecloud to you!”

The Immortal Domain, the Court of Myriad Domains.

Yu Cheng sat on his nine-dragon jade throne, listening to the reports from the Immortals below.

“The New Heavenly Army has completed its organization and has already descended to the Star Sea to cultivate.”

“Eleven of the twelve Immortal formations are complete. Only the All-Immortal Slaying Formation is still under construction. It still needs at least ten years to complete, which should be before the Primordial Fog Calamity.”

“The protective formation of the Merak Domain has fallen, but as Your Majesty decreed, we have only surrounded it and not attacked. Once the Primordial Fog Calamity arrives, the scoundrels of the Stellar Net Gate and Heaven’s Equal Sect will be our vanguard against the demons.”

“The Thirty-Three Heavens have already sealed off their domains and focused entirely on defense. During the calamity, it will be impossible for them to go on the offensive…”

The reports came in one after the other, and after hearing the final report, Yu Cheng finally cracked a smile.

He muttered, “Everyone will have to look out for themselves when the calamity comes, and the Heavenly Dao’s subordinates will have their hands full. Let’s see those pesky flies try and stop me now! The Primordial Fog Calamity is an opportunity for me to surpass the Heavenly Dao! A calamity for others is exactly the moment I’ve been waiting for!”

He profoundly said, “Let this day come a little faster!”

Rumble!

There was a peal of thunder in the heavens, announcing the coming storm!
